BLUE ASH, Ohio (AP) -- Police in Ohio say an 89-year-old woman is facing a charge of petty theft because neighborhood children accuse her of refusing to give back their football.

Edna Jester was arrested last week in the Cincinnati suburb of Blue Ash. Police say one child's father complained that Jester kept the youngsters' ball after it landed in her yard. Police Capt. James Schaffer says there has been an ongoing dispute in the neighborhood over kids' balls landing in the woman's yard.

Jester said Monday she has received many calls and didn't have time to discuss the matter any more.

Jester is to appear in court next month. The maximum penalty for a petty theft conviction in Ohio is six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Think the possible punishment fits the crime in this case?

Happy Monday,

Corrina

Hi Corrina,
Did you enjoy your vacation?
No I do not think the possible punishment fits the crime. But on the other hand who does she think she is taking a ball from a child?

Just because the woman is 89 years old doesnt give her the right to steal other peoples property.

She is an old woman, though. Old people seem to like their yards clean and not have children. When I was a kid, the old lady across the street would take our toys and we had to get our parents to go over and get them back.

I think there is a lot more to the story than what we are told.. I don't like the kids hanging around here after some vandalism. Before that I was fine with them being around here. Just the part of saying it was an on going problem made me think of that.

That's too funny. When I was young we had a guy that did that all the time. He was just a grumpy old man. His wife however, was the sweetest thing you would ever meet. When grumpy died, she brought a huge box from their basement and gave them all back. It was hilarious.

Let the woman keep the ball...and stop throwing it in her yard....ya pesky kids...

She's probably fed up with the noise
and kids going into her yard or bothering her
every time they throw their ball in her yard.
It could also be aggregating if their ball
is landing in flower beds and hurting flowers.
It's her property, and since this is an ongoing
problem, and not just a once or twice occurrence,
I'm on the home owner's side.

I think that it's rediculous. When I was a child and that happened, WE got in trouble! Times certainly have changed and not for the better. It's all about respect. Children should be taught to respect other people and their property. She was probably afraid of damage to her property, gardens, lawns, windows, fences etc. This kept happening to my brother and the kids next door, instead of walking around to the other side of the yard and going thru the gate, kept pulling sections of his wooden fence apart to get their ball. Needless to say many sections of his fence were destroyed. When he went outside to talk to them about it they were very ignorant and rude and cursed him and told him to get back in his house and called him an old man! He's 48! On top of that, their Mother,(who is a corrections officer), called the police on my brother! When the police came they asked him if he wanted to press charges against them and he said no, but he wanted it stopped. It cost him quite a bit of money to replace the sections of fence that these teenage kids destroyed. Like I said, it's all about respect!
