Do you really know what is in the food you feed your dog???  I didn't until yesterday.  I thought we were feeding our dog pretty well (Purina and Science Diet) until I met someone yesterday that educated me!!

A website called dogfoodproject.com rates dog food by nutional value.  Purina got an "F", as did Science Diet!!!   It's like feeding your dog at McDonalds every day!!!

The site gives you a simple, easy to read translation of what the ingredients really are, as well as a list of many dog foods that are good, like Canidae, Flint River and Innova.  It also has a store locator where you can find these foods.

The website does not appear to push or advertise any brand, just the facts for the foods you are buying.  Apparently, Science Diet, Purina, etc are often sold by vets, so they have a financial interest, or are just not trained in animal nutrition like they should be!!  Many of the "fillers" they use are by-products I won't even tell you what is really in them!!  Check out the website!!!

Personally, we are going to a store that sells the good food this weekend and changing our dogs diet today!!!

Look into the nutritional value of the food you are feeding your dog!!  It may be a bit more expensive, but I'm told you can normally feed your dog 1/2 as much because of the much higher nutritional value!  I'm also told your dog will have more energy and less medical problems!!!

What I feed my wolf is called "A Taste of Wild" in which is made from Wild meat that is sold in the feed store in Chuluota. Very healthy with no additives and made here in America. Check it out if your around the area...they are located next to Chuluota Grocery, right behind the only gas station there. Its a bit pricey but worth it!

You ever notice your dog after eating wanted to just lie down and sleep? And for about 3 or 4 hours was really lazy? A long time ago I notice this with my retriever, took it to the vet and told me about the "ingredients" with name changes, he recommended me to use real food(which had it been wild or in the 1800's it would eat, since then it has been chicken, veggies, beef, turkey, etc.

If the market of animal needs! That Taste of Wild food is all natural and is even recommended for feeding to wolves. Like Candy stated...although some don't feel and some has even stated that human table food is bad for your dog...well if thats true then my animals wouldn't have lived for so many years then huh! I have always fed mine left overs and they got the actual chicken, beef, turkey, seafood, veggies...all those same ingredients straight from my table and I know what goes into my food I prepare! Have you also noticed that animals are now having known human health problems? Could there be some kind of connection?

I have been feeding my dogs Iams natural, I have two Jack Russell Terriers (ages 8 & 10) the 10 year old has allergies, we have tried several foods, the only other foos that seemed to help her was called Wellness, it is a fish and sweet potato dry food. I didn't see any information on either of them? Maybe I was not looking in the right place?

I want to just let you all know of a situation. About 3 weeks ago, I went to the store to get my dogs food, b4 I tooka trip. The normal stuff I buy was "out" so I picked up Purina Beneful and a box of the Moist and meaty. Normally they (Jack Russel and a chihuahua) get a scoop of iams w/ a package of the moist and meaty so it is not soo dry. Anyway. The first day, the small one got sick. was puking for hours. I figured he was coming down w/ a cold or something. Next day they both are sick and puking everywhere. Come to find out, apparently the Beneful is "TAINTED" yet again. This is RIDICULOUS!!!! Our govt is into everyone's business. They are into even other country's business, yet they will not MAKE these pet food suppliers do the right thing and not kill off our pets??? This is just STUPID!!!. I am over all the bs. I am making food for my dogs now and they have not been sick since. If you love your pets, don't put your TRUST in those companys. Apparently they don't have any regulation whatsoever. I was told that they would not reimburse me for the veterinarian bills the last time but if they vet. said their product caused my dogs illness , they would reimburse me for the cost of their dogfood... This is why our country is being run into the ground.. NO ONE SEEMS TO GIVE A DAMN ANYMORE!!!!

My pup won't touch dry food. I keep looking for something different that she might like. The people I got her from gave her Cesar and that's all she will eat. Of course she love table food, so when I cook I put some aside for her and skip the Cesar that day, or cut out a can. Shes a mix, jack russell and rat terrier.

When you hastily change a dogs diet, it many cases it will get sick. I changed abruptly one time and my dogs got the runs. It is better to mix the new and the old for transition. Personally, my dogs are not picky eaters, they eat what I eat mostly, including broccoli, cauliflower, onions, tomatoes, carrots, brussell sprouts, spinach, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, radishes, beans, peas, peanuts, walnuts and milk duds. I keep a bag of Pedigree on hand for filler. My doggies favorite meal? Peanut Butter and Toast (whole grain of course).

Pattie, the old saying, you dog will it when it gets hungry enough is true.

Yes Sip you are right she will, but it takes days. So mama feels sorry for her and gives her a nice big pork chop.
And OH do they love peanut butter. When we went to puppy school that was one of the item we used for training.

Brenda, the Iams Lamb Meat and Rice scored a "D". I didn't see any of the other Iaams. Here is the link to grades of many food: http://www.playdogexcellent.com/DogFood.htm

Also, if you look at the dogfoodproject.com at the "yuck factor" section and compare to what is in Iams, it may shock you!

Fla Native the Iams is an all natural product, my 10 year old Jack seems to be doing much better with her allergies since I started her on it about 6 months ago, note that this is not a lamb and rice formula, like the Nutro Max that I had them on previously, she itched and scratched all the time, now not so much.

The other one that I tried for a few months was the "Wellness" brand fish and sweet potato mix, a lot more expensive than Nutro, but the allergies did not subside no where near as much as it has with the Iams natural. And get this, the Iams natural must be good, because the cats prefer it to their own food!!!

Born and raised in Tampa, I'm a 5th generation Fla Native and proud of it! My mom raised 6 of us by herself, in a time long before welfare and food stamps. She worked 3 jobs, which is probably where I learned my work ethic and my distain for people who are too lazy to work and "expect" their welfare checks and food stamps year after year, generation after generation! I spent over 20 years in the Air Force, going in during Viet Nam and leaving after Gulf 1, and have a son currently in the Army preparing for deployment to Iraq. The loves of my life are my wife, kids, grandkids and the Harley (not necessarily in that order, but don't tell the wife, kids or grandkids)!! When not working on my second "career", I ride with a group called the Patriot Guard (patriotguard.org), attending the funerals of our heros who gave their lives for our freedoms. Most in our organization use our "personal days" or "without pay" to attend with permission of the family, and are proud to do it!! This group started because of people such as those at Westboro Baptist "Church" who began protesting these funerals with signs such as "thank God for dead soliders". NEVER AGAIN!!! Yep, I'm a right wing, conservative redneck. I don't like people using abortion as birth control. I think the ACLU is the worst thing that ever happened to this great country. I think 99% of the lawyers give the rest of them a bad name. I promise that if you come into my house in the middle of the night you will be carried out and buried. I think no one should be on welfare for more than 2 years during their life I don't think I should have to pay to support your kids fathered by someone whose name you don't know. I think every county should have a jail just like the Sheriff in Maricopa County AZ with tents and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I don't care if what i say offends you. I think illegals should be put on a bus and taken back across the boarder. I don't think I should have to press 1 for English. I think you have the right to burn our flag, but I promise you won't be successful if I'm around and don't care if I get sent to jail while your left-wing, liberal, Michael Moore, Rosie, Alec Baldwin America haters cheer!!!! I will PROUDLY go to jail to protect HER!!! If we disagree here, that's fine. You have to right to be wrong. I don't take it personal and hope you don't either. Land of the free, BECAUSE of the brave...
