I can't remember the county, but one of the counties in Florida just recently had a sting on contractors working without a license. I know it's a good thing, but not the way it was handled.

They used 140 hours of time to do this X 10 or 12 police officer. So, that's around 1400 man hours.   They plan this elaborate scheme to enforce the law...and it's only a misdemeanor !

I think 1400 man hours could have been geared toward more important things...like felons. If your going to have a sting, why on something like this? These guys will be out that night, pay a fine and do it again.

I would bet the fines imposed on these people don't even come close to the money & time wasted on this sting.

What's your take?

That sounds about right. While some nut is stalking your kids, these guys are handling the important jobs.

If they want to bust them for working without a license, Why not bust the ones with aliens working for them.

Yes, and soon in Daytona they will be haunting the BLEEP bars here, it is a good gig. No danger involved, yet taxpayers are going to fund an operation that few really care about.
I do not frequent these clubs, but I did once in a while years ago.
No one has to enter these establishments if they do not want to. Why is it so important?
Don't get me started! But unfortunately you already did!

Reverse stings. First I want to say the new "Dummy" car they have instituted here is a great idea, and one of the best so far.
Others are ludicrous. Selling fake crack, and busting the buyers. Why not lock up the dealers? Why not sting the dealers? and the pushers? This is where the problem lies!
Female officers pretending to be hookers. Imagine the cost! Why not lock up the stinking hookers?
Insanely wasted tax dollars!

The point here is, all these "operations" are NOT dangerous, like stopping real crimes, and staking out the real threats to society.
What is more important? Well, you have your answer!!!

Doin, opperating witout a license may be a misdemeaner but in Orlando it carries a $2,000.00 fine. Some of these bums use strong-arm tactics on the elderly. There's also fraud/theft of money or materials along with safety/health issues.

Safety first. And where is that Dunkin' Donuts?

Yes Meb I agree, but it should be code enforcement and not the police, to look into violations of this sort. If a violation is found, that is when you call in the reinforcements to make the arrest.

You have to do your best to enforce all the laws or otherwise a defense attorney will claim it is selectve enforcement, you are picking on my client !

Not if they got the goods on them Meb, and when law enforcement is called, they will make the arrest based on the goods.

Believe me Frank,I know where you and Doin are coming from, it is FRUSTRATING ! A while back the OPD stated that if they got more help in identifying criminals they could get more off the streets. ONLY one PROBLEM with that statement : People are afraid that the criminals will get off easy or out early and come back for them. THAT is why I so STRONGLY BELIEVE IN THE DEATH PENALITY FOR VIOLENT CRIMMINALS !

While I love "ol sparky" Meb, that is not the immediate answer. As you stated on one of your blogs, the criminal justice system is out of order! The revolving door is the biggest obstacle to real law enforcement, and I fear it will get even worse.

Hard labor needs to be reinstated. Put them in tents and feed them baloney sandwiches. No TV,AC,all exercise will be conducted in the fields. One of the best deterant is to make jail and prison a place people fear to go ! I have to admitt though, I'D execute a bunch (violent criminals) too !

Yes, I believe that was one of Brenda's blogs, on the tent citys. She want's him for President. That could get many votes, and most certainly mine, if he wanted other things that I would like to see happen.
You should read that blog. This guy has the right idea!

Doin these types of contractors can really hurt and screw some people up. Stings are an excepted and successfull way to catch offenders.

Doin, what if one of these bums swindeled your parents out of their life savings to repave a driveway, install new windows,do an addition,or put on a new roof? It happens all of the time, particulary to the elderly. I'm not trying to pick at you.

These stings on minor things are a way for the police to justify the increase in funding for their next year. They choose the ones that are not likely to harm their own.

It is just public propiganda that they are on top of the problems.

If they had sting operations for violent and deadly criminals the cops would just screw it up by not blocking ALL avenues of escape for the criminal. Then their reputation of enforcing the law would be tarnished.

They pick and choose the laws they want to enforce. Nothing short of mass recall of all law enforcement affiials and restructuring of the way they do the job is going to change any of this. This includes the judges.

I am all for making the prisons places to fear instead of tax supported condo's. Each and every prisoner in solitary confinement with NO access to TV, AC, or exercise rooms. feed them in their cells, and shower them with a fire hose.
