Turning off the lights for an hour sounds easy, but organizers say it's tricky when dealing with tall buildings, ballparks and convention centers.
  
The shutdown began in Sydney with the Australian city's Opera House and Harbour Bridge going dark.
  
World Wildlife Fund spokeswoman Leslie Aun calls it a logistical challenge, especially because large parts of the major electrical systems aren't designed to be shut down.

How would he pull it off? I wondered.

How would Barack explain to his press groupies why he sat silent in a pew for 20 years as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright delivered racist rants against white America for our maligning of Fidel and Gadhafi, and inventing AIDS to infect and kill black people?

How would he justify not walking out as Wright spewed his venom about "the U.S. of K.K.K. America," and howled, "God damn America!"

My hunch was right. Barack would turn the tables.

Yes, Barack agreed, Wright's statements were "controversial," and "divisive," and "racially charged," reflecting a "distorted view of America."

But we must understand the man in full and the black experience out of which the Rev. Wright came: 350 years of slavery and segregation.

Barack then listed black grievances and informed us what white America must do to close the racial divide and heal the country.

The "white community," said Barack, must start "acknowledging that what ails the African-American community does not just exist in the minds of black people; that the legacy of discrimination -- and current incidents of discrimination, while less overt than in the past -- are real and must be addressed. Not just with words, but with deeds ... ."

And what deeds must we perform to heal ourselves and our country?

The "white community" must invest more money in black schools and communities, enforce civil rights laws, ensure fairness in the criminal justice system and provide this generation of blacks with "ladders of opportunity" that were "unavailable" to Barack's and the Rev. Wright's generations.

What is wrong with Barack's prognosis and Barack's cure?

Only this. It is the same old con, the same old shakedown that black hustlers have been running since the Kerner Commission blamed the riots in Harlem, Watts, Newark, Detroit and a hundred other cities on, as Nixon put it, "everybody but the rioters themselves."

Was "white racism" really responsible for those black men looting auto dealerships and liquor stories, and burning down their own communities, as Otto Kerner said -- that liberal icon until the feds put him away for bribery.

Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.

Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.

This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the '60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black applicants over white applicants.

Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?

Barack talks about new "ladders of opportunity" for blacks.

Let him go to Altoona and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for "deserving" white kids.

Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena. And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.

I have offered to accept a job with Fox 10 writing headlines.  Again and again headlines on the board are rife with misspellings, incorrect words, and/or grammatical atrocities.  Make me an offer.

Oh, by the way, the plural of crisis is "crises."  There's no such word as "crisises", although I'm sure that the literate members of the board got a laugh out of it.

I've been following the story on WKYC about Hope Steffey, the woman who was arrested and "strip searched" (according to WKYC). WKYC's slogan is "Report the Facts. Respect the Truth." Yet, they are doing neither in this twisted, slanted story. They are pandering to the plantiffs in a civil lawsuit, and they are smearing the Sheriff's Office. I hope the sheriff sues WKYC.

The FACTS and the TRUTH: Police were called regarding a family fight. When they arrived, they began to interview the parties.  Hope Steffey then provided the officers with "her" indentification...which was determined to be her dead sister's driver's license.  Providing false ID is a crime.  When the officer refused to return the license, Steffey ATTACKED him and tried to take the license from him.  She became abusive and hysterical.  She refused to calm down, and was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Upon reaching the jail, Steffey continued to scream and shout demands.  As is routine, deputies asked Steffey if she had thoughts of hurting herself.  Steffey replied something to the effect of "now or later?"

As is policy in virtually EVERY jail in America, if a prisoner even hints that they may be thinking of harming themselves, they are put on "suicide watch."  "Suicide watch" means that their clothing is removed, and they are put into a special cell with absolutely nothing they can use to jarm themselves.  They are then observed every few minutes and the visits are logged.  This policy has reduced jail suicides to virtually none.

Steffey was asked to disrobe.  She refused.  Women deputies then attempted to disrobe her.  Steffey violently resisted to the point that the female officers asked for assistance from male officers.  Steffey was then placed into the suicide watch cell.

WKYC continues to claim that Steffey was "strip searched."  That's a complete lie.  WKYC continues to call Steffey a "victim."  Steffey changed her status from victim to suspect when she provided a fake ID and then attacked a police officer.

WKYC quotes Steffey, her husband, and their attorney as if their word is gospel...while brazenly accusing the sheriff's office of lying.  Thanks to the support of WKYC, the Steffey's and their ambulance-chasing lawyers are hoping to profit from Steffey's tantrum via a lawsuit against the county.

WKYC's reprehensible twisting of this story is why in polls people put the integrity of the news media below even that of personal injury lawyers.  This is pure sleazy sensationalism coupled with lies being foisted off on the public by WKYC. 

In order to keep the "story" going and cause as much damage as they can, WkYC is trying to get the U.S. Justice Department and the state Attorney General involved.  I call that "creating the news."  Pure sleaze.

Come on, Grinch 10, the "holiday" people are shopping for is CHRISTMAS.  Would it really pain you so much to say so?  I thought you were supposed to be the "conservative" station?  Why are you so obsessed with not offending a handful of atheists and Muslims...but willing to thumb your nose at 90% of your viewers who are offended by the generic "holidays" crap?

Does the management of Grinch 10 read these blogs?  Easily 90% of the bloggers (who are your loyal viewers) have stated in these blogs that they are offended by your "happy holidays" jingles, "holiday lights" articles, and "holiday shopping" articles.  Yet, you persist.

I thought Fox 10 has dispensed with the offensive and demeaning "holiday lights" crap.  Apparently, someone failed to notify your pandering, liberal story editor. Please let this misguided person know that the ONLY holiday for which people decorate their houses is CHRISTMAS.  Please stop offending the majority of your viewers. These are CHRISTMAS lights.  Thank you.

- A lot of you may have put up holiday lights to get more into the spirit. But while they look great, you need to be careful when you have them up... especially outside. FOX 10's Marc Martinez talked with one expert, who has some advice on how to keep you and your family safe

What's wrong with the management of Fox 10 and 99.9 KEZ??  Why do they insist upon offending their viewers and listeners this way?  This board proves that 95% of people HATE the way that liberal handwringers are obsessed with destroying Christmas.  I'm ashamed of Fox 10 and 99.9 KEZ for jumping on the anti-Christmas bandwagon.

"Holiday lights"?  WHAT are "holiday lights"?  Does anyone put up lights for New Years?  None of my Jewish friends put up lighted trees and colored lights on their houses for Channukah.  Do you put lights on your house for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day?  Groundhog Day??

No, there's only ONE day that's observed by decorating trees and houses with colored lights.  That day is CHRISTMAS.

There's only ONE official and traditional national holiday in the month of December.  That holiday is CHRISTMAS.

So, what is Fox 10 and 99.9 KEZ afraid is going to happen if they dump the political correctness and acknowledge that they've posted a map of CHRISTMAS LIGHTS?

Marlo Thomas wants holiday shoppers to set aside a little of the money they're spending on holiday shopping and donate it to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by her father, Danny Thomas.

"So many moms and dads come up to me and say that their child wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for St. Jude. Not just because of the research that we're doing there, but because they couldn't have afforded it," Thomas said in a segment recorded for "This Week" on ABC and aired on Sunday.

"When people go out shopping, they should look for the green magnifying glass. It signifies that we never stop looking for cures. And when the associate at the store says, 'Would you like to add something for the kids at St. Jude?', add something. Add $1, add $2. Add whatever you can afford," she said.

Thomas, 67, is married to Phil Donahue. She starred in the 1960s TV series "That Girl" and had a recurring role on "Friends."

I see that the HOV lanes are being questioned, and Fox 10's latest poll is asking whether we should keep them or not.

I'm not positive, but I believe that the HOV lanes are tied to federal funding, and we have to have them or lose federal handouts.

Regardless, I find HOV lanes annoying.  They are supposed to be "carpool" lanes, but I venture to guess that only 5% of people using them are actually carpooling.  You only need to have two people in your car to be considered a high-occupancy vehicle.  Was the lane REALLY intended for a mom with a baby in a car seat?  How about a pickup truck with two contractors riding in the cab?

Worse, I often see about 1/3 of the vehicles in the HOV lanes containing only one person.  These are people who view the law abiding as chumps.  They are grown-up spoiled brats who think that any advantage they can get over others means they are smarter than you.

HOV lane violations carry a $365 fine.  And the police do not give "warnings" for the offense.  We use unmarked patrol cars, and even unmarked "aggressive driver" cars to enforce the HOV lane law.  An "aggressive driver" car is an unmarked Mustang, Camaro, or Firebird with dark-tinted windows that looks like an ordinary car...until it lights up like a Christmas tree with red and blue flashing strobe lights.

If we're going to keep the HOV lanes, we need to quadruple the number of DPS officers writing those $365 tickets.  Maybe we need to put the fine back up to $600 where it once was.  Like most cops, I enjoy nothing more than giving an expensive ticket to scofflaws who think the law doesn't apply to them.  If you like to drive illegally in the HOV lane,  I hope we meet one day soon. I have a trunk full of ticket books.

I'll bet $100 that if the suspects in this burglary are caught, they will turn out to be black.  This crime occurred in a minority neighborhood to a single woman known to be gone during the day.  I wonder if the media who trumpeted "HATE CRIME!" all over the airwaves will feel foolish.  Nah.

Litchfield Park Area Family Targeted in Hate Crime

 

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a hate crime and burglary of a home near the community of Litchfield Park. Wednesday, the sheriff's office says a 25-year-old mother returned to her home to find it burglarized. The burglars also left behind racial slurs and epithets written on the interior walls of the home. The victim is black and has lived in the home for several years.

So, Salvadore Reza has now set himself up as "spokesman" for illegal aliens, and has organized protests outside the Pruitt's store on Thomas Rd. near 36th Street.  Apparently, Pruitt's had enough of the illegals loitering in their parking lot and harassing their customers, so they called the Sheriff's Office.  Now, Reza and his motley minions have vowed to protest outside the store every Saturday until Christmas. Reza managed to get about 100 rag-tag

Isn't that just dandy.  A haggard old fart wants the limelight, so he sets himself up as spokesman for lawbreakers and criminals.  He's not only demanding that his little crew be allowed to CONTINUE to break the law, he wants to punish Pruitt's for being good citizens and reporting the illegal activity.  Reza is now costing the taxpayers thousands of dollars in overtime for the dozens of Phoenix Police officer and Maricopa County deputy sheriff's who must be present to keep the peace.

Reza and his ilk just don't seem to realize that all they accomplish with these antics is a backlash against illegal aliens.  The nationwide "protests" held last year are the sole reason for the the defeat of the bill that would have given them a form of amnesty.  It's the sole reason for the defeat last week of the DREAM Act.  It's the reason why law enforcement agencies all over the U.S. are beginning to cooperate with ICE in identifying and deporting illegal aliens.  They have awakened a sleeping giant in the American people. 

And, I want to add, the Americans who want to be rid of illegal aliens include the vast majority of HISPANIC Americans.

Reza accused Sheriff Arpaio of attempting to "create a climate of fear" in the illegal alien community.  God, I hope so!  It's about time that lawbreakers were looking over their shoulders and listening for a knock on the door.  For too many years illegals have operated with impugnity in the U.S.....driving without driver's licenses or insurance, stealing people's identities, using counterfeit documents, using taxpayer-funded hospitals as free clinics, bankrupting our schools, overloading our justice system, and shooting our police officers. "A climate of fear"?  IT'S ABOUT TIME!

As for Pruitt's, I have been shopping there for many years.  I bought my very first couch there when I got married.  I now have two kids, and we're still using the couch.  I bought a beautiful all oak (absolutely no particle board) entertainment wall from Pruitt's for $500.  Every other store in the Valley wanted $1000 to $1500 for a similar item.  I have recommended Pruitt's to all my relatives and friends.  My mother shops at Pruitt's. I recommend it to the readers of this blog.  Shop there.  Preferably on Saturdays. 

Poll Do you think the feds are doing a better job of responding to natural disasters? Yes No

Do you think your poll writer could stop making loaded polls like this?  This is like asking "have you stopped beating your wife yet?"  The question pre-supposes that the feds typically do a bad job of responding to disasters.

The poll looks like it was designed to perpetuate the liberal lie that the feds were slow to respond to hurricane Katrina.  While I'm no fan of the federal government, the truth is that the feds were rescuing people along the Gulf coast before the hurricane's winds had even died down.  The response was the fastest in history to a natural disaster...faster than for any of the hurricanes to hit Florida. 

During the aftermath of Katrina, the media was reporting that "thousands are feared dead" and even "tens of thousands may have been killed."  The FACT that only a few hundred actually died is solely due to the fast and extensive action by the federal government.

The "feds were slow" lie was created as yet another way to smear the president.  It's leftwing propaganda.  I expect better than that from Fox News.

 

The following article from the Washington Post is frightening.  It's frightening because it demonstrates the fascist mentality of some house Democrats who are perfectly willing to use the power of the federal government to persecute and harass innocent people in furtherance of their political dogma.

Some facts about the Jena 6 incident:

1.  Hanging nooses in a tree, not directed at any individual is NOT A CRIME.  It is Constitutionally protected speech, not unlike the burning of a flag.  The Democrats in this article want to IGNORE the Constitution and charge the kids with some yet-to-be-determined federal crime. 

2.  Mychal Bell's brutal assault on a boy in school had nothing whatsoever to do with the noose incident, which happened many months prior. 

3.  Bell being charged as an adult had nothing whatsoever to do with "racism."  It was due to the fact that Bell is a recidivist sociopath who had already been convicted THREE TIMES before for physically assaulting people.  Bell was on probation for assault at the time he brutally kicked and stopped the unconscious boy in the head.

Sheila Jackson Lee and John Conyers are examples of everything that's wrong with our government.  These two want to wield federal power like a WEAPON to smite those they hate.  They are self-serving and they spit on the Constitution.  They are dangerous, frightening people.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic lawmakers denounced federal authorities Tuesday for not intervening in the Jena Six case, citing racist noose-hanging incidents far beyond the small Louisiana town where a school attack garnered national attention.

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing with federal officials and community activists examining the case of the six black teenagers charged with the beating of a white student. The incident happened after nooses were hung from a tree on a high school campus there - a symbol of the lynching violence of the segregation era.

Democratic lawmakers, many of them black, blasted federal authorities for staying out of the local prosecutor's case against the six, particularly that of Mychal Bell, who is currently in jail after a judge decided he violated the terms of his probation for a previous conviction.

"Shame on you," Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, said to Justice Department officials, directing most of her fury at Donald Washington, the U.S. attorney for Louisiana's western district - and the first black person to hold that position.

"As a parent, I'm on the verge of tears," Jackson Lee said.

"Why didn't you intervene?" she asked repeatedly, raising her voice and jabbing her finger in the air as some in the audience began to applaud.

Committee chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., called for quiet before Washington spoke.

"I was also offended, I too am an African-American," Washington told the panel. "I did intervene, I did engage the district attorney. At the end of the day, there are only certain things that the United States attorney can do."

Following that exchange, Conyers pointed out he had invited the local district attorney, Reed Walters, to testify, but he declined. At that, some in the audience yelled out, "subpoena him!"

Since the Jena case made headlines, there have been a number of other nooses found in high-profile incidents around the country - in a black Coast Guard cadet's bag, on a Maryland college campus, and, last week, on the office door of a black professor at Columbia University in New York.

The Department of Justice has created a task force to handle noose-hanging investigations in five states. It investigated the Jena matter but decided not to prosecute because the federal government typically does not bring hate crimes charges against juveniles, Washington said.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, a New York-based civil rights activist, said there was unfairness in a criminal justice system that declined to charge white students for a hate crime because they are minors, but initially chose to charge the six teens in the beating case as adults.

"These nooses were hung over a year ago sir. So I know that the wheels of justice turn slow, but they seem to be at a standstill," said Sharpton. "That's why we're seeing nooses all over America."

The senior Republican on the panel, Lamar Smith of Texas, said, "more than anything what we need is an effort to reduce racial tension... What we do not need is stoking racial resentment."

Last week, a judge sentenced Bell to 18 months in jail after a judge determined he violated the terms of his probation for a previous conviction.

Racial tensions began rising in Jena in August 2006 after a black student sat under a tree known as a gathering spot for white students. Three white students later hung nooses from the tree. They were suspended by the school but not prosecuted.
