In an interview yesterday with NBC's Kelly O'Donnell, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) dismissed criticism of his ignorant claims that Iranian operatives are “taking al-Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back" by saying he corrected it immediately." I don't claim that I won't misspeak on occassion, but I will correct it immediately," said McCain.

When asked if it's a fair question to wonder if it was more than simply a slip of a tongue, McCain replied that "to think that I would have some lack of knowledge about Sunni and Shia after my eighth visit and my deep involvement in this issue is a bit ludicrous."

But that is EXACTLY the case... he is completely ignorant of war politics and has shown himself to be nothing more than a puppet to Bush's handlers.

And unlike the media spinmeisters who are on all channels damning Obamas speech and his pastor's comments.... with THEIR Spin taken by manufacturing snippets of the speeches... you can actually watch McCain's full and obviously completely clueless comments yourself and make up your own minds....

sure, the media has a liberal bias... as seen through its radical right wing agenda!

Watch it:

Just as McCain’s initial assertion about Iran training al Qaeda was false, his claim that he “corrected it immediately” is also false. In fact, McCain made the claim at least three times on two separate occasions. He corrected himself only after the third utterance when Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) whispered in his ear.

and we're supposed to make HIM commander and chief!!!???

What, with Cheney as his VP?

watch here

Today McCain was once again bailed out by Lieberman for making yet another moronic statement showing how little he really knows about the world. What will the Mainstream Corporate Media do? say he slipped up AGAIN... for the fifth time?

Mr. ColbyDog:

You clearly don't like McCain. I also have issues with him, but, I am sure for dramatically different reasons.

So what is your take on the recent statments by the Reverend Wright, Obama's Pastor? Is the "Mainstream Corporate Media" as you call it, at this point beating up unduly on Obama and his Pastor?

you also stated: the media has a liberal bias... as seen through its radical right wing agenda!

You have GOT to be kidding??? That statement in and of itself shows you to be likely be of a mindset so far to the left that it is difficult to grant anything you say with any degree of intellectual credibility.

first one has to contrast the "liberal" media's take on Rev Hagee's crazy views of reality and the fact that no one seems to have problems questioning McCain's credibility as he wholeheartedly SOUGHT the endorsement.

then contrast it with the insane coverage spent by this "liberal" media ... NOT airing obama's speech, but rather airing snippets between hours of the VIEWS of such "liberal" luminaries as Karl Rove, Tom Delay, Ken Blackwell, William Kristol, and Frank Luntz to name just a few!

Obama's speech has been dissected and re-stitched into a frankenstein monster by the experts of misinformation.... and you don't see a problem with that???

In fact you feel compelled to defend their deception rather than watching the entire speech-in context and making your own judgement?

secondly, in defense of both ministers, in case you've never been to a house of worship... the sermon is a time when the speaker is given to motivate, stir and otherwise challenge the congregation. If you stoop to the loathsome and unethical practices of the propaganda ministers on "liberal" TV, you can take gandhi, the pope, buddha and christ himself and spin them into terrorists.

So tell me, is this how you demonstrate your intellectual prowess??? By listening to the VIEWS of NEOCONS and regurgitating them as if they were gospel?

Who's the real minister of propaganda here? Listen to Obama's words... all of them... in order. Then speak to me with your dose of truth, cuz right now all I read is propaganda turned into fear and hate.

Mr. ColbyDog:

I have listed to Mr. Obama a number of times for the full speach, watched him debate, visited his website and considered his proposals, and have come to some of the conclusions below:

1) He can good a good speach. I have done alot of public speaking in my professional background and recognize his skill.

2) He has stated that he is in favor of Capitalism, yet, chooses government run solutions vs market solutions. (Healthcare for example)

3) He has been intellectually consistent with Iraq. Against it from the start. However, he doesn't seem to believe that there is any real threat posed to this country by Islamic Fascism and in fact believes that most of the worlds problems have been caused directly or indirectly by our government, our capitalist system, or the belief that all men and women have the right to live in personal, and political freedom. In summary: "If we would just all come together and sing happy songs, we could all get along."

Many of these views do seem to mirror the views of his pastor, specific inflammatory, and racial comments aside.

And Colbydog, one more thing: Happy Easter!

you do this blog well with your thoughtful discussions...

Your conclusions here while concise and well formulated, echo the fear-based propaganda that has droned from our "liberal" media for seven years-and what has it gotten us?

I know you mean well and have looked hard at the issues, but am afraid, you look with eyes and ears that have only heard Islamic Fascism, Capitalism means less government, obama is shallow, problems caused by our actions...

If you are truly to participate in the political process, you need to question authority... not just the government, but where does authority exist in your framework of thinking? Who carries authority these days? Mainstream Media no longer provides news... they provide topics and give you their views... how is this not like propaganda. Yesterday on FOX the station was all abuzz about the breaking news of Obama giving a short speech before taking off to St Thomas with his family for easter... after much hype, the Senator began his speech... no sooner than the first sound bite they could capture that fed their views was uttered, and they cut the sound and began with their comments and spin. Meanwhile he's onscreen right behind them telling the people more about his background and ambitions.... the very stuff these spinsters tell us he withholds.... not what I call news.

But this is corporate-run media... so its no wonder most Americans -even when they try to do due diligence, still come up echoing views rather than discussing the news.

The following -- as written by adoseoftruth -- is pure hogwash; which is why there's no verification provided:

Mr. Ifilus, Mr. Colbydog:

This is Mr. Obama's complete Foreign Policy plan as stated on his website:

BARACK OBAMA’S PLAN TO SECURE AMERICA AND RESTORE OUR STANDING
“When I am this party's nominee, my opponent will not be able to say that I voted for the war in Iraq; or that I gave George Bush the benefit of the doubt on Iran; or that I supported Bush-Cheney policies of not talking to leaders that we don't like. And he will not be able to say that I wavered on something as fundamental as whether or not it is ok for America to torture — because it is never ok… I will end the war in Iraq… I will close Guantanamo. I will restore habeas corpus. I will finish the fight against Al Qaeda. And I will lead the world to combat the common threats of the 21st century: nuclear weapons and terrorism; climate change and poverty; genocide and disease. And I will send once more a message to those yearning faces beyond our shores that says, "You matter to us. Your future is our future. And our moment is now.”

I stand by what is my opinion, based on his words and actions as a US Senator.

You will note that he does not mention what we really must defend ourselves against: the desire by many of those in the Muslim world to engage in a global jihad against all non-believers--otherwise known as Islamic Fascism. He mentions terrorism, and Al Queda, but, fails to address what he believes are the goals of the terrorists and Al Queda, and how to defeat them on a global scale. There really can be no debate about what their global goals are, as they tell us quite often. But it is hard to defeat any enemy when you don't understand them and their purpose.

"Finishing the fight against Al Queda" seems to simplistic to me as Al Queda is one group, among many others which share a larger, common goal.

And the last comments: You matter to us. Your future is our future. And our moment is now.”

Don't you get a nice warm fuzzy feeling from it???

I must correct myself:

I did not copy and paste the entire plan with more details as it all won't fit into one of these posting:

The complete website is:

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/foreignpolicy/

I haved read through the entire plan, and have not found one direct, or indirect reference of, or to Islamic Fascism.

If anybody out there does, please advise as I will be happy to be corrected.

Thanks!

Better than "If you ain't with us, you're against us."

And where's the part about "singing happy songs?"

Mr. Ifilus,

Where's your sense of humor??????

I feel wonderful knowing that Mr. Obama cares not just for Americans, but for all the citizens of the world and that he would enage in a foreign policy aimed at taking care of as many people on the shores of far away lands as possible. Heck, I feel like sing KUM BY YA right know. Don't you??

In case you all didn't read about it, during a segment on Good Morning America, Cheney flatly told White House correspondent Martha Raddatz that he doesn’t care about the American public’s views on the war:

CHENEY: On the security front, I think there’s a general consensus that we’ve made major progress, that the surge has worked. That’s been a major success.

RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting.

CHENEY: So?

RADDATZ So? You don’t care what the American people think?

CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.

This opposition to the war is not a “fluctuation” in public opinion. The American public has steadily turned against the war since the 2003 invasion. According to a new CNN poll, just 36 percent of the American public believes that “the situation in Iraq was worth going to war over — down from 68 percent in March 2003, when the war began.

this joker makes yes-man bush seem like a decider!

McCain can barely speak and when he does he sounds like an old man on valium.
Hence, the reason he needs Leiberman around to correct him when he "misspeaks".
I do admire him for being a P.O.W. and making it back home, but the man is past his prime and not leadership material.
Of course, neither is Bush.

Welcome Katbird,

I would point out a couple of things regarding your Bush-bashing posts.

It should come as absolutely no suprise that any poll done by CNN came up with that result.
(Mr. Colbydog will no doubt argue that CNN is in fact a part of the liberal bias towards the right wing agenda)
I, a conservative, would very much like to see all of our troops back home victoriously and with the thanks of a grateful nation ASAP. However, our politicians, both Republican and Democrats are elected to above all else, do what is in the best interests of this country. Doing what is "popular" does not make it necessarily the right decision. I have no doubt that should such opinion polls would have been taken during 1941-1942 would have shown that the American public would have wanted the conflict ended ASAP as well. (1941-1942 were not very good years militarily for the Allies with casualty levels that would be appalling with todays mindset)

And more Halliburton stuff?!. Come on Progressives, let it go, find something else, you can do better than that

Speaking of mis-speaking, (and I do grant you that Mr. McCain is, well.......... old) catch the Hillary "mis-quote" of the day? Frankly, it doesn't bother me, but, it is fun.

Hello adoseoftruth,

Amazing how we all have different truths. I am neither Democrat nor Republican. I believe both parties have the same agenda and it has nothing to do with what the people really want. I believe it has been a long, long time since the politicians have run the government as it was meant to be.
This "war" can not be compared to WWII, or WWI for that matter. Hitler gave the world reason enough to stop him. He was obviously a dictator intent on taking over the world. I would never argue Hitler had to be stopped.
This war is over oil and control of a region. Our soldiers are dying for oil and control. To me, those are not valid reasons to die. To me, this war has nothing to do with protecting America or any other country for that matter.
You wouldn't like my opinions.
You wouldn't agree with what I believe is going on in our government.
Thank you for your opinions though and no need to welcome me to this blog. I've been on here since 2006.
So, welcome to you and I look forward to reading more of your opinions.

Well the presidential erection cycle has begun.... the first one in more than 50 yrs with no incumbents running in either party.... also the most obviously influenced by the media who have winnowed the runners to their favorites.... even before the Iowa Caucus. Have both parties sold out to Big Media and Multinationals? Does anyone in the US care? Is anyone paying attention? Lets hope people are doing more than watching TV to form their opinion. The stakes are becoming incredibly high in this rapidly globalized world... where decisions made now effect the entire planet and all its inhabitants... Are you paying attention?
