What is it going to take to reduce the crime in philadelphia?

First we have a record murder rate. Now we have violent sexual assaults on the elderly.

The mayor is blaming the public for not doing enough. His true colors are showing through phildalephia. You not only voted for him but voted for him twice.

So neighborhood watches, whatever happened to them?

Beat cops that walked the same neighborhood everyday what happened to them?

Those two things could help turn the tide.

Some say its a lost cause in west philly.  But will it stay in west philly?  No. It will spread.

Will it take the state to intervene with state troopers?

Let the troopers handle traffic ticket work etc and push the philly cops into the neighborhoods on foot. In uniform walking the beat. Working with homeowners that want to save their neighborhoods.

Dewey,

Your concerns are valid but it seems to me that most neighborhoods have the attitude of "not my problem," at least until something happens to a loved one or someone close.

Having spoken to some of the detectives trying to solve homicides, it seems that many of the cases can be solved, if people would just step up and do the right thing. I was inquiring about a homicide from several months ago for a progress report. The detective told me that at least 10 people saw something of what happened, the shooter, the getaway car but not a single one is coming forward. The family of that murder victim is right now, trying to scrounge up money for a reward -- detective I spoke with didn't seem to think it will help. People just don't have that same interest in reward money.

Crime is everywhere -- I just think communities in other cities have done a better job rallying the troops.

Danger!!

Thats Lost in space.

my bad yo.

HAL!

On this subject, if people want to help save their neighborhoods, they all have to work together! Unfortunately that is not the case... And Thank God that John Crook Street is outta there! Only lived in Philly for 5 years but I still feel the dirt! Cops will come when you say gun... That's about it

They could start by punishing criminals, giving swift trials and instituting a mandatory death penalty for all murder cases. Criminals have more rights today than victims and witnesses refuse to testify for fear they are next. A justice system that has still not executed a cop killer 25 years after he killed him in cold blood should not be surprised to see crime rampant in the city. My best suggestion, move to the suburbs. There is still crime, for sure, but not at this level.

Stever, I moved from the City because of the violence and lack of police response and I still can feel the dirt all the way up here in the woods of the burbs! All I can say at this point, with the way things are going in the City of so called Brotherly Love, is to throw my hands up in the air and walk away. I know that the people who lived around me died, the newbs took over the block and they could of cared less, as in respect for their property, other people's property.. No respect to the elderly, run rampid, vandalizing, drinking, drugs... Husband has a new Truck... Someone was always trying to break in. And certainly no place to raise children... I still hold Values which are high and I am not about to have that all ruined by people who just don't give a BLEEP!

Want to stop crime...here is what we have to do.

First, enforce all the existing gun laws.
Criminals being criminals, do not respect the law, this is why they are criminals.

Second All law abiding citizens should be trained in the use and handling of firearms, as well as the law pertaining to self defense and use of deadly force.

Also, there should be a standard concealed carry permit system good in all 50 states

Third All children should be taught gun safety.
So the gun mystique is lessened.

Fourth, people need to wake up, their world is being destroyed by these subhumans. They can do something about it.

It's simple. If the "higher ups" didn't make so much money off of drugs that come into this country things would change for sure. Shame on them!
