My Thoughts

by DVS11965 from Apopka

Last Post 19 days, 7 hours Ago

Why do people always have to tell me how they are going to cook the food they buy from me? Do they actually think I care?

I wanted to donate $500 worth of books to the Apopka Library, but I don't drive and I wanted them to pick them up from my house. I was told no, because the library has to hire out. I said why don't one of you come and pick them up, if I had a car I would bring them here. Again I was told no. Nice

Cats have sandpaper tongues

A leading sleep medication cautions you that there can be sleep walking, sleep eating and sleep driving. To me they sound like Quaaludes!

Whatever was in the air a few weeks ago to make people very nasty is gone. All week long the smiles were back, the laughter was sincere and the comments were funny by my customers. That's a good thing.

I like watching HOUSE and Becker. I like any show where the star actually tells people the truth as they see it, no matter if it's rude or not! Also, with Becker, I grew up with Bob. He was a kid in my neighborhood who had a terrible car accident and afterwards decided to get into acting. Xaverio was always a good kid.

Well my dog and cat's relationship has really changed since they started doing the nasty. They don't play as much and they groom each other a lot more. Also, when they fight, it gets nasty!

I saw a commercial for Cyber Knife - a cancer surgury treatment - on tv. Great, now even hospitals have commercials. If you really want me in your hospital, advertise an immediate access emergency room. Not a 4 hour wait whenever there's an emergency!!!

I saw a biography on Charles M Schultz "Peanuts" last night on PBS, and it reminded me of something I did as a kid. I wrote each and every author of the comics asking for an autograph, and he was the only one who responded! I wish I still had that picture of Snoopy with his signature.

It took me 4 times of seeing the Quiznos commercial with the guy who couldn't remember mmmmm before I could laugh. Oh well, I guess some things have to grow on ya.

This is a special Tuesday edition, because I won't be around for a while. Well, at least not until next week :) I also received 2 responses on my manuscript, both offering me deals. So I guess I will be published soon!

Thanks for reading, see ya next week!

Really awsome. Now the work begins really. I have to triple this in size, and choose a publisher. The ones I actually want, I haven't heard from yet.

Here is an excerp from a response I received. We have reviewed your submission and we are more then happy to accept you as one of our authors. Good material, enjoyed the read. We are sending you a contract, and you should read it over......

One thing I am wondering on this DVS, that I stated once on the mega blog.
The TOS states that anything posted here becomes the property of FOX.
Can you reproduce it elsewhere without thier explicit permission?

That is why I think your first offer, told you to stop posting the weekly A Few Thoughts.

You refused of course, but could that be a factor, and could that be why they insisted on that point?
Just a few thoughts....

Na, my writing is mine. I am not stealing it or anything else. I honestly believe the TOS is for the protection of the bloggers and not to exploit them. For instance, if you were to take my blogs and publish them, then Fox can step in.

The 1st offer I received wanted me to stop posting here because they said they wanted it exclusive. They didn't feel people would buy what they can get for free.

I belive the opposite. Case and point. The guy who wrote all those war stories as a 1 man reporter just wrote a book on those stories. It is predicted to be a best seller.

Right now, I am only being offered 1-5% of retail value, and they want to sell it for $9.95. So I would get .095 cents per sale. As the sales increase so does my royalties. I can get as much as .475 per book. I don;t think thats fair.

What I am afraid of is ending up like Jerry and George with the Show About Nothing. I don't want to haggle, so I am just going to wait until I hear from everyone I sent the manuscript out to. I will take the best offer.

At 9 cents per book, even if I sell 1,000,000 books lol dreaming - i will still only gross $95k....hmmm it doesn't sound to bad now...before it sounded like nothing lol. Oh that's because I was using 1,000 books - a more realistic goal, that's $95.

I think the publicity for the Blog if I actually decide to accept the offer, will more then compensate for anything I signed.

Well, in spite of the tremendous cost of producing a book, it seems a bit more than a penny a copy is in order here, as you did write the material.
If you could get Carlin to write a forward, it would boost the price. You should consider that as well, and send a copy of the manuscript to him as well.
Who knows, he might like it enough to buy it from you for a ton of money, and keep you on the payroll as a writer!
Just a few thoughts.

It might have been a good idea to post it here afterall, since it is dated, and you said it first. So it can be proven, but since it is not copyrighted I do not know how it would turn out in court.
I really don't know much about copyright rights, and non-copyrighted rights.
I think it is something you should check into for sure, as it would be a shame for all your work to be stolen, and nothing you can do legally to rectify it.
