On Assignment w/ CT

November 13, 1978 is the day I started working in the newsroom at KDFW. I was beyond excited.  Milwaukee is where I started my career as a broadcast Journalist and I was looking forward to the challenges and opportunities in a larger market. Then, we were Channel 4 and a CBS Affiliate.  Now ,we're FOX4 and a FOX O&O.  Then, Dallas/Fort Worth was the nation's 10th television market...now we're #5. So many changes, so much growth during the last 30 years.

I'm deeply grateful to station management and my colleagues for helping me mark this career milestone with CT30. All this week I'm taking a walk down News Memory Lane... On Assignment:  Berlin when the Wall came down; Saudia Arabia and Kuwait covering Texas troops in Operation Desert Storm; Lake Falcone tracking drug smugglers; Hurricane Alicia; Salute Texas; the Challenger Disaster; The Lost Confederates in Brazil; national political conventions and Presidential Inaugurations; Disaster City in College Station; the Dallas FBI Citizens' Academy; the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia; the weapons training that turns airline pilots into Federal Fight Deck Officers; the training of Bomb Dogs with the TSA's Explosives Detection Canine Teams... just to name a few. Talented and fantastic KDFW photographers have been with me every step of the way as we brought the story home to you.

Happy Highlights?  Covering more than 600 Hometown Heroes across North Texas; covering excellence in the classroom with Class Act which saluted North Texas teachers; covering the Dallas Cowboys in 4 Super Bowls; Christmas in Cowtown; Mayfest, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Komen Race Day. Reporting on my F/A-18 Hornet flight with the Navy's Blue Angels was the thrill of a lifetime.

Tragic times include September 11th, the explosions of the Space Shuttles Columbia and Challenger. Reporting on the brave fight and the death of my dear friend, Dr. Suzanne Ahn who died of lung cancer even though she never smoked.

The last 30 years have truly flown by. Thank you for watching so many, many, many newscasts and stories and assignments. It's been my honor to bring you the news each day at a high level because you deserve nothing less. This is a wonderful, special time for me. I'm overwhelmed.

Back in those good old days you caused me a lot of chagrin and grief in trying to watch the 10 p.m. news.

You on Channel 4 and Tracey Rowlett and Iola Johnson on Channel 8 -- you three were in a class by yourselves when it came to broadcast news.

I started out trying to switch between the two channels during the news portion of the broadcast and that drove me nuts. So I would alternate nights between the two channels.

You may have come here from Milwaukee but those days are forgotten -- and forgiven.

You are 100 per cent pure Texan.

Clarice, you have made a difference during your career.

Thank you for being here.

Congratulations, Clarice! I remember when you came on board with KDFW! You have definitely found the fountain of youth. I love your Hometown Heroes segment, especially the lady who volunteers at Parkland. I can't remember her name & have been hunting around the site to find it, but I saw that report on tv. In my opinion, she is Miss America & I would say the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. The way she puts her gentle hands on the babies & gives them comfort makes her a true angel.

Thank you Clarice for all your 30 years of great reporting, and for your involvement in the community with the Komen Race for the Cure, the Girl Scouts, and Hometown Heroes.

I have watched you from day one, and I can't say enough here to thank you for all that you have done, and continue to do! You are just a wonderful person, and I wish for you many more years to continue in the path that you have chosen. You add so much to each day.
Best regards, Joe from Farmersville.

Congradulations Clarice,
I too saw you when you came aboard with Channel 4. I have watched you off and on for the past 30 years. I must admit I would switch back and forth when Tracy and Iola was on Channel 8. Keep up the good work, and may we see your sweet smiling face for the next 30 years. Thank you very much for your service in the news.

Wow, Congratulations are in order Clarice! It's hard to believe you have a tenured 30 yrs in the business. I've enjoyed watching and listening to you over the years, I think I moved to late getting to know you better, but hopefully I'll get an opportunity to greet you in the future. Yes, you have a great husband and I remember when it was announced concerning your marriage to him...very lucky guy. Remember when Iola was at Channel 8? That's how far I go back with you, both of you were (and are) still as gorgeous as ever, and it was a great testament seeing two young african-american ladies take the airwaves over DFW and blaze the trail for quality journalism in Texas.

Just a little walk back for me down memory lane with you, hope you don't mind. And may I say with all respect, you're still a doll today, just gorgeous! May your future days continue to be blessed and favored with much grace, and may you and your husband live together continually blessed.

A friend and fan viewer,
Tony

Congratulations Clarice!!! We've been watching you for a long time!

Say, did you live at Country Square Apartments in 1979? That was my first year in DFW.

I saw someone who looked like you at the apartment mailboxes, we said hi to each other, and I was thinking, "Hey, that sure does look like that news lady on Channel 4"! - So I looked at the mailbox and it said "Tinsley", but you had walked off by that time.

That would REALLY be a strange coincidence if it WASN'T you! I've always wanted to ask if that was you!
