WASHINGTON (AP) -- The senator overseeing Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony is writing to Internet sites like eBay asking them not to sell scalped inauguration tickets.

Senator Dianne Feinstein of California is also writing a bill that would make it a federal crime to scalp tickets to the historic event January 20.

Feinstein, who chairs the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, says she foresees overwhelming demand for the 240,000 available tickets and has heard reports of them being sold for as much as $40,000 online.

The tickets are supposed to be free to the public and distributed through congressional offices. The offices won't get the tickets until shortly before the inauguration, to try to prevent scalping.

Feel free to share your thoughts.

Happy Monday,
Corrina

I never got mine!!! Other than my brother who was at JFKs inauguration with the Second Division Marine Corp Band, I don't know anyone ever who was invited to that swearing in ceremony.
As for this upcoming ceremony, well, let's just say I wouldn't be there if they paid me. I am waiting for my check, how bout you?

Whatcha ya wanna bet that at least one former President scalps one of his tickets. It worked with the Lincoln bedroom, and with the Chinese.

Please pass regrets to Michele, being a witness to the demise of my beloved country is too depressing.

Rather odd really... You would actually have to PAY ME to be there... My question.. Are all the Black Panthers that were "security" at all the polling places going to be there too?

10 to 1 that if Feinstein gets a law to pass about scalping tickets, she'll tack on "pork" in the form of anti-gun laws
