My main goal and function as host of Good Day is to provide you, the viewer, with context for the news of the day.  It's not to sit up there and read news AT you.  You can do that yourself by just picking up a newspaper.  When I was hired by FOX, they told me that my skill set was such that I could provide context to stories that other people couldn't, that viewers don't have time, with their busy schedules,  to read 3 newspapers and garner context across a variety of sources on one topic.  I'm flattered by FOX that that's my job, and I hope I'm able to do that for you.  But....

But I need your help, because the other part of my job is finding the answer to this question:  WHAT IS THE VIEWER BENEFIT?  Our business is our viewers and that's the most important question I can ask.  What is the viewer benefit for doing this particular segment or that particular story on the show?  I have great communication with you 'the viewers' through email and blogs, so I thought this would be the perfect forum for you to answer that question.   What do you 'the viewer' want to see when you wake up in the morning?  What value can I add to your day before you leave for work or stay home to take care of the kids?  Do you want broader dicussions about the biggest issues of the day?  Do you want to leave the house with a smile on your face?  When you turn to Good Day... what do you want?  I'll even make it more specific:  give me three specific things you want from your morning news from 7-9 AM.  I'm hoping that this will open up a discussion that's never taken place before in local news, actually asking our viewers what they want instead of telling them what we think they want.  You won't see this at other stations!!!!

Im supportive of the war and all, but personally, I know it is a war. It is not news to me that a car bomb went off or a soldier died because in a state of war that is expected to happen everyday. Instead, I'd rather watch about recent scientific discoveries and researches that have been going on.

That's an interesting perspective and I appreciate your feedback. So you don't think there is a viewer benefit in hearing daily casualty numbers from Iraq? What are your thoughts on hearing the daily murder rate in Philadelphia?

I think that the Good Day cast, does a GREAT job when discussing serious stories, and then having the fun stories/segments. It definitely keeps me informed, and as well as entertained. I have watched good day for 7 years now, and each morning I've watched it all the way up until 9AM(unless I need to be out of the house before 9). I think you, and Sheinelle make an excellent team. As well as the earlier cast, George & Sharon usually. Keep up the great work.

I don't want to see things that make me think that the Fox corporate media machine assumes I'm an idiot:

1. Feature stories that equate to marketing the latest movie or DVD that has been released by a media company that just happens to be owned by Fox's parent company. Advertising is for commercial breaks. It is not "news". Please do not insult me by assuming I do not know the difference.

2. Feature stories that equate to marketing other programs on the Fox network. Other than a brief mention of other shows aired on the Fox network, they don't deserve feature stories about them on GDP (American Idol, for example). If I wanted to watch the other show, I would have. I don't need GDP ramming it down my throat as "news".

3. Commercials during commercial breaks that blast the volume at me or garble the audio in a lame marketing effort to get my attention. It gets my attention all right - I change the channel immediately.

I think GDP should regularly make known how local, state, and Federal officials representing us vote on critical issues. For example, I am represented in Congress by Senators Menendez and Lautenberg and Representative Lobiondo. On May 24, 2007, all of these men voted to continue funding the war in Iraq without withdrawal timelines. Does everyone represented by them know this?

GDP does not need to take sides regarding how they voted, but they should inform people in the viewing area how people representing us vote.

Explain about websites to find out who represents each of us and how to contact them to express one's opinions; for example:

http://www.visi.com/juan/congress

And websites to find out how these representatives vote in Congress:

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/

No matter what one's opinion is or whether I personally agree with it, each of us needs to learn to start expressing it to people that represent us.

Please ask Sue just to report the weather and keep the jokes to a minimum. Al Roker can be a card at times but he also doesn't cackle on and wheeze like a COPD patient every time they go to him to do the weather. Everything is funny to her and then she does that laughing/talking at the same time bit and just when it looks like she won't catch her breath, BAM - here is the forecast. At times it seems GDP is a cable access show or at best a College Produced tv show.

But at the same time this car wreck that I can't look away from quality keeps me watching.

Clayton,

In the morning I only have about 15 minutes to catch the show. I am sure many are in the same situation. You figure in those 15 minutes a mix of National,Local and world news if it is truly dramatic could be incorporated. But most importantly I think in every 15 minute segment perhaps a feel good piece of news. Like helping the community segment or something like that. Many of us would like at least one brightspot from the news before heading out the door.

Gosh, where is GETTVTHUNDERBOLT?

Do you think after his little rant he got up from his computer, walked over to his giant poster of the FOX29 Weather Team and ripped it down dramatically?

Did he ride off into the horizon like Alan Ladd with Thunder Tush calling out Doug! Doug! Come back Doug!

What do you think? Most creative idea will be rewarded

Hi Clayton,
I love watching the Good Day show. I watch everyday possible! I totally agree with the war news comment, If I wanted to know more, I would read about it, but I don't. I miss Sue's weather frequently, I blink or cough...it's over and I have to wait to see if I can get it on the next 9. And to Snake Plissken...we all cough during allergy season, and we love SUE!!!! The best comment I can make is prolong some of the stories, just when they get started, it's "well they're telling me in my ear to move on..." the producers/directors need to allow for some of the stories to be fully covered. That's what we want. I love the show!!!

bberue,

My comments toward Sue have nothing to do with allergy season. Every time they do some little trying to be funny segue, she laughs like its the funniest joke she has ever heard. How hard is it once in a while to go Sue what is the weather? Clayton here it is.
But instead we get some forced comment which is midly amusing at best and Sue laughs like a loon and can barely compose herself. Then they keep the party train going when they pass it to Dorothy who not only can't ad-lib but can barely read a tele-promter. But again GDP is a train wreck and I cannot look away.

I want a quick summary of the news without the editorial comment. And I want it to fairly represent what's actually happening. For instance, if there are 5 pro-choice folks protesting at 6th and Market, but there are 5,000 people at a pro-life march at City Hall, you can't show the story of the 5 people at 6th and Market and ignore the 5,000 at City Hall. This happens all the time, which is why people have started to turn off the local and evening newscasts and try to find the new themselves on the internet. If it was the other way around and the numbers were switched, I'd say the main story is still the group with the large crowd, not 5 people. We hear about bombings in Iraq on a daily basis, which is fine if it's news. But we never see anyone report any of the positive developments, which are plenty. Get rid of the agenda and present the news fairly - local, national and world - and you'll definitely gain viewers as none of the other stations are willing to do this.

I think improvements only go so far. when your car is totaled, you buy a new one. I'd like for you to throw away the "Fox undercover" report. If I wanted to watch some old guy sneaking around, I'd put on an old James Bond movie. The show is getting too much like Dateline NBC and the content is either boring or ridiculous.

Save the time, money, and man power and put it into something I care about-not someones 20,000 gallon swimming pool being incomplete or some pervert having a myspace.

I agree with the AlexR. I don't want about war first thing in the morning. We get enough of it in the newspapers and evening news. I like hearing good news in the morning. I love the weather on the 9's and even though I don't have to leave the house, the traffic info is great in case I do.

I watch Good Day for the local news, events happening (such as festivals, though you could give more info on those things), and ask the expert. As for events, I wish you would put out there what fairs, festivals, etc are happening in area.

News by numbers is a nice little segment by the way.

i think the show is better with you on it it seems more like up to beat show unlike the other news stations with boring old people that talk in boring voices and their fake chemistry. Plus if there was a water main brake i know you guys would make a big deal about.

Three things I want in a morning news show; 1. Accuracy. Get the story right. That's not always easy with breaking news, but try. If you dont know what you are talking about, don't try to sound like an expert. If you are on the crime beat, you should understand how the law works, and how police enforce it. If you are reporting on a gun issue, you should know the diference between a magazine and a clip. You should also know there is no such thing as a semi-automatic handgun. If you are reporting on the war, you should know the differne between a company and a battalion. You should also know the difference between a soldier and a marine. When you don't pay attentionto these details, you end up saying stupid things that erode you credibility.

2. Moderation. Brittney, Nichole, Paris and Lindsey are not important newsmakers. When their antics rize to a level of public interest, it should be noted and then move on. The size of a fools bank account does not make their foolishness newsworthy. It has been hot before and this winter it will get cold and we will probably get snow. This is not a crisis event. And unless the hurricane is making landfall in Wildwood, we don't need a local weather person there. It is not an impending crisis for Philadelphia if it is happening in Corpus Christi.

3. Discretion. There are frequently children up and about when GDP is on. Most parents are getting ready for the ay while listening more than watching. We aren't monitoring content as closely and depend on you to back us up. If you would not want your child to watch a

Clayton Morris comes to FOX 29 from the The Daily Buzz morning show in Orlando. Before a stop in sunny Florida Clayton spent two years in Bluefield, West Virginia, where he was the main anchor at WVVA-TV. Prior to that, Clayton worked as a Political Reporter for Montana's News Station (which is a conglomerate of CBS affiliates throughout the state of Montana). Clayton started in news in Los Angeles, producing for KTTV Fox 11 News "Good Day LA." It was there he discovered his love for live television, politics, and ridiculous fun that can be had during morning news. Clayton can be seen each morning on Good Day Philadelphia.
