Girl power in action!  Actually, they were women.. and a few good men!
I'm talking about the Women's Conference held last week in Long Beach.   The one hosted by Cal First Lady, Maria Shriver.  Did you see the clips on the news?

It is a non-partisan gathering of women created 23 years ago for small business owners.  Shriver's popularity grew it to 14-THOUSAND this year.  And it was live on the web.

If you want to be inspired, empowered, involved... check it out.
  www
.californiawomen.org

There were women... and men from all walks.  Governor Schwarznegger, Warren Buffet, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, CNN's Christian Amanpour, Anchor Deborah Norville, Supermodel Heidi Klum, Bono, Tennis great Billie Jean King and so many names you may or may not know.

Why care?  Because during this time of political and economic uncertainty we need leaders.  We need to know there are people fighting for something.   These panelists shared their success and their trials.
Condi Rice still ponders how a black girl from the south took up Russian studies
Heidi Klum revealed she had to BEG her agents to send her on a Sports Illustrated audition
Warren Buffet insists we stay in stocks.
Governor Schwarzenegger says his business mind grew as a 10 year old in Austria where he sold ice cream as a kid
Maria Shriver promised to let go of being angry over losing her network job when her husband took political office.

(pic)   Bobby Shriver, Maria's brother.  A co-founder of the Red campaign, designed to help empower people in Africa.

I went to learn and grow.  I wasn't alone.  Ran into a Wednesday's Child mom, who'd adopted one of our little boys... and then his sister.

(pic) Mattel's booth.  Some sales benefit  Mattel Children's Hospital.

My friends at Interval House domestic violence shelter were honored.

(pic)  booth for Interval House Domestic Violence Shelter

Saw a celebrity's wife listening intently, and met a cool probation officer who brought her daughter.

(pic)  Bra fittings at one booth.   A popular spot!

The theme was "Be Who You Are."   Maria Shriver admitted... to be the person you want to be...can take a long time.  Amen to that!

Speaking of girl power....

Christine as a reporter, could you please put up any information you might have on what Barrack Obama said on the video tape the Los Angeles Times REFUSES to make public? Please.

Don't "the people" have the right to know if their presidential candidate parties with terrorists and anti-Semites?

Aren’t these things that “the people” might want to be aware of?

"Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people." - John Adams

from the news wires:

The newspaper has refused to release the video, citing an agreement it made with an anonymous source.

Money’s been offered for the tape, maybe he/she will change their mind. So how about transcripts in the meantime? Why don’t they write down what was said by those attending the event, word for word? I want to know, I want my friends and family to know, what Obama said at that event, and how he reacted to the anti-Semitic comments made.

This isn’t a popularity contest, this is a presidential election, for the United States, the most powerful country in the world. ALL of us have a right to know exactly who this man is, and how he truly feels about this country and our friends.

Too add to the lack of focus on womens needs especially when there are children involved; our local domestic violence shelter is in jeopardy of closing because of lack of funding? they cannot even supply food to there homeless shelter right now.. is there anything that can be done to help? we are not in Los Angeles but i am from L.A. and i truly feel for these women up here in the high desert. With Unity home closing that sends a message to our community that domestic violence is not a big enough issue for us to care about!WHAT??????

Devine is nothing but a big joke. The LA Times could have at least released the transcript. You know, just like they did with Ahhhnooooode and that "hot latina" representative. Remember that? Didn't have a problem with that did they? And nw we have homos hanging effigy's of Sarah Palin and NO OUTCRY WHATSOEVER from the phony media spokesholes condemning this act. Maybe next time it'll be them. At least if an Illegal Alien rapes a woman in L.A., the chuntes won't have to worry about the LAPD processing the rape kit. I'm sure that wasn't discussed either by all the so-called "girl power" chicks huh? Is Billie Jean King still unmarried?

that's a fun fact that i learned today. arnold sold ice cream as a kid. i would like to meet him someday. he seems like such a amazing person. he has done so much in his life, and i wish i had his ambition. i vote for him if he could run for president. he can't do any worse then our current president. his wife also seems to be a amazing person too. she's always doing charity events and trying to help out her fellow women.

Funny how Devine doesn't mention Sarah Palin one time on her blog. Palin could very well be the next VP and not one word? That's pretty funny...

Df???
Sarah Palin was NOT at this conference. ALL other names listed were... like Condi Rice. I have blogged about Palin in the past. You are welcome to re-read.

Re: rape kit. I don't believe this issue had surfaced before convention... and then again I did not attend every seminar to know if it could have been discussed.

Re: effigy of Palin. The media did cover this so extensively and the protests that the homeowner did indeed take it down. Are you equally opposed to the Obama effigys?

Notso... thanks for checkin' in. Prayers to your domestic violence shelter. Interval House in Long Beach is the one I work with.

Bigger... always fun to read.

Samo.. and then when it got cold... Schwarzenegger quickly switched businesses and sold hotdogs.

Dasvics... don't know... but perhaps Times agreement prevented a release of tape AND transcripts by contact. That's a question for the Times.

I don't think there is any secret tape at all,its just another attempt to draw suspicion and smear the name of a great man and our next president.

mred,

A little bit of Liberalism and a little bit of Conservatism are usually pretty good for the country, with a solid, moderate foundation. I like to operate from a Moderate, Organized Labor, Lunchbucket, and Law and Order Democratic viewpoint. Capital Punishment is not a bad thing either...

I'm really sick and tired of the MSM and politicians lying right to our faces and getting away with it. That's not gonna happen any longer. We're gonna hold them accountable as much as we can. We're now up to 30% of un-affiliated voters in California.

Hi Christine!

It's always nice to read your blogs! I say more power to successful women! You all deserve the credit for the successes! While I'm recovering from the political wounds inflicted by a loss to Obama, I predict this ticket for the Republicans in 2012: Sarah Palin for President, with Bobby Jindahl as the Vice President going against the Obama-Biden team. Keep up the great job Christine!

It has been my honor to work(anchor 10pm news) at Fox 11 news since 1990(yes, I started when I was 2!) Jokes aside, Fox 11 has allowed me to continue my passion for knowledge and education. My parents were both educators and stressed "knowing about our world." They were aid workers in Brazil(my heritage) and Africa and emphasized a caring for community. I love coming to work each day and being a part of "what's new." Fox 11 has allowed me to serve through our Wednesday's Child program. Our goal, to help children in foster care... who will end up on the streets at 18... find permanent safe homes. Through WC we are using the power and outreach of TV to find adoptive homes for children in GREAT need. My parents were foster parents and adopted one boy. I was adopted by my step-dad, which gave me the name "Devine." At home, I enjoying cooking and fitness. I have a new puppy for the first time since high school and am completely in love. (and with my fiance too!)
