Another Hero is Dead

As others rushed out, he rushed in.

Moments later, he was dead.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department lost one of it's own last night when Firefighter Brent A. Lovrien died in the line of duty.

 

The 35 year old was a 10 year veteran of the LAFD, assigned to the 'A' Platoon at Fire Station 95 since October 2005.

Lovrien, and his fellow firefighters, had been responding to an explosion in a shopping center near LAX when he was killed in a subsequent blast.

In that same explosion, Engineer Anthony J. Guzman suffered multiple fractures and facial trauma. He remains hospitalized in serious condition following surgery.

Details are still sketchy about exactly what happened but there is one thing we know for sure: another hero is dead.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Firefighter Lovrien's family, friends and the LAFD.

And to Firefighter Guzman, our wishes for a speedy recovery.

Brent... You're definitely a hero! May your soul rest easy "Bro". You will definitely be missed. Glen, Sherri and Shenan… From the Knott family, your friends and neighbors, we express our deepest, heartfelt condolences at this time of bereavement.

Another Hero. I am always very sad to hear those words and I just hope that the Family get all the Prayers, Love and Support they will need to get past the horrible sadness and emptiness they have. I hope that the friends and neighbors continue to support them past these next few months when the silence comes. Sometimes people do not know what to do or say when the Funeral is over and trust me just be there just sit and listen or just sit in the quiet with the loved ones they will need it.
Prayers and thoughts go out to the injured Hero to him and his Family.
We owe so many men and women who put their life on the line for us daily here at Home and at War and it is to bad that it is forgotten so much of the time.

Gigi,

I certainly feel for this fireman's family, and the crew who handled the tragic call that took his life. You can count me in with the other well wishers. I happen to know a fire captain at the Monterey Park Fire Department, so if I see him this weekend, I'll try to find out how this affected others in the community as well.
