"Slacktivism" (alternative spelling "slactivism") is a fusion of the words "slacker" and "activism," and UrbanDicationary.com defines it as "the act of participating in obviously pointless activities as an expedient alternative to actually expending effort to fix a problem."

It refers to ersatz acts that people perform that they have somehow come to believe are full of meaning, like slapping a magnetic ribbon on your car to "support the troops," wearing a colored rubber wristband to "fight cancer," or refusing to buy gasoline on a certain day to protest high gas prices, instead of, say, actually changing your lifestyle to use less gas.

Are you a Slacktivist?

Being one who actively avoids contact with others unless it's necessary, i.e. work, shopping etc.
I try to do as little traveling as possible. I even cut down on my hunting in order to cut my costs, so I would have to say I am no slacker in this case.

Have you?

I suppose that one could argue that we (bloggers) are all Slacktivists. And in truth I suppose that more often than not, I talk the talk more than I walk the walk. So sue me.

garageman your candor is refreshing. I didn't think to look at it that way, but you're right as rain.

Am I slacktivist? Yes I am Mr. Colbydog. It is proven every time we debate.

Well the presidential erection cycle has begun.... the first one in more than 50 yrs with no incumbents running in either party.... also the most obviously influenced by the media who have winnowed the runners to their favorites.... even before the Iowa Caucus. Have both parties sold out to Big Media and Multinationals? Does anyone in the US care? Is anyone paying attention? Lets hope people are doing more than watching TV to form their opinion. The stakes are becoming incredibly high in this rapidly globalized world... where decisions made now effect the entire planet and all its inhabitants... Are you paying attention?
