It is election-eve!!! And I am SO excited. Like a kid at Christmas waiting for the gift of a new president.(no, that was not a Bush-bashing comment) Anyway, we have two good men wanting to run the most powerful nation on the planet. Two good men who want to serve our country. Two good men who want to serve YOU! Or perhaps, one is Scrooge depending on your views of their policies????

Christmas day, election-wise comes tomorrow. I'll wake up early, and a little groggy(as I do work 'till midnight). I'll lazily walk out to the kitchen, excited about opening gifts... er... voting. My eyes will open wide as I look at the beautiful tree... or in this case, the tree at MY polling place... which is the neighbor next door. Really. Next door. My fellow family members... voters... will pop in throughout the day. They'll share a laugh with relatives... election workers. Arrive in hand with a gift for the host... their voter information pamphlet to speed things along. It will be a large family dinner... voter turnout expected to be about 80 percent ! Will there be enough food??? - voting rights advocates Sunday demanded that the Los Angeles County Registrar print and rush enough ballots.

By 8pm, Christmas... I mean election day... will have come and gone. Some will be pleased with the present America receives. Some will want to return... although they'll have to wait four years for that. At this hour... I still must rush out and get a few more gifts.... or rather, decide how I'm going to vote on some of the props. Animal rights activists have asked for a yes vote on prop 2. However, I spent some time looking at the opinion pages of newspapers across the state, and several said vote no on this issue largely affecting the egg industry. FYI, driving through Manhattan Beach on Saturday I saw Prop 8 supporters out in full force pushing the passing of the marriage protection act. Will the bond measures pass in this tough economy? Are the alternative energy props good for California? Who doesn't want to fight crime, get drug addicts rehab, support victim's rights? But are they worth the costs?

Should Christmas... I mean elections... be this confusing? I have one very well educated friend who largely votes NO on every prop to send a message he thinks this system is absurd. Saturday night at dinner, I was thrilled to chat with a 25 year old waitress who was extremely well versed on the props... she admitted she was a political science major. A dear friend is voting for the first time and we've had a ball chatting elections... or rather... he's allowed me to practice for Fox 11's extensive coverage. We'll be live on the web from 5pm-10pm. Then of Fox 11 from 10 -12pm.

So... decision time is now. You must select that perfect present for mom or dad(which candidate has the best health care plan)... or for brother who might be military... or sister who's about to lose her home. Santa's comin' through the chimney soon. If ya want the perfect present on your wish list... ya better get out and vote!!!!!! What's on your voter wishlist?

If we would learn what the human race really is at bottom, we need only observe it in election times. - Mark Twain August 4th, 1891

Christine, as I'm writing, I'm watching Sarah Palin as she cast her vote. I agree with you in that it's exciting! I hope you can get some rest, so that you'll be ready for the task ahead tonight. One big wish I have is this: I want to see some dignity restored in marriage and morality. I'm tired of those who usurp our will, and push their views onto us and our children. I also hate what predators do to our children. I'll be watching the set tonight! Also, I know you weren't Bush Bashing around, you are very polite.

Of course she is polite. You never noticed that? She's a real sweetheart of a person and it shows on tv a lot. Hey, Mister E, Rick plugged mamas Donuts this morning while he was freezing to death in the chopper. All those hot fresh donuts and french vanilla coffee. Do you think I should nominate Rick for the "Suzanne Marques, Frozen Small Award" today??? :D Let me know.

50 States
Chicago Immigrants Rally Around Obama
By Kari Lydersen
Lines formed for the first time local residents could remember at polling places in neighborhoods on Chicago's southwest side with large immigrant populations. Even illegal immigrants unable to vote were wearing Obama buttons and voicing support for the candidate who they think could rescue the economy, provide healthcare for low wage workers and "give us papers," in one woman's words.

Many immigrants said that family back in Mexico are anxiously waiting for election results, hoping that an Obama victory might reverse the economic downturn that has severe effects on remittances to Mexico and the Mexican economy.

"It's very important to Mexicans that Obama wins," said Benjamin Anaya, a former music professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico who is assisting Mexican journalists in Chicago covering the election. "People think he will stabilize everything, the economy, the immigration system. People are excited but scared because they know the Republicans are capable of a lot of fraud."

It is now midnight. I'm signing off after seven hours of election coverage on the web and Fox 11.

Some of you will be thrilled with the results of the national election. Barack Obama is President -elect. Others will be very unhappy.

Still, the gift I was talking about was the gift to VOTE. Record turn-out! A nation energized. Whether your party won or lost there is still reason to get involved in America and fight for your beliefs.

Christine So true about that. I am so happy that Barack Obama is President- elect. He was the better choice we had. I saw this coming early on so this was no suprise to me.Now the record will show what kind of actions we will see from him. I was there at the celebration. I witnessed first hand even before election night all this building. Many tears and crys of joy from White,Black, and Hisspanic. In America someone wins and someone loss. But we are all Americans therefore we all really win.No losers at all just one America. This was good for our nation from all fronts.I had the oportunity to actually help in this effort.Oh the memories will last for a life time.

Our marvelous latter-day statesmanship has invented universal suffrage. That is the finest feather in our cap. All that we require of a voter is that he shall be forked, wear pantaloons instead of petticoats, and bear a more or less humorous resemblance to the reported image of God. - Mark Twain 1875

It has been my honor to work(anchor 10pm news) at Fox 11 news since 1990(yes, I started when I was 2!) Jokes aside, Fox 11 has allowed me to continue my passion for knowledge and education. My parents were both educators and stressed "knowing about our world." They were aid workers in Brazil(my heritage) and Africa and emphasized a caring for community. I love coming to work each day and being a part of "what's new." Fox 11 has allowed me to serve through our Wednesday's Child program. Our goal, to help children in foster care... who will end up on the streets at 18... find permanent safe homes. Through WC we are using the power and outreach of TV to find adoptive homes for children in GREAT need. My parents were foster parents and adopted one boy. I was adopted by my step-dad, which gave me the name "Devine." At home, I enjoying cooking and fitness. I have a new puppy for the first time since high school and am completely in love. (and with my fiance too!)
