MOST OF US  ARE  GEARING UP FOR THANKSGIVING.   WITH T-DAY LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY  WE'RE PLANNING OUR GROCERY SHOPPING, PULLING OUT THE OLD FAMILY RECIPES... AND EVEN STARTING TO THINK CHRISTMAS.

AND ON THAT NOTE... FOX 11 THOUGHT THIS THE PERFECT TIME TO DO SOMETHING FOR THOSE PICKING UP THE PIECES AFTER LAST WEEK'S FIRESTORM.   AND A GROCERY STORE THE PERFECT PLACE TO DO IT.

THE SHEER NUMBER IS STAGGERING.   ALMOST 500 HOMES LOST IN THE SYLMAR FIRE.   SEEMS MANY OF US AT FOX NEW SOMEONE TOUCHED.   SPORTSCASTER RICK GARCIA TALK OF THE DISTANT RELATIVE WHO LOST HIS MOBILE HOME.
OUR PRODUCER HEIDI SAID THE HOME OF HER DAUGHTER'S TEACHER BURNED DOWN.   I WAS WATCHING THE NEWS AND WAS STUNNED TO SEE A MAN I KNEW PICKING THROUGH THE ASHES OF HIS HOME IN YORBA LINDA.  WE'RE TO WORK TOGETHER IN TWO WEEKS.   EACH YEAR HE HOSTS A HUGE XMAS PARTY FOR KIDS IN FOSTER CARE.  IN THE NEWS REPORT HE SAID HE HAD JUST THREE MINUTES TO FLEE THE FIRE.  189 HOMES LOST IN YORBA LINDA, BREA, CORONA.

SO, IF YOU CAN HELP... SEND MONEY.  MONEY IS WHAT'S NEEDED WRITE NOW.  VOUCHERS FOR FOOD AND CLOTHING WILL BE GIVEN TO FIRE VICTIMS.

SEND CHECKS TO:
SALVATION ARMY
900 WEST JAMES M. WOODS BLVD.
LOS ANGELES, 90015
PLEASE MARK CHECKS FOR : FOX FIRE RELIEF

BETTER YET... IF YOU LIVE NEAR GRANADA HILLS OR YORBA LINDA... THIS MONDAY WE ARE TEAMING WITH THE SALVATION ARMY COLLECTING DONATIONS... ALL DAY AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS.
IN GRANADA HILLS AT THE ALBERTSON'S ON SAN FERNANDO MISSION BOULEVARD.
ALSO THE ALBERTSON'S ON YORBA LINDA BOULEVARD IN YORBA LINDA.
AND GALPIN HONDA ON LAUREL CANYON BOULEVARD IN MISSION HILLS.
TO FIND OUT MORE YOU CAN GO TO MYFOX LA DOT COM.

REBUILDING TAKES TIME.  EVEN FOR THE WEALTHY AND INSURED.   I KNOW FIVE PEOPLE WHO'S HOMES HAVE BURNED DOWN IN MY LIFETIME.  JUST LAST YEAR MY DEAR FRIEND LILLY LOST EVERYTHING.   WE THREW A SHOWER FOR HER TO ENCOURAGE HER TO START PUTTING LIFE BACK TOGETHER.  ON HER WISH LIST WERE THE SIMPLEST OF THINGS.   LIKE COOKING UTENSILS.  CARLOS GAVE HER A FLASHLIGHT.   I GOT HER NEW DOOR MATS.  SOMEONE ELSE, A NEW SHOWER CURTAIN.  THEY WERE SIMPLE THINGS WE TAKE FOR GRANTED.

ON MONDAY WE REMEMBER THOSE SUFFERING GREATLY.   AFTERALL, IT IS THANKSGIVING... AND X-MAS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

What a blessing it is to sow into the lives of people. Gifts of love and showing care from the heart. That's the American spirit.Love beareth all things. This is an awesome post.I have a minister friend whose home blew up seconds after He and his family cleared out.
They lost everything but the clothes on there back.In fact the home blew up three(3) times. They were blessed to escape and be in the land of the living.
We can show acts of sympathy but many don't feel empathy because they have not been there.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!!!

Media - Happy T-day to you too. Sorry about your minister friend. I'm guessing he has a great support system.
It was incredible to be at the donation site. I was at Yorba Linda. Other reporters at Mission Hills. It was a beautiful site to see parents walk their children up and have the little ones put the money in the Salvation Army bucket. What wonderful teachings.

HELP!!!

We have, blankets, sheets, kitchen items, even building materials in our warehouse ready to ship to California (no clothes) - to help the people who have lost everything due to the fire.

PROBLEM - I can NOT find a contact person - a location for drop off - a distribution center. The Red Cross is NOT the answer, so please do not send me there. There has to be a local group that is doing something, someplace....

Please help us, contact them and have them contact us. We are 800 miles away, but we want to help. PLEASE check out our Web Site www.WCDisasterRelief.org .

If you would like a local media contact to check us out or coordinate stories : Crystal Costa ccosta@kjct8.com Work: 970-245-8888 Cell: 559-936-7758

I will look forward to hearing from someone SOON.

Thank you,

Christine_I have done as you asked and donated to the relief fund. It was not a huge amount but it is what we could afford. Thanks for posting this on your blog or I would not have know about this effort.

Hey Christine, I first met you back in the summer of 1994 at Venice Beach (I was new with the LAPD and in uniform). I remember this beautiful woman approached me and had a short, but intriguing conversation. You said you were going to a part-time job at Virgin records. I wanted to ask you out, but not while I was working. After you left, I kicked myself. Months later I saw you on TV giving the news. I bet we would've made beautiful music together. It's good to see you're doing well, and you are still Breath-taking! God Bless

It has been my honor to work(anchor 10pm news) at Fox 11 news since 1990(yes, I started when I was 2!) Jokes aside, Fox 11 has allowed me to continue my passion for knowledge and education. My parents were both educators and stressed "knowing about our world." They were aid workers in Brazil(my heritage) and Africa and emphasized a caring for community. I love coming to work each day and being a part of "what's new." Fox 11 has allowed me to serve through our Wednesday's Child program. Our goal, to help children in foster care... who will end up on the streets at 18... find permanent safe homes. Through WC we are using the power and outreach of TV to find adoptive homes for children in GREAT need. My parents were foster parents and adopted one boy. I was adopted by my step-dad, which gave me the name "Devine." At home, I enjoying cooking and fitness. I have a new puppy for the first time since high school and am completely in love. (and with my fiance too!)
