I love music and I love Christmas music.  But am I wrong or is Paul McCartney's 'Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time' getting more than the usual share of Christmas air play?  In every store I go in, and every time I hear Christmas music I can't escape that song.  A close second is Mariah Carey's 'All I want for Christmas is you'.

What do you think gets too much play?

How about your favorite?  Christmas season begins after I hear 'Rockin Around the Christmas Tree' (Brenda Lee)

Oh Stick! You're gettin' me fired up now!I used to do sub-contracting work for all sorts of retail stores.Lowes,Home-Depot,Wal-Mart,K-Mart,Service Merchandise,Home depot expo Design Centers,etc,etc......
Let me tell you that you don't know what sick and tired of a Christmas song is until you've spent the entire month of December working 16 hours per day, seven days per week in these stores. You wanna know who gets too dambed much play?Let me put it this way,if I had heard one more version of My Favorite Things I would have probably gone totally ballistic.I absolutly cannot believe how many people do their own unique, albeit sometimes gut wrenching, version of that dambed song.Allow me to credit the original creator though.Screw you Rodgers and Hammerstein!and you too Julie Andrews!
I did a little peeking around the net and found no less than 35 different artists who do this song and i'll bet they played every one of them in those stores. There!I've been wanting to go off about that for years. Thanks for asking Stick!
Now on a lighter note my faves would be anything from Bing but especially Chestnuts Roasting and Let It Snow.My all time fave would have to be Emerson,Lake and Palmer's I Believe In Father Christmas although it's not strictly a Christmas song per se'but more of a protest song about the commercialization and PCing of Christmas.
The songs writer,Greg Lake said the following:

"I find it appalling when people say it's politically incorrect to talk about Christmas, you've got to talk about "The Holiday Season." Christmas was a time of family warmth and love. There wa

I wish we could attach .wav files to blogs. You'd hear "and then I don't feel sooooooooo bad" right now to help you ease into the Kool Yule frame of mind.

Fishstick, my favorite Christmas song is "O Holy Night" as long as the singer doesn't goof around with it.

Thanks for commenting on my thoughts about Iran. And I'm not even a Bush supporter. But I think Bush is dead right about Iran.

Christmas Shoes is the most horrible song I've ever heard! You couldn't pack more cheese into this song if you were a Wisconsin cow on the moon. Every time I catch the first beat over the radio I can't hit the changer fast enough. Then there is that Christmas Time in Washington song, Yuppie pompous drule. Other than those 2, I love just about all the great classics. The fairly new raggae Christmas song sounds great and gets me moving. Merry Christmas All.
