Wisconsin recently went to the polls to decide who would represent their Party in November. At least that’s what’s supposed to happen in a primary election. But that day, the first major primary after SuperTuesday, after Republicans narrowed to the field to one candidate, something far more insidious and destructive happened. In large numbers, Republican voters "decided" to mischief-vote for Hillary because she might be easier to beat in November!

Yep, these days that’s Republican for Democracy—win at any cost, screw the will of the people, lie, cheat, steal —whatever it takes to keep in office. Oh, and do it wrapped in a flag wearing your lapel-pin with your hand cross your heart, mouthing the words to the national anthem.

Hypocrites! Wisconsin Republicans, following WTMJ radio host Charlie Sykes' scheme to destabilize the democratic process (alright I'm giving Sykes too much credit) chose to be as unethical as the very leadership we have all grown to dislike.

SO the question is, just because its not illegal to spoil the will of the people and cheat on your right to vote, don't you find it morally, ethically and patriotically wrong to cheat the nation out of its Constitutional right to elect the government of its majority? Did our grandparents use an unwritten code of conduct, ethic... a moral standard or did they need laws and rules to govern every action they could possibly do?

Is it any wonder our nation is in the condition it is? Economically strapped, divided ideologically and financially, acting like an imperial aggressor, condoning treason, torture, spying, kidnapping and gross human rights abuses on a global scale, this cancer that permeates our government has now spread down to its citizens.

Today as many Wisconsinites took "hot-showers" to cleanse from their mischief-vote, they began the practice in this election of undermining the will of the people and Democracy itself. Transforming the vote into a game like Fear-Factor or the Apprentice—win at any cost, damn the rules or ethical behavior, Democracy has been turned into a phoney pay-per-view wrestling sideshow event.

Sure it has been done before... historically more often and effectively by GOP voters-look it up- but today, as we all seem to object to the corruption in government, how can we justify condoning it through our actions?

Democracy is not a game. Our right to vote is not to be treated with such disrespect. The right to vote is our most sacred institution yet we treat it like a street beggar. Ask any foreigner what they admire most about the US... it is our right to vote. Freedom to choose.

Even though mischief voting Wisconsin Republicans stole delegates from Obama, the fact that he still handed Hillary a considerable defeat, speaks volumes about the will of the people. Do you think the cancerous practice of cross-voting should be denounced by our media, or condoned?

Are you alright with people becoming accomplices in the corruption we all despise in our government? Would our great-grandparents be proud of our behavior?

Your post makes this sound as though it's some new political maneuver, when - in fact - it has been going on for many years. The crossover vote is certainly nothing that just happened for the first time in Wisconsin and it won't be the last time it happens, either.

That dog just don't hunt.

Colby,

You are under the false impression that people vote FOR a candidate to win. I don't know when the last time was that I actually voted FOR someone, usually its more a vote AGAINST someone. In this case they are voting AGAINST Obama, with the hope that in the general election if it Clinton and McCain that many will vote AGAINST Clinton by voting for McCain. Not so much that they like McCain but that they don't like Clinton.

Colby, I agree with you that what we are seeing is not what we aspire to be as a free and democratic union. But let's be a little more practical about what this election process is really about.
The election of president every four years is in fact a "revolution" and a "civil war" to either depose the king and/or appoint a new one.
Instead of killing one another, we fight armed with words and civil actions that sometimes are unethical and even immoral...such is war, such is a civil revolution.
Rather than condemn this process, embrace it as a good thing. War cleanses and brings forth many changes. Survival of the fittest ideas and beliefs.

Wow! When the tactic doesn't work in the favor for a Demo it must be denounced. But, when done successfully for a Dem candidate it's never mention our discussed. Never happened.

Who do you think Republicans learned the tactic from? At least you won't find dead people, criminals, and illegals voting (voter fraud) in elections for Rep. You won't find polling stations in Rep districts staying open past hours to allow more Reps to vote.

Why you think the DNC is fighting the ID law in Illinios. Cause it's not in favor of the Demo tatics my friend. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I'm not certain your assertion is accurate, I research it and in the past 30 years, though both sides participated, it was started by the GOP and continues to be most effective when used by them... largely because they demand conformity - herd mentality- more than the Dems... not necessarily a bad thing, unless its misguided... like the current administration.

About Voter ID, you think denying people the vote is okay? Poll taxes next? Just cuz a larger portion of the low income voter block is democratic does not permit the wealthy from excluding them through barriers... are liberty and rights commodities only given to those someone deems worthy?

Voter ID isn't about denying legitimate voters the right to vote. Its about denying people that don't have that right, like non-citizens or felons. It also is there to prevent voter fraud in having the same person or a dead person vote multiple times in different locations. Proving you are a citizen is easy, look at how many illegals do it.

Another thought on voter id. Poor people have the necessary IDs otherwise they wouldn't be able to cash their welfare check or get food stamps.. You have to prove who you are to do both of those.

well Colby in 2000 the democrats were "trading" votes in a very similar situation, did you complain about it then? Besides isn't that what voting is all about, to cast your vote for your will. If you you want Hillary to run instead of Obama don't you have that right? To be honest this country is in big trouble if either of them wins, but heck I'd vote for Hillary just to keep Obama out of office if it came down to it.

My point is that just because it isn't a law, doesn't make it right... you can't pinch a girls behind, or blow spitballs at people in public places... theres no law but it ain't right.

Our right to vote should be held in some reverence- don't you think? Certainly folks from other nations revere our vote as their most sacred wish... to be able to have a vote that matters?

When you are dishonest and deliberately try to sabotage the will of others... are you not behaving badly? Have we no morals anymore?

There should not be any law restricting how we can vote... it would violate a person's right to switch.

But abuse of your vote... cheating... is something Americans and just good people, used to pride themselves in.... guess not any more?

too bad... we don't deserve the privilege.

Me, I'd scold anyone in earshot that took their right to vote so dishonorably... its just not polite, honest, or respectful of your nation.

honor the rights and freedoms granted to everyone... what gives anyone the right to sabotage the will of the people? Does anyone wish we were a better example of democracy to the world... well put your foot down when you see others misuse their privilege.

Interesting treatise. I question the truth of your premise. First, it attributes too much "care" on the part of the voters. Voters, in general, don't get that deep in thought. Second, voters "want" to express their feelings by their vote. Yes, I'm sure that there are a pertisan few who might think along the lines that you are suggesting, but to think that the people in general are that interested is absurd.

Disinterest and apathy are the sad issues, not the "mischief voting" that you suggest. The winners are indeed the winners and the losers are indeed the losers. Be far more concerned about ballot box rigging et cetera than attributing dishonesty to the American voter. The shame belongs on the politicians, not on the voters.

I think it is wrong - but don't think it was just Republicans. BOTH sides are doing the crappola.

It is the 2 party system that is broken. To much power and to much money.

Oh and Obama will win regardless. The racial component is way to big at this stage to let Clinton win. The party would never allow it.

Well the presidential erection cycle has begun.... the first one in more than 50 yrs with no incumbents running in either party.... also the most obviously influenced by the media who have winnowed the runners to their favorites.... even before the Iowa Caucus. Have both parties sold out to Big Media and Multinationals? Does anyone in the US care? Is anyone paying attention? Lets hope people are doing more than watching TV to form their opinion. The stakes are becoming incredibly high in this rapidly globalized world... where decisions made now effect the entire planet and all its inhabitants... Are you paying attention?
