State Wildlife Officials have been tossing around the "idea" of  a State run and managed hunting season on the Black Bears that have not been hunted in this state since 1994. Nearly every week, we are seeing and hearing stories about bears showing up in subdivisions, mall parking lots, school playgrounds, backyards and even in an occasional swimming pool. While Wildlife Conservationists and animal lovers cry, "Not fair! We took the bear's habitat, they were here first!" Lobbyist in favor of managed hunts don't disagree, but argue back, "It's  a little late to be thinking about that, once that subdivision is in place!" Now that their habitat has dwindled, bears have been forced to search for vittles outside the parameters of their normal dwelling. Bears who "offend" by showing up in populated areas are usually relocated, but research has PROVEN that "troublesome bears...often don't learn their lesson, and are likely to re-offend." That is, they return to the area they were removed from. When they do that, they are euthanized.

So really, what's better? Allowing the bears to cause traffic accidents, in order to "get to where they wanna go"  (usually totaling the vehicle-and injuring the occupants) continue to pose a threat to human beings by invading populated areas or allow a managed hunt, to "thin them back," so they won't HAVE to venture out of what's left of their habitat, in search of food?

I say allow Bear Hunting NOW, before someone, especially a CHILD is hurt or killed by a hungry bear, a Momma bear, protecting her cubs, or an aggressive male bear in search of a sow, during mating season!

PETA...People Eating Tasty Animals!!!!!

As long as it's controlled, I see no problem with it.

I almost hit a bear one night riding the motorcycle on SR44 East of I-4. I also recall a husband and wife killed a few years ago on their bike heading to Bike Week while traveling throught the Ocala National Forest when they hit a bear.

ADeltonian, You Smartazz! You posted while I was and I missed your remark, until just now! Wait until I catch up with you at THE Halloween Party! You won't see me comin', but Darlin', YOU WILL feel the sting of my switch!
LMLAO!
CynPro, If only, if only! Honey, I couldn't agree with you more! I don't hunt for "the sport" of killing. Not only does it literally put food on my family's table, it keeps the animals I hunt from starving to death, due to overpopulation, or from being a "nuisance" to society. I love animals; I have rescued many sick or injured wild animals, nursed them back to health and released them back into the wild. I have sat up all night with cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, calves and horses, keeping them covered and hydrated. There is nothing I hate worse than to see an animal (or person) suffer from an injury or sickness. Have you ever seen a bear after its been hit by a Ford F-350? I have, and it's horrific, sickening, and if you love animals like I do, it'll wreck your world! Hunting bears MAY save some from dying that way!

You were posting while I was "runnin' my mouth, er, fingers" FlaNative. I am SO GLAD
You didn't hit that bear! You probably wouldn't be here right now! I remember the couple who hit the one coming through the ONF, on Hwy 40.
THAT was an ugly wreck!

Frank, when we have our TOS get together, IF it's a BBQ, AND IF I have any bear meat, I PROMISE, I'll bring some, and turn ya'll on to it!
From a plane, FloridaBrit? That would be cheating! And scary, too! Too many trees! That
WOULD make a good Roadrunner / Coyote Cartoon,
I can see it now, Wiley Coyote is after RR, and, well, you get the idea! LMLAO!!!! Thank you for "understanding" the logic behind this.
I'ts NOT for the LOVE of killing, that I can promise you! Have you bought those youngun's (beautiful twin girls) a couple of ponies yet?

FloridaBrit, look at it this way, WHEN the one makes the Olympics, you'll live richly from all
the endorsements, WHEN the other becomes a world-famous scientist, she'll be so filthy rich, you'll never have to worry about how in God's name you're gonna pay your property taxes again! LOL! Keep me posted, I want to be able to say, "Oh, yeah? Well, I've known them nearly all their lives, so there!"
david, the trick is in the cooking method(s)! For the "roasts," or hams, I cook them just as you would a prime rib, or roast beef, the shoulders are made into burger, or sausage, the back strap, of course, is the most tender, and those are "little fillets," the ribs, we cook on the smoker. The hide gets made into a rug, we now have 2, those are HEAVY suckers, too. I actually keep them on beds, they cost too much to have tanned to "walk on"!

There's a place for all Gods creatures, next to the taters and gravy.

Well, God DID say that He put EVERYTHING on this Earth for us to "enjoy"....
And NO, those of you who like to take things out of context, and jumble them up, THAT does not include things that are sick, twisted and perverted!

david, Even "high quality" pork from the grocery store can contain trichinae, which will make ya sick as a dog, if you don't cook your pork chops all the way through! Here's something else, although not very common in the USA; have you ever heard of it?
Brucellosis (Brucella melitensis, abortus, suis, and canis)
(For comprehensive CDC information about bioterrorism and related issues, please visit http://www.bt.cdc.gov.)
What is brucellosis?
Brucellosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria of the genus Brucella. These bacteria are primarily passed among animals, and they cause disease in many different vertebrates. Various Brucella species affect sheep, goats, cattle, deer, elk, pigs, bears dogs, and several other animals. THIS will REALLY make you sick, and once you get it, you never REALLY get over it, it keeps coming back! It gives you horrible, horrible flu-like symptoms, for the REST OF YOUR LIFE!

Just remember Deborah, shooting a bear with head buried in a trash can is like shooting a deer in a corn feeder ! Not very sporting. LMAO You've already got that spot picked for you're new rug, huh ?

I love MOST people, especially children and old people, and I am especially offended when someone hurts one of them. "NEVER WRESTEL WITH PIGS, THE PIGS LIKE IT, AND YOU'LL JUST GET DIRTY!" Modified from a quote by my dear friend, jfore
