FESKJS's Blog

I have listened to Rick and Alexis carry on for two days about the pilot who's firearm discharged in the cockpit.

In the same breath they will speculate as to what happened, then they will say that no determination has been reached!! Why can't they wait until investigators release their findings?

I for one am not interested in their opinion. They are there to report the news, not give their views and opinions!

They carry on about what "could have happened". But fortunately nothing did.

If they want to report about narrowly averted disasters then look at how many accidental discharges there are in police locker rooms. Or other accidental discharges there are that involve "trained professionals".

I think it's pretty clear that they are promoting their anti-gut agenda!

As far as the anti-gut agenda goes, I have been dieting and exercising.

Now, with the accidental discharge of weapons, I am guessing "it happens"...

Nobody is perfect.

When an event of one sort or another occurs, it is always going to be a media moment to push the personal agenda.

I am a big gun supporter. I don't know why the gun went off in the cockpit...or why the pilot was even handling it in the plane!

I do know this...it is going to be even harder to get guns in the hands of pilots when you have baboons like this guy misfiring in a plane!

And thank goodness for that! All we need is one of our pilots causing injury. Thought it was supposed to be a "concealed" weapon.

I will save my judgment until all the evidence is in.

Hey FE! What took you so long to write? :)

Sorry I have not seen the broadcast on this story, but I hope there's a good reason for the accident. A good friend is a pilot, and I sure hope the pilots don't lose the privilege to carry because of this.

Hey PJ:

There is rarely a good reason, but on occasion things do happen.

That's why I am waiting until the entire story comes out.

There are so many different scenarios that one could speculate forever..

I finally had to write because I was tired of Rick (morning news) making inferences that the pilot might have been "twirling" the gun. He said this not once, but twice that I heard.

This type of crack pot commentary should not be on a news broadcast. He has this pilot looking like an incompetent fool. Guilty before the evidence has been assessed!

Maybe he his, but I will wait and see.

Sorry about that typo, it slipped right by.

So now we are hearing from the pilot, he was in the process of stowing the firearm when it discharged.

This would make sense given the location of the bullet hole. Also they were at 8000 feet which means they were in the glide path.

Was it stupid? Probably. Either he should refrain from carrying a round in the chamber or make sure that the safety is engaged. I prefer the former.

Lets see what Rick has to say tomorrow!!

In the "good old days", anchors reported the news, and we were left to draw our own conclusion, and form our own opinion. Today anchors insist on "interpreting" the facts, and inflicting their own opinion on us. And sadly, the sheep in this country, unable to think for themselves, believe all the crap the talking heads spout.
I'm sick of hearing anchors using their air time to promote their own beliefs and agendas. Especially for the purpose of infringing on my 2nd Amendment rights!
Shut up and read the facts!
I CAN THINK FOR MYSELF!
And as for the anchors constantly "what if'ing" every incident?
Like they say, "IF the Queen had balls, she'd be the King"!

You were slightly more descriptive than myself, but I am in absolute agreement BOB!

I heard that the pilot was in the process of stowing the pistol when it went off. Not all semi-auto's have a true safety such has found on the Colts 1911's. My Ruger P-95 has a de-cocking lever which merely drops the hammer down but in the end the best safety to use when handling a handgun is to keep the finger off the trigger .

I'm trying to picture this. 8,000 ft in the glide path. Like in landing the plane? Call me crazy, but I'd want the pilot to be concentrating on landing not playing Roy Rogers. It should have been holstered long before that. Like during the flight. We don't need guns laying around the cockpit during flights.

Yes and if someone was trying to hijack the airplane you were on you would sing a different tune.
You can always tell the anti-gun zealots, they make unwarranted remarks like "Playing Roy Rogers".
The man must be somewhat competent or he would not have been in the cockpit to start with.
People make mistakes, his was a stupid one, and nobody knows that more then he.
Don't be one of the media sheep and make more out of the situation than it deserves.
Recognize it for what it is, anti-gun propaganda!
Besides, I didn't hear all this protest and uproar when the Feds put the Marshals on planes. They have guns to, and they can do just as much damage!!

Bob--I think the saying is "Balls, said the Queen, if I had two I'd be King, and the King laughed, not because he wanted to, but because he had to"
Scott, I carry my Taurus 9mm de-cocked, on safe, none in the chamber.
I wonder what "stowing" it amounts to, seems like it should be stowed all the time, within easy reach.

Assumptions can be made from now until the end of time. Until the pilot and the investigators release a collective account we will not have the full story.

But if I were to assume, I would say that the pilot had the firearm in a clip on holster. While attempting to place it in his bag, which is kept in a compartment on the left, it discharged.

You can not leave things lying around in the cockpit as this would be hazardous. Thermal up drafts and down drafts have been known to raise or lower an aircraft several hundred feet in just a few seconds. This causes loose items to become projectiles.

I have never seen a pilot walking through an airport or boarding an aircraft wearing a firearm. This would explain "stowing the firearm".

If you'll notice I mentioned having it put away during flight. I just love the "somewhat competent" comment. Makes be feel a lot safer. I never had any trouble thinking on my own and still don't. And in case you hadn't thought it through, flying a plane is the pilots first job. Playing Roy Rogers is the Marshal's. I'd feel a lot better with a gun in his/her hand than in a pilot's landing a plane. This "somewhat competent" pilot sounds like he was in the glide path BEFORE trying to stow the gun that should have been put away in the first place. Was he trying to get his bag packed so he could make a quick exit before touching down?

Fortunately the bullet didn't hit and knock out the computers or sever a controlling wire.

Fortunately there are redundant backup systems on commercial and military aircraft.

And true, the what ifs are endless. But luckily the airplanes skin was the only casualty.
