Forgetting about the presidential race for a second I want to talk about the rising tide of liberalism sweeping this country and how it will affect both countries. In the 60s and early 70s liberalism was at its height but In the late 70s and early 80s we saw a backlash to liberalism with Reagen and a more conservative president due in part to what many Americans saw as a disastrous liberal president Jimmy Carter. But with the 90s we saw a very centrist divided government with a Democrat in the white house and a Republican congress. Our nation was very closely split in 2000 one of the reasons the election was so close in my opinion. Now Bush through 9/11 and national security fears has managed to push the country a bit to the right which is evident in the 2002 and 2004 elections. Now with years of an unpopular president and with the recent 2006 landslide for the Dems it appears that liberalism is making a comeback.
Now there are a number of reasons why I think this si happening: First of all While around the 2004 election both parties were around 33% of the American electorate. In the last 4 years a large gap has emerged the Dems now have 40% of the electorate as registered democrats and the Republicans now have 32% registered republicans which is about where it was when libealism and the Democrats were predominantly in power in the 60s and early 70s. Also Bush seems to have the potential to be a Carter or a Hoover for the naton a president who the majority of the populace believs messes up the country so muuch that their party suffers in successive elections. Also recently there seems to be an overwhelming amount of support among americans for increased government intervention in the economy and social structure of the country at the expense of profitablity. With over 80% in a  recnt poll by time saying they would support increased government at the expense of profitability for more economic security. This comes at the same time a similar number of Americans seem to facor a new social constract one more based upon government intervention and less on the free market. This all points to the rising of the Dems and liberalism.  The affects of this are already apperent the Republican party is begining to move to the center as the Dems had to move to the center when conservatism was rising in the 80s. McCain takes more liberal views of issues like the environment which his presecessor never would have. I think McCain might well win this election but he may lose the war. Ted Steven's recent inditement raises the spectare of a Democratic landslide in the congress this year when they are already expected to lose at leats 3 in the senate. McCain if elected will have to deal with an even more democratic congress with only him in the way. I wonder how long the republicans can put off this wave until it crests and falls on them. They have to wait until liberalism runs its course just as conservatism did but I wonder if the Republicans keep delaying will they be ready when it call comes apart and they have to deal with a heavily democratic controlled government?

once again you no nothing of what you speak..moderate to conservative have always rule this country ..when things would turn liberal as it did with Carter we got rid of it with a landslide..when it got that way with Clinton we elected a republican congress to keep him in check..and now the latest polls show this current election in a dead heat when by all rights it should be a walk for the democrats..like all Liberals Obama has no convictions about anything and is why he is trying to sound more like a republican then McCain ..because we don't accept liberals ..the media portrays it like thats public opinion until we go to the polls and prove it time and time again..this country is moderate conservative ..we care about our families ,jobs, and security..not about gay rights how we can help illegal aliens or save some stupid owls so what makes this blog incorrect as most things you say you need to look no further the your nominee the Lord Obama who is trying to play everyone like a fool like he always has done or is really waking up..because he is a total liberal I think its the same game Clinton ran on to get his second term..saying that he is moderate..this man is a total con man..and if he dose get elected youll see the congress go republican faster tan Obama changing his mind

I'm just back from vacation in the High Sierras, and the latest polls show Obama and McCain in a dead heat.
The Democrats should have higher numbers if the trend is so strongly towards liberalism. With G.W.'s current low approval rating, coupled with the bias in the media, the Dems should have the wind at their backs and be running away with this election, but that doesn't seem to be happening. What people say with their words doesn't always translate into what they say with their vote.

SILVER SPRING, Md. - Immigrant advocacy group Casa de Maryland is receiving a $1.5 million donation from Citgo Petroleum Corp., a subsidiary of Venezuela's national oil company that is overseen by President Hugo Chavez.

Kim Propeack, advocacy director for the Montgomery County-based group, said Monday it's the largest corporate donation the organization has received. The funds will be used to strengthen Casa's social service, small business and vocational training programs over the next three years.

Patrick Lacefield, a county spokesman, said that in 2007 county officials declined to interact with Venezuela after the Venezuelan government expressed interest in possibly funding some county programs.

Voododog I don't look at a close presidential race to find this information. Even when the Reagen revolution was begining Carter and him were in a dead heat until about a week before the election. What I am looking at is how people view the role of government, the social contract, and how people are disposed to the two parties. That is much more explanatory than a close presidential election which is common whether conservatism or liberalism is predominant. Especially in congress. Where if The Dems pick up as many seats as expected it will be a landslide of epic proportions. That more fairly shows a party and political ideologies popularity.

I view the world as I do not want to pay $10.00 for gas or $8,000 for a battery for a hybred car or over $6000 for solar panels and I want ever resource avalible instead of billions going to forein countries when drill here and now will oepne thousands of jobs and help the ecconomy. I also do not want our nukes disarmed and to sit around a camp fire sing I love you you love me. I want a secure country and a life I can afford.

the fact that the democrats will win as many seats is yet to be seen but even if they do as you say its not because people are wanting liberals its that Bush destroyed all credibility of the republican party..every time this happens its the American people sending a message if your not going to do the job we sent you to do will find someone else..it wouldn't matter what party it was ..thats what happened to Clinton and thats what happened to Bush..as for you medfrost shouldn't you be down at county jail visiting your family or did they already catch the bus upstate

Gallup Daily: McCain, Obama Remain Tied Each receives 44% of vote in latest update
Click here for Gallup's special roundup of July's important election polls.

PRINCETON, NJ -- Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are once again tied in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking presidential trial heat.

The results, based on a three-day rolling average of interviews conducted July 30-Aug. 1, show Obama and McCain each receiving 44% of the vote among registered voters. The candidates were also tied in Friday's update. Obama received a brief increase in support near the conclusion of his overseas trip last week, gaining a nine percentage point advantage in July 24-26 polling. But that bounce disappeared almost quickly as it emerged.

More broadly, Obama has enjoyed an average 3-point advantage since clinching the Democratic nomination in early June. McCain has erased that small advantage.

And that's with his ridiculous ass kissing groupies reporting on all the sunshine up his ass. (which they know intimately by now)

GO MCCAIN!

the polls mean nothing right now just away to get people interested lots of people haven't made up their minds yet...the vice presidential choice will really start the race as we will have an idea whats on each other candidates mind and where they are going ..by all rights Obama should be leading heavily so that tells you something is wrong there most hard core republican support always comes late but comes with a frenzy if so the fact McCain is even in this thing bodes real well for him..the fact that Obama is trying to distance himself from the liberal left is also hurting him..but like the right wing conservative the liberals will eventually vote for whoever at least leans to their side ..the independent vote will decide in a close election and they tend to be more conservative

Texas executes Mexican-born killer
By MICHAEL GRACZYK – 2 hours ago

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Texas has executed Mexican-born condemned prisoner Jose Medellin for the rape and murder of two teenage girls 15 years ago.

The state carried out the execution late Tuesday night after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his request for a reprieve in a split vote.

The 33-year-old Medellin had claimed he was denied treaty-guaranteed help from the Mexican consulate when he was arrested.

Texas authorities say he never invoked his consular rights until four years after he was arrested. By then, he had been convicted and condemned for participating in the attack on 16-year-old Elizabeth Pena and 14-year-old Jennifer Ertman.

C'mon all you Far-Leftist Radicals, let's shed a few tears for this nice young man who was just here seeking a better life for himself and his family...A shame they're splitting up his family...booo hooo hooo

Demboy,

I disagree with you on this topic, but I'm also aware that things might look a bit different in Wisconsin, and I'll take that into account too. But I will agree with you in that this is going to be interesting to see what happens in the next few months. My one concern is this: what kind of judges are going to be nominated to the Supreme Court? That is my big concern. The last thing we need as a nation is a nominee who will be an activist judge...that is always bad news for the public. I hope that whoever gets into office does not nominate a judge who will be prone to being an activist. Many people think that Obama will be more likely to nominate an activist judge, while McCain will be more likely to nominate a more conservative judge. We'll see what really happens in the next 4 years.

Oh, yes...I think the Democrats will be caught under an avalanche in November...but we'll see what really happens.

Well this blog is to discuss what political ideology will dominate this countries future. Now you all can be concerned but I did not really enter this ideologically this is just something I predict regardless of how the presidential campaign works out.

I am a Freshman at UW Madison. I believe in real solutions to real problems. I didn't see the Republicans offering any of them so I a gave the Democrats a chance to do something. I believe both parties are too polarized now to get things done so I think moderates are needed. I am a moderate liberal. I spent months deciding who to support in the presidential election but I finally have decided to vote for Senator Barrack Obama. I love studying world problems, playing tennis, playing video games and now blogging.
