Many of you know (NOW!) that ATA airlines has just declared bankruptcy. For the few that did not know this (myself included), you are now amongst many that have fallen into a pool of ATA customers rushing and requesting a refund. I wish you the best of luck! The fact that the airline blames a loss of a government contract for their chapter 11, has no right to put many people's long planning and budget into a state of crisis. There was no warning on the bankruptcy to their customers; nor was there any prevention to disallow anyone from purchasing a plane ticket on which they knew was going to be cancelled.
I say, there should be a law on airline companies declaring bankruptcy. A law to prevent ticket sales weeks/months prior to the report of bankruptcy. Otherwise, you would be hundreds, if not, thousands of dollars out of luck and with a lost for words on how to tell your wife and child/children there would be no vacation this year.
