Obama on Ayers:

 'I assumed that he had been rehabilitated' In an interview with the sympathetic conservative talk radio host this afternoon, Obama offered the clearest explanation yet of how an extremely careful politician allowed himself anywhere near a former '60s radical who would become a Republican target in this year's presidential campaign.

 Obama "had assumed" from Bill Ayers' stature in Chicago, he told the Philadelphia-based Michael Smerconish, that Ayers had been "rehabilitated" since his 1960s crimes.

In the interview, which was taped this afternoon and will air tomorrow, and which you can listen to above, Obama recalled moving back to Chicago after law school, and becoming involved in civic life there.

"The gentleman in question, Bill Ayers, is a college professor, teaches education at the University of Illinois," he said. "That's how i met him -- working on a school reform project that was funded by an ambassador and very close friend of Ronald Reagan's" along with "a bunch of conservative businessmen and civic leaders."

 "Ultimately, I ended up learning about the fact that he had engaged in this reprehensible act 40 years ago, but I was eight years old at the time and I assumed that he had been rehabilitated," Obama said.

That may not have been an unreasonable assumption for Obama in the 1990s. Though Ayers never repented his part in the Weather Underground bombings, he had not yet become notorious for advertising them. That notoriety returned in 2001, when he published his memoir, "Fugitive Days," and reminisced about the bombings in a New York Times interview that happened to appear September 11 of that year.

 "This guy is not part of my inner circle, he doesn't advise my campaign, he's not going to advise me as president," Obama assured listeners.

Obama also lashed McCain for focusing on Ayers on a day of dramatic economic turmoil, calling th issue a "red herring."

 "The fact that Senator McCain wants to make this the centerpiece of his campaign is pretty remarkable," he said. "We are going through an enormous challenge right now. "

 "Senator McCain surely doesn't believe that I've endorsed any of the actions that [Ayers] has taken," he said. "They're trying to distract from the economy."

"We've got the biggest economic crisis on our hands since the Great Depression and Senator McCain's team has said in the newspapers, they've said it publicly, 'If we talk about the economy, then we lose the election,'" Obama said.

What do you think?  Do you believe this should be an issue?  Associations with Ayers, and others of questionable character should have been thoroughly investigated or not!

1. What precisely was the nature of Senator Obama’s relationship with convicted real estate developer Tony Resko? Why did he engage in a real estate deal with Rezko when he was under federal investigation? What “advice” did he give Obama about buying a house in Chicago?

2. Why has Obama proclaimed that he has been fighting alongside ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), a group reviled by conservatives for its support of liberal ideals and alleged corruption. , a radical leftwing organization, his “entire career”?

3. What exactly has been Obama’s experience with ACORN?

4. What was the nature of the “training” Obama provided to ACORN activists in Chicago?

5. What exactly occurred during the “actions” that Obama organized as a community organizer? Did the “actions” involve intimidation by any of the participants Obama led?

6. Why did ACORN activists humiliate bankers into giving bad loans after Obama trained them?

7. Why did Obama seek ACORN’s endorsement in his state senate race?

8. What, if any, support did ACORN provide Obama in his 2004 Senate race?

9. Why was Obama silent on the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform package in 2005?

10. Why did Obama say that sub-prime lending was a “good thing”?

11. Why did Obama support $500 million a year going to ACORN-like organizations in the housing bailout this past summer?

12. Why did the Woods Fund and the Joyce Foundation direct millions to organizations such as ACORN while Obama was serving on the board of those foundations?

13. Why did Madeleine Talbot, one time fiery leader of Chicago ACORN, invite Obama to help train their organizers in the 1990s?

14. Why did Obama attend a fundraiser at George Soros’s home during his 2004 campaign?

15. Why didn’t Obama return campaign contributions from George Soros?

16. Why did Obama vote to raise taxes on people making as little as $42,000 per year?

17. Has Senator Obama or his campaign coordinated with St. Louis law enforcement authorities who are threatening criminal libel charges against critics of Obama who make statements that are found to by law enforcement officials to be “false”?

18. Are the Obama campaign’s “internet action alerts” directing supporters to overwhelm call-in radio show that are critical of Obama consistent with the fair and open campaign the Senator has pledged to run?

19. When did Senator Obama first meet domestic terrorist William Ayers? Did Obama know Ayres as a student at Columbia in the early 1980s?

Now that Sen. John McCain has pulled out of Michigan by doing a Rudy Giuliani routine and blew any chance of winning the Presidential election in November it's time to have a discussion on America's first Black President.

 

Now let me make myself very clear. I have no intention of voting for Sen. Barack Obama/Sen. Joe Biden in November. As a Christian, I refuse to support any Presidential candidate who supports abortion, feels comfortable with civil unions and have a liberal approach to foreign policy. Also, I will not vote for him because he is Black. While history will be made in November I am looking beyond the skin color.

 

What my biggest fear about an Obama presidency is the fact that Black people, who have been traditionally conservative on social and some economic issues, will begin to lean further to the left. The Obama machine are out here registering new young voters who have values that are completely unbiblical. These young people, some first time voters, will soon begin to run for office themselves to help shape public policy.

 

Do we want the new Black America shaping public policy to diminish marriage between men and women in our community because our men are on the down low and women are following behind? What about our young Black legislators now who are following Obama who want to pour more money into failing school districts in places like Detroit or Benton Harbor but refuse to support educational options such as charter schools or homeschooling?

 

I am not confident in the new Black America under an Obama Administration because look at the conditions of Black America right now. Obama is preaching the same failed polices that has ravaged Black America. Now, we are going to have a liberal President, who happens to be Black, coming into the White House with the same failed polices that did not help him as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago. Do we want America looking like the South Side of Chicago?

 

The new Black America will embrace Obama's Black Theology of anger, confusion and misconception as well as his call for teaching "age appropriate" sex education for 5 year olds.

 

Now many people will say that I am just concentrating on the negative aspects of an Obama Administration. Actually, I am just observing of what has happened in the inner city that are ran by Democrats. For example, in Michigan every single urban area I have visited where Democrats run the city looks like a third world country. The people are poor, angry, pissed off, and use Jesus Christ as a credit card (in other words use the Lord when things are tight).

 

Presently, I have no faith in Black people running anything. We want to support Black owned businesses but we cannot even open our business on time. We open late and close early. We fail our children's education and blame it on the lack of money. We are afraid of our own children. What's worse is when we discipline our children they can call DHS and the social workers can call the shots. We have far too much government in our homes. Blacks are confused about politics. We complain about government being in our homes but support Obama who wants MORE government in our homes.

 

We cry about the need for Black men to be in education then cut them out in the name of "budget cuts." While Black liberals turn out the vote for Obama these same people fall silent when adult bars flood 8 Mile Road, Chaldeans disrespect our women at the corner stores or gas stations, and are quiet on developing Black men and women who are marriageable, ready to settle down and build a legacy.

 

So while the Obama Administration is pushing liberalism down our throats I feel this is a good time for serious, committed Christian Black people who want to develop a sense of personal responsibility to begin a REAL movement for change.

 

There is HOPE.

 

Spiritual hope begins with us. Our people cannot continue to accept Jesus Christ as our personal savior and then put him on the shelf because Oprah has endorse a candidate from Harvard. We need to hold fast to our core values not make excuses because a Black man is running for President. Think about it. Would these same Black people who are coming out in droves vote for a Black man like Michael Steele if he was running for President?

 

Conservatives of all races should join together, pray together, eat together and denounce any forms of detriment that has penetrated our community. Once upon a time Black people in the inner cities could leave their door unlocked, opened and go to bed without the fear of someone coming into your home. Those days are long gone.

 

There was a time when you acted a fool on the block the neighbor whupped your ass then your parents got home both parents whupped your ass. Now the children call DHS and the parents are in trouble.

 

There was a time when you acted an ass in school you got paddled. Now, the government calls it corporal punishment.

 

My point is this. The Black community did not have fear of our children because we instilled the fear of God in our children. Our children were raised on values and clearly understood that if anything was in error there were consequences. Now, there are no consequences and we are afraid of our children. Our children cuss out the teacher, fight the teachers, and in many cases kill the teachers. There was a time when Black children would stand up when the teacher entered the classroom. Now school is a "boring" place for both the teacher and student.

 

There was a time when Black men were men in the home and took care of the family regardless of income, regardless of obstacles that stood in his way. Now, our men are at home playing Playstation, XBOX 360 and hanging out while our women are going to school, getting advanced degrees, and taking care of her home, her career and her children. Where is the balance?

 

When poverty programs entered the Black community back in the late 60s it was the end of our families. Now two generations later we still have not learned how these same liberal policies have not benefited us. The scary thing about this is how so many young people are so far removed from the traditional values that has kept our community intact. These young adults who are voting for Obama range from college educated to dropout, do not have a grasp on the history of Black America and how we became Democrats, second to third generation welfare families, gay, lesbian or transgender, angry, depressed or just hate Republicans because the media hates Republicans.

 

Do we want government to continue to take care of us for another generation? With an Obama Administration and the ushering in of a new form of liberalism like we have never seen I feel that the New Black America will still reside on the plantation. Where do conservatives fit into the grand scheme of things? What about traditional values that will be thrown out the window with an Obama Administration? This is the same Obama that has never led a city, state, county or village before. He has never led a people in crisis. He has never administered a budget. He has never been in the military, never led in a war, never been a commander in chief or even a Private First Class. He has been in the U.S. Senate for 143 days and thanks to the media, he will be the next Commander in Chief because the liberal news media need the ratings to keep sponsors pouring in the money.

 

How many young adults who are going to turn out the vote in November for Obama even realize how he even became a U.S. Senator to begin with? The Republican opponent, who was leading in the polls, was forced to leave race after unsealing of divorce records exposed a sex scandal. Obama defeated Alan Keys in the general election to win the U.S. Senate race in 2004. If his opponent would have still been in that race Obama would not even be running for President.

 

How many young people know that Obama's brother in lives in a hut in Nairobi on $12 per year? Obama is a multi-millionaire from his book sales. Sounds like another John Kerry.

 

And while the New Black America clowns Sarah Palin as being a country "hick" how many Black people knew Sarah Palin's passed a landmark ethics reform bill, used veto to cut budgetary pending and prevented the "bridge to nowhere" that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars while Obama as an Illinois State Senator voted "present" over 100 times.

 

And while Sara Palin exposed legal violations and conflicts of interest of Alaska Republican leaders and campaigned against a corrupt GOP Representative Obama launched his political career in home of unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers and purchased a home with the help of convicted felon Tony Rezko.

 

And while Sarah Palin gave birth to her 5th child with Down Syndrome Obama was the only IL State Senator to speak against the Born Alive Infant's Protection Act, which required medical care to be given to live infants who survived abortions.

 

And while Obama talks about the environment alot Sarah Palin was the Chair of Alaska Conservation Commission back in 2003-2004. She also announced plans to create sub-cabinet group of advisors to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Alaska.

 

And while Sarah Palin supports the 2nd Amendment (the right to bear arms) Obama worked to pass legislation in Illinois that would prevent all law-abiding citizens from owning firearms.

 

And while Sarah Palin actually have some executive experience (Mayor of Wasilla, AK and Governor of Alaska) like I said earlier, Obama has never led a city, state, county or village.

 

And while Sarah Palin's husband Todd Quit 17-year BP oil job when BP became involved in natural gas pipeline negotiations with wife's administration Obama's wife Michelle was promoted and given 160% pay raise by University of Chicago hospitals within months of husband's election to U.S. Senate as well as U of C's $1,000,000.00 federal earmark, requested by her husband, after her promotion.

 

I am scared to see a Black liberal run our country because it will be ran in the ground just like the South Side of Chicago, Detroit, Philly, or other inner city hellhoes that are ran by liberals. If Obama is giving earmarks to his wife's employer that alone is a conflict of interest. What next John Edwards as our Attorney General? That may happen also. The Fall of America will not happen under the White man watch but the very person that looks like us.

 

But as usual, young adults do not care about that. They are emotional and not logical. And this is the reason why the Bible is fulfilling prophecy day by day. I just pray that we can make it for the next four years as conservatives.

Why Martin Luther King Was Republican

It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.

During the civil rights era of the 1960s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court, which resulted in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman's issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

Democrat President John F. Kennedy is lauded as a proponent of civil rights. However, Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act while he was a senator, as did Democrat Sen. Al Gore Sr. And after he became President, Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph, who was a black Republican. President Kennedy, through his brother Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist in order to undermine Dr. King.

In March of 1968, while referring to Dr. King's leaving Memphis, Tenn., after riots broke out where a teenager was killed, Democrat Sen. Robert Byrd (W.Va.), a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, called Dr. King a "trouble-maker" who starts trouble, but runs like a coward after trouble is ignited. A few weeks later, Dr. King returned to Memphis and was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

Given the circumstances of that era, it is understandable why Dr. King was a Republican. It was the Republicans who fought to free blacks from slavery and amended the Constitution to grant blacks freedom (13th Amendment), citizenship (14th Amendment) and the right to vote (15th Amendment). Republicans passed the civil rights laws of the 1860s, including the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and the Reconstruction Act of 1867 that was designed to establish a new government system in the Democrat-controlled South, one that was fair to blacks. Republicans also started the NAACP and affirmative action with Republican President Richard Nixon's 1969 Philadelphia Plan (crafted by black Republican Art Fletcher) that set the nation's fist goals and timetables. Although affirmative action now has been turned by the Democrats into an unfair quota system, affirmative action was begun by Nixon to counter the harm caused to blacks when Democrat President Woodrow Wilson in 1912 kicked all of the blacks out of federal government jobs.

Few black Americans know that it was Republicans who founded the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Unknown also is the fact that Republican Sen. Everett Dirksen from Illinois was key to the passage of civil rights legislation in 1957, 1960, 1964 and 1965. Not mentioned in recent media stories about extension of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is the fact that Dirksen wrote the language for the bill. Dirksen also crafted the language for the Civil Rights Act of 1968 which prohibited discrimination in housing. President Lyndon Johnson could not have achieved passage of civil rights legislation without the support of Republicans.

Critics of Republican Sen. Barry Goldwater, who ran for President against Johnson in 1964, ignore the fact that Goldwater wanted to force the Democrats in the South to stop passing discriminatory laws and thus end the need to continuously enact federal civil rights legislation.

Those who wrongly criticize Goldwater also ignore the fact that Johnson, in his 4,500 State of the Union Address delivered on Jan. 4, 1965, mentioned scores of topics for federal action, but only 35 words were devoted to civil rights. He did not mention one word about voting rights. Then in 1967, showing his anger with Dr. King's protest against the Vietnam War, Johnson referred to Dr. King as "that BLEEP preacher."

Contrary to the false assertions by Democrats, the racist "Dixiecrats" did not all migrate to the Republican Party. "Dixiecrats" declared that they would rather vote for a "yellow dog" than vote for a Republican because the Republican Party was know as the party for blacks. Today, some of those "Dixiecrats" continue their political careers as Democrats, including Robert Byrd, who is well known for having been a "Keagle" in the Ku Klux Klan.

Another former "Dixiecrat" is former Democrat Sen. Ernest Hollings, who put up the Confederate flag over the state Capitol when he was the governor of South Carolina. There was no public outcry when Democrat Sen. Christopher Dodd praised Byrd as someone who would have been "a great senator for any moment," including the Civil War. Yet Democrats denounced then-Senate GOP leader Trent Lott for his remarks about Sen. Strom Thurmond (R.-S.C.). Thurmond was never in the Ku Klux Klan and defended blacks against lynching and the discriminatory poll taxes imposed on blacks by Democrats. If Byrd and Thurmond were alive during the Civil War, and Byrd had his way, Thurmond would have been lynched.

The 30-year odyssey of the South switching to the Republican Party began in the 1970s with President Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy," which was an effort on the part of Nixon to get Christians in the South to stop voting for Democrats who did not share their values and were still discriminating against their fellow Christians who happened to be black. Georgia did not switch until 2002, and some Southern states, including Louisiana, are still controlled by Democrats.

Today, Democrats, in pursuit of their socialist agenda, are fighting to keep blacks poor, angry and voting for Democrats. Examples of how egregiously Democrats act to keep blacks in poverty are numerous.

After wrongly convincing black Americans that a minimum wage increase was a good thing, the Democrats on August 3 kept their promise and killed the minimum wage bill passed by House Republicans on July 29. The blockage of the minimum wage bill was the second time in as many years that Democrats stuck a legislative finger in the eye of black Americans. Senate Democrats on April 1, 2004, blocked passage of a bill to renew the 1996 welfare reform law that was pushed by Republicans and vetoed twice by President Clinton before he finally signed it. Since the welfare reform law expired in September 2002, Congress had passed six extensions, and the latest expired on June 30, 2004. Opposed by the Democrats are school choice opportunity scholarships that would help black children get out of failing schools and Social Security reform, even though blacks on average lose $10,000 in the current system because of a shorter life expectancy than whites (72.2 years for blacks vs. 77.5 years for whites).

Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 30 to 40 years, and blacks are still complaining about the same problems. More than $7 trillion dollars have been spent on poverty programs since Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty with little, if any, impact on poverty. Diabolically, every election cycle, Democrats blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in the inner-cities, then incite blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans.

In order to break the Democrats' stranglehold on the black vote and free black Americans from the Democrat Party's economic plantation, we must shed the light of truth on the Democrats. We must demonstrate that the Democrat Party policies of socialism and dependency on government handouts offer the pathway to poverty, while Republican Party principles of hard work, personal responsibility, getting a good education and ownership of homes and small businesses offer the pathway to prosperity.

Pelosi is telling the American people... drill to your heart's content as long as you don't drill where there is oil!

But that's not all! The Institute for Energy Research also states:

"The plan permanently bans access to 97 percent of the 10.527 billion barrels off the coast of California. It allows the State to decide whether to produce just 3 percent, or 287 million barrels, which is highly unlikely anyway. The remainder...10.24 billion barrels...is off limits."

"Keeping the Eastern Gulf of Mexico off limits also denies access to large reserves located close to existing pipeline infrastructure. The plan keeps an estimated 3.65 [billion] barrels of oil and 22 trillion cubic feet of natural gas off limits.

"The offshore areas surrounding the State of Alaska are not currently subject to any bans. This plan appears to institute a 50-mile ban around energy-rich Alaskan shore for the first time ever . Energy exploration there is just beginning.

"While the plan enables the states to 'opt in' and produce energy between 50 and 100 miles, it lacks a revenue sharing mechanism, thereby making it highly unlikely that state would chose to do so... 

RE: Block the Pelosi Sham Energy Legislation!  Drill Here and Drill Now!

On Monday evening at 9:45 PM, Pelosi dropped a 245-page bill on Congress (H.R. 6899, the so-called “Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act.”). Then, using arcane procedural maneuvers, she effectively stifled substantive debate, by-passed the committee process, prohibited amendments and forced a vote within 24 hours! And on Tuesday evening, in the dark of night, the House of Representatives passed this "sham bill" on a mostly partisan vote of 239-189!

It's a sham and a cruel joke on the American people! Pelosi’s legislation is not a "policy reversal" and will not "allow greater drilling!"

According to House Minority Leader John Boehner; "It leaves most American energy under lock and key when we should be doing everything possible to expand energy production, increase conservation and promote development of clean, renewable energy. It would permanently lock up 80 percent of our nation's offshore energy resources -- holding hostage billions of barrels of American oil."

The Institute for Energy Research echoes that sentiment and calls this plan an "expensive energy bridge to nowhere." The Institute for Energy Research adds: "Based on the bill summary, however, the plan appears to be more of a 'bait and switch' that won’t do much of anything to bring new energy supplies to market for a long, long time."

"Drill Here and Drill Now" means just that! It does NOT mean 'trick the American people, institute new taxes, memorialize drilling prohibitions in areas that contain recoverable oil and open up domestic drilling in areas where there is no oil!' The American people are not fooled by this chicanery and I expect you to stand firm on the issue of domestic drilling at all cost!

It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00 and each can also get an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of$2,470.00 .

This compares very well to a single pensioner who after contributing to the growth and development of America for 40 to 50 years can only receive a monthly maximum of $1,012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!

Lets send this to all Americans, so we can all be ticked off and maybe we can get the refugees cut back to $1,012.00 and the pensioners up to $2,470 00 and enjoy some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 years.

I just wanted to get the day over with and...........

go down to Smokey's for a few cold ones.

Sneaking a look at my watch, I saw the time, 1655.

Five minutes to go before the cemetery gates are closed for the day.

Full dress was hot in the August sun.

Oklahoma summertime was as bad as ever --

the heat and humidity at the same level -- both too high.


I saw the car pull into the drive,

'69 or '70 model Cadillac Deville, looked factory-new.

It pulled into the parking lot at a snail's pace .

An old woman got out so slow I thought she was paralyzed.

She had a cane and a sheaf of flowers,

about four or five bunches as best I could tell.

I couldn't help myself.

The thought came unwanted,

and left a slightly bitter taste:

'She's going to spend an hour,

and for this old soldier...my hip hurts like hell

and I'm ready to get out of here right now!'


But for this day my duty was to assist anyone coming in.

Kevin would lock the 'In' gate and if....

I could just hurry the old biddy along ,

we might make the last half of happy hour at Smokey's.


I broke Post Attention.

My hip made gritty noises when I took the first step

and the pain went up a notch.

I must have made a real military sight;

middle-aged man with a small pot-gut and half a limp,

in Marine Full Dress Uniform, which had lost its razor

crease about 30 minutes after I began the watch...

at the cemetery.


I stopped in front of her, halfway up the walk.

She looked up at me with an old woman's squint.

'Ma'am may I assist you in any way?'


She took long enough to answer.

'Yes, son. Can you carry these flowers?

I seem to be moving a tad slow these days.'


'My pleasure Ma'am.'

Well, it wasn't too much of a lie.

She looked again.

'Marine, where were you stationed?'

' Vietnam , Ma'am.

Ground-pounder. '69 to '71.'

She looked at me closer.

'Wounded in action, I see.

Well done, Marine, I'll be as quick as I can.'

I lied a little bigger, 'No hurry, Ma'am.'

She smiled............. and winked at me.

'Son, I'm 85-years old and I can tell a lie from a long way off.

Let's get this done, might be the last time I can do this.

She headed for the World War I section, stopping at a stone.

She paused for a second, 'Two more, son, and we'll be done'

I almost didn't say anything, but, 'Yes, Ma'am, Take your time.'

She looked confused. ?'Where's the Vietnam section, son?

I seem to have lost my way.'

I pointed with my chin. 'That way, Ma'am.'

'Oh!' she chuckled quietly.

'Son, me and old age ain't too friendly.'

She headed down the walk I'd pointed at.

She stopped at a couple of stones before

she found the ones she wanted.

She placed a bunch on Larry Wieserman USMC, 1968,

and the last one on Darrel Wieserman USMC, 1970.

She stood there and murmured a few words......

I still couldn't make out.

'OK, son , I'm finished.


Get me back to my car and you can go home.'

'Yes, Ma'am. ?If I may ask, were those your kinfolk ?'

She paused.

'Yes, Donald Davidson was my father;

Stephen was my uncle;

Stanley was my husband;

Larry and Darrel were our sons.

All killed in action, all Marines.'

She stopped, whether she had finished, or couldn't finish,

I just don't know.

She made her way to her car, slowly, and painfully.


I waited for a polite distance to come between us.......

and then double-timed it over to Kevin waiting by the car.

'Get to the 'Out'-gate QUICK~!, ?I have something I've JUSTgot to do.'

Kevin started to say something, but saw the look I gave him.

He broke the rules to get us there down the service road.

We beat her.

She hadn't made it around the rotunda yet.


'Kevin............ stand to attention next to the gate post.

Follow my lead.'

I humped it across the drive to the other post.

When the Cadillac came puttering around from the hedges

and began the short straight traverse to the gate,

I called in my best gunny's voice: 'TehenHut! Present Haaaarms!'

I have to hand it to Kevin, he never blinked an eye;

full dress attention and a salute that would make his DI proud.

She drove through that gate with two old worn-out soldiers

giving her a send off she deserved, for service rendered to

her country, and for knowing Duty, Honor and Sacrifice


I am not quite sure, but I think I saw............

a BIG salute returned from that Cadillac!

Instead of 'The End'.... just think of 'Taps'.

As a final thought on my part, let me share a favorite prayer:


'Lord, keep our servicemen and women safe,

whether they serve at home or overseas.

Hold them in Your loving hands and protect them as they protect us.'


Let's all keep those currently serving and those who have gone before,

in our thoughts. They are the reason for the many freedoms we enjoy.

John McCain's remarks about the Pledge of Allegiance





In light of the recent appeals court ruling in California, with respect to the Pledge of Allegiance, the following recollection from Senator John McCain is very appropriate:


'The Pledge of Allegiance' -

'As you may know, I spent five and one half years as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. In the early ye ars of our imprisonment, the NVA kept us in solitary confinement or two or three to a cell. In 1971 the NVA moved us from these conditions of isolation into large rooms with as many as 30 to 40 men to a room.

This was, as you can imagine, a wonderful change and was a direct result of the efforts of millions of Americans on behalf of a few hundred POWs 10,000 miles from home. One of the men who moved into my room was a young man named Mike Christian.

Mike came from a small town near Selma , Alabama . He didn't wear a pair of shoes until he was 13 years old. At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy. He later earned a commission by going to Officer Training Schoo l Then he became a Naval Flight Officer and was shot down and captured in 1967. Mike had a keen and deep appreciation of the opportunities this country and our military provide for people who want to work and want to succeed.

As part of the change in treatment, the Vietnamese allowed some prisoners to receive packages from home. In some of these packages were handkerchiefs, scarves and other items of clothing.

Mike got himself a bamboo needle. Over a period of a couple of months, he created an American flag and sewed on the inside of his shirt.
Every afternoon, before we had a bowl of soup, we would hang Mike's shirt on the wall of the cell and say the Pledge of Allegiance.
I know the Pledge of Allegiance may not seem the most important part of our day now, but I can assure you that in that stark cell it was indeed the most important and meaningful event.

One day the Vietnamese searched our cell, as they did periodically, and discovered Mike's shirt with the flag sewn inside, and removed it.
That evening they returned, opened the door of the cell, and for the benefit of all of us, beat Mike Christian severely for the next couple of hours. Then, they opened the door of the cell and threw him in. We cleaned him up as well as we could.

The cell in which we lived had a concrete slab in the middle on which we slept Four naked light bulbs hung in each corner of the room.

As I said, we tried to clean up Mike as well as we could. After the excitement died down, I looked in the corner of the room, and sitting there beneath that dim light bulb with a piece of red cloth, another shirt and his bamboo needle, was my friend, Mike Christian. He was sitting there with his eyes almost shut from the beating he had received, making another American flag. He was not making the flag because it made Mi ke Christian feel better. He was making that flag because he knew how important it was to us to be able to Pledge our allegiance to our flag and country.

So the next time you say the Pledge of Allegiance, you must never forget the sacrifice and courage that thousands of Americans have made to build our natio n and promote freedom around the world. You must remember our duty, our honor, and our country.'
