Woman sues for ballot in Spanish

A woman in Deltona is suing the Supervisor of Elections because the ballot was not in English AND Spanish!!  The law only requires that if at least 5% of the population is hispanic.

We're not Kissimmee....yet!!!  Yes, I KNOW Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the US...that you are a citizen.  However, being a citizen, you should speak the language of the country!!   If you moved here from another county, the citizenship test is in ENGLISH!!!

If you want to vote, learn the language!!  Was the lawsuit in English or Spanish???  Ae YOU going to pay to have ballots printed in multiple languages???

This just burns me up!!!

I am Swedish decent.....are there 15,000 others out there that are swedish? Let's get a class action going. Don't worry about the fact that we will look like fools or should feel really stupid because they do not enable us. Think of that money they owe us!!! They have hurt out poor patheyic feelings.

Guess we need to turn 5% of our street signs into the spanish language for this MORON???

This spanish crap is getting way out of hand. If those people who cant learn the English language, then they need to go to school and learn it. This country has always used the English language and just because these people come here doesnt mean we have to change for them. They came here so they need to do the changing.

Just to clarify something, my wife was born and raised in New York city and is of hispanic decent. She speaks both languages but English is her primary language.

I love it - great catch Flanative. I am so sick of it. You know when my parents came over here in the 60's NOTHING WAS IN SPANISH.....an ocassional translator.......MY DAD AND ALL OF US DID OUR TEST IN ENGLISH......AND WE PAID FOR IT............I AM SICK OF ILLEGALS TRYING TO GET OVER AND ITS OUR OWN FAULT FOR ALLOWING ALL THIS BS TO GO ON..........THESE STUPID ESOL PROGRAMS IN THE STATE OF FLORIDUH ALSO GOT TO GO..... fine....one year shoud be suffice FOR EVERY ONE TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE.......HECK I LEARNED IN A FEW MONTHS.......I was 6 years old.

I think the whole problem started with the business owners printing advertisements in BOTH languages and it has somehow transferred over to the Latinos thinking that it is their RIGHT to have everything spelled out for them in spanish.
KUDOS to the hispanic people like CandyAquino that have made something of themselves without expecting everyone else to bow down to their wishes and wants.

that's sweet jessicaS...and I will certainly take that compliment though some of "my" own think I am BENEDICT ARNOLD for believing in that....this is AMERICA..WE COME HERE TO LIVE OUT OUR DREAMS; A BETTER LIFE; A BETTER EDUCATION AND MAKE THE MONEY.....NOT TO FREE LOAD OFF THE AMERICANS...CERTAINLY IN THE 60'S THAT was the idea to come here. Unfortunately, I will put blame on OUR ELECTED officials that have allowed this nonsense to spread like wild fire and LIKE WE ARE QUICKLY LEARNING ...now everybody and their mothers from OUT OF AMERICA is quickly assuming everything is racists; suing frivolously and IT'S BECOME A GIANT MESS.......I AM SADDENED TO SEE AMERICA going down a tube..but if I can make that difference I will continue to speak up!

Seems to me that names look the same in both languages. To me that means her concern is with the section that has a paragraph or two explaining what you are voting for. If she needs to read that then it tells me she didn't do her homework and didn't have a clue what she was voting for. She's one of those who makes up her mind standing in line. We don't need these people to be voting.

By the way, a special thank you to the woman in Whole Foods yesterday who thought it was ok to wait until she got to the check out line to compare the products she picked out and cause everyone behind her to wait while she stood there reading the different lables. I guess money doesn't make you smart.

All registered voters received, or should have received, a sample ballot prior to the election. The sample ballot was in English and Spanish. All voters, including the Deltona litigant, were allowed to bring that ballot with them to the polls as a voting aid. Case closed. BTW, Candy, how is it that no matter how benign a blog may be you are able to transform it into a Democratic conspiracy? Eight years ago this country had an economic surplus and today we are struggling to make ends meet, perhaps you would suggest Bush is a closet Democrat that brought our economy to it's knees.

Born and raised in Tampa, I'm a 5th generation Fla Native and proud of it! My mom raised 6 of us by herself, in a time long before welfare and food stamps. She worked 3 jobs, which is probably where I learned my work ethic and my distain for people who are too lazy to work and "expect" their welfare checks and food stamps year after year, generation after generation! I spent over 20 years in the Air Force, going in during Viet Nam and leaving after Gulf 1, and have a son currently in the Army preparing for deployment to Iraq. The loves of my life are my wife, kids, grandkids and the Harley (not necessarily in that order, but don't tell the wife, kids or grandkids)!! When not working on my second "career", I ride with a group called the Patriot Guard (patriotguard.org), attending the funerals of our heros who gave their lives for our freedoms. Most in our organization use our "personal days" or "without pay" to attend with permission of the family, and are proud to do it!! This group started because of people such as those at Westboro Baptist "Church" who began protesting these funerals with signs such as "thank God for dead soliders". NEVER AGAIN!!! Yep, I'm a right wing, conservative redneck. I don't like people using abortion as birth control. I think the ACLU is the worst thing that ever happened to this great country. I think 99% of the lawyers give the rest of them a bad name. I promise that if you come into my house in the middle of the night you will be carried out and buried. I think no one should be on welfare for more than 2 years during their life I don't think I should have to pay to support your kids fathered by someone whose name you don't know. I think every county should have a jail just like the Sheriff in Maricopa County AZ with tents and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I don't care if what i say offends you. I think illegals should be put on a bus and taken back across the boarder. I don't think I should have to press 1 for English. I think you have the right to burn our flag, but I promise you won't be successful if I'm around and don't care if I get sent to jail while your left-wing, liberal, Michael Moore, Rosie, Alec Baldwin America haters cheer!!!! I will PROUDLY go to jail to protect HER!!! If we disagree here, that's fine. You have to right to be wrong. I don't take it personal and hope you don't either. Land of the free, BECAUSE of the brave...
