Is there enough gun control?  What are the solutions to gun violence?  How can our Constitutional rights to bear arms be balanced with our need to feel safe in our neighborhoods?

ENOUGH WITH ALL OF THIS HYPERPOLE OVER FIREARMS! There are enough laws on the books already to alievate the felons who possess firearms. The problem is that when it is time for sentencing, minor sentences are given. When will the judical system finally realize that THEY are the problems with the firearm crime in the streets of Philadelphia. Until Judges "throw the book" at these individuals, firearm crime and crime associated with it will remain the same, if not rise. In the Federalist Papers, Thomas Jefferson stated that he thought that every man sould be armed at all times for defense of self and property. If individuals were to conquer their hoplophobic attitudes, wearing a legally licensed firearm would make a vst majority of these cowardly criminals second guess their actions. If the Mayor really wants to put some teeth into the gun problems in Philly, inact the "Castle Doctrine" indentical to the State of Florida's law. That way everyone has the right to defend themselves, family and others in way of grave harm, whether in their home, car or on the street, the right to self defense without legal retribution, through criminal action or civil action.

Why does someone feel the need to impose there personal views into the Constitution! The statements of Thomas Jefferson were made at a time when we had no US Army, Federal, and State or City Police forces! Your antiquated view would negate 150 years of protection of the citizens by citizens in the field of Law Enforcement. Also, how would every citizen receive a "gun for protection" and be trained to use it? What of those who oppose taking a life or those who want to drive a tank or carry a bazooka in the streets? The reason we don't approve the Wild Wild West non-Laws was that they didn't work!

so lets make it hard for the people with no record to get a right to bare arms? That is the biggest bull i heard in a long time. Criminals are always gonna find a way to get there hands on a weapon. i know how to get a weapon without a license but i have no record so i don't need to do such a thing but if Nutter has his way then i guess i'll have to do what the crinmals are doing to get a gun for my own protection cause the crap that they are gonna put you through to get a license to carry is gonna be down right ridiculous.

Guns are not the problem. Lieberal policies and court decisions are the problem. The moral fabric of society has broken down. There is no longer any respect for law or law enforcement and life in general. Urban households lack fathers. Children lack discipline. Liberals have tried to eradicate all moral absolutes. Prisons can no longer hold all the crminals. Punishment is no longer in vogue. Our courts give criminals more rights than criminals. Swift justice now takes years, if not decades. If this doesn't turn around, citizens are going to need guns even more than they need them now. There are more and more nieghborhoods in our inner cities where police won't even go.

On top of this, the courts don't enforce the gun laws that are already on the books. If they enforced the law, then perhaps that would help the situation. If they won't do that, no new gun control law is going to help. It's the same with illegal immigration. It may be illegal, but if the courts and the Feds won't enforce the laws on the books, then it becomes legal by default. Unless our society as a whole changes, gun control will just make things worse, not better

Guns are the problem. The sole purpose of a gun is to kill. There are no gun manufacturers in Philadelphia but hundreds of thousands of illegal guns in Philadelphia! If we are going to utilize laws to correct this problem the steps are simple. An illegal gun is used to kill a citizen. The criminal using the gun gets the death penalty, the gun owner who had the gun not secured gets the death penalty, and the gun shop owner who sold to an irresponsible person gets the death penalty. Now Judges don’t control the penalty. If this “Liberal” view is too harsh for you then turn in all guns and let Federal, State and City Police Officers protect citizens. If only Law Enforcement had guns how many criminals would attack citizens or Police.

Gun control make us easy target for those who will not abide by the law!!! Look, their killing cops, do you really think because we enact law making guns illegal that criminal will suddenly lay down their weapons? Don't be stupid. Gun laws allow criminals to not worry about being a target themselves.

Bullovtp, you are a City Government Administrator? Don't you have to take an oath to uphold the federal constitution and the state constitution? Do you even know what the constitution is, or what it says? With your comments here you frighten me, and I'm sure many others. Not only do you want to kill the murderer, but the legal owner he stole the weapon from, and the original seller? What if he used a baseball bat? Kill the little leaguer it was stolen from? How about a knife (very common in your city)? Do you kill the store owner and the housewife who originally bought it? Then you want us to turn in our means of defense from these criminals who mean us harm and let an already overtaxed police force protect us? Ask the chief if he can protect all citizens all the time? Ask him if they have a duty to protect any individual. Ask him, see what he says. Fact is, police solve crimes that have already happened. They cannot protect you or me. Our safety is our responsibility and you want to take that right away. If I was one of your constituents I would demand that you step down from your position and ask that charges of treason be brought against you.

The liberal ideation is to create smoke screens intended to obscure irressponible behavior. The gun law outcry is a transparent effort to take the focus off the shooters. The animals that committed this crime didn,t apply for permits or fill out firearm purchase forms. This city is in crisis due to years of liberal leadership.

Thanks to many of you for the backup. The world has gone crazy, and now they want to take what is often people's last option for personal protection. No way! Guns are NOT the problem. You folks need to find another scapegoat while you are in delusion and refuse to face the real reasons why crime is out of control in our inner cities. In the meantime, for the sake of us all, perhaps you libs should just voluntarily give up your guns and see how you make out. You'll soon be begging to get them back. Criminals don't care whether you are a lib or a conservative.

The only purpose of a gun is to kill? Let me see, I have over 100 guns and you know what. Not a single one ever killed anyone. But Ted Kenndy car has killed. Should we not outlaw cars. After all they kill more people per year then guns? When was the last time you seen a gun lift itself off the table and kill someone. People kill people. Simple. Take away the guns and people find other ways to kill people. I have guns because I like to shoot targets. I skill to hit a small target at long range lets me have fun. I do not have guns to kill people. I hunt as well. But I am more into archery for that then guns. It is a choice we Americas have had for over 200 years. Our laws have been around for over 200 years and doesn't need any major rewrite. As a matter of fact we need to get back to the basics of the laws. The question that needs to be asked is WHY WAS A 10 time arrested man OUT OF JAIL? This is the question. It is simple, you comment crime with a weapon, you go to jail for 20 years. Problem solved. You kill a person in murder you die. That will solve jails getting over populated.

I would like to see proof where "gun control" works, even though Chicago and D.C.'s crime levels are through the roof! It is a disgrace that the 2nd ammendment is being blamed for all of the crime today. Lets start arming local police with assault rifles and keeping these criminals behind bars (where they belong) for life!! CAPITAL PUNISHMENT DOES WORK!

FIREARM LAWS need some modification, however that is not the ROOT of the problem...laws are not a problem to abide by for upstanding citizens...we are referring to criminals and no matter how stringent the "law" is CRIMINALS BREAK LAWS FOR A LIVING! As a result we need to deal with the root which is the JUDICIAL SYSTEM which has failed in Interpreting and enforcing the law and justice. There is no reason why CAREER CRIMINALS with as many priors as these three perpetrators should have ever been able to see the light of day. However the judicial system allows them to float time after time...administering low bail, low sentences, and far too many opportunities for mercy. I sometimes wonder if these big time judges and la makers were forced to ive in the city as Police Offficers are...would they be so prone to give this criminal and the next criminal 5,10,15 chances to return to the street. I see in the Criminal Justice center, 1801 Vine daily people who are guilty and proven guilty for VUFA and other related offenses given minor sentences. Let one of those victims of a shooting be somone in the county or upsate pa...or wherever these judges and law makers live...they would try to pass laws for caining on national T.V. It's an abomination. As the D.A stated if she were a police officer she would want to have an assault rifle on duty right about now...but the most they give philadelphia police officers supervisors is a Tazor gun with a glock....it's a suicide mission!

A FULL AND THUROUGH INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE LAUNCHED ON OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM AT ONCE....IF THE PUBLIC SET IN A COURT ROOM FOR ONE DAY....PHILADELPHIANS WOULD INSTANTLY SEE WHY OUR CITY IS THE WAY IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT'S NOT GUN CONTROL IS CRIMINAL CONTROL AND LAW INTERPRETATION....WHY CANT POPLE GET THAT???????

I agree with USAFVET. To have or not have guns, laws or no laws, will not reach the core of the problem! I believe the core is, that there is a lack of value for human life, respect for each other and the lack of awareness that we live in a "civilized" world. The family unit has fallen apart along with religion and the future looks mighty dim! These folks have nothing, never will and will do anything to possess what they "want" or feel they need to do at the moment. There has always been a black market for whatever was illegal and always will be. Criminals will always have and be able to get weapons of choice. Not allowing "civilians" to be able to defend themselves (by choice) is a crime in itself!!!

And yet, these liberal polly's continue to shift blame to all the wrong places. Their policies have failed in Philly and other big cities for years.

Lets blame the NRA, create blanket laws that remove more and more of our personal freedoms, and continue to seat liberal, hand slapping judges in our courts...

....Worked pretty well so far, hasn't it?

How about you all do something about your repeat offenders, like put them to death... so they are not given the opportunity to cycle through the system over and over and then eventually be given the opportunity to kill more people. If they ever catch the man who killed the Police Officer, he will get a nice little liberal slap on the hand, put into jail for a while and released to do it all over again. Send him on down here, we will take care of him.

O.K. Fox, there are your answers. Now you tell us how to stop the insanity. Big Ed will tell us again today that gun control laws are the problem. Politicians who pander to the lunatics to get their vote, fund wasteful programs that support irresponsible behavior, and appoint absolute morons to positions of authority are just as guilty as the criminals themselves. Nothing will change.
