It's been said... that "laughter is the best medicine."

And this week... we got a double-dose in the presidential election. Did you see it???? You must!! John McCain and Barack Obama went toe-to-toe... or rather joke-to-joke... at a charity fundraiser. Obama laughed at McCain's funnies. And McCain laughed at Obama's. And Hillary Clinton... laughed at McCain's about Obama. (McCain's joke was along these lines... "I have a feeling there is someone here supporting ME. (pause... dead air... wonderment???) Hillary Clinton, nice to see you tonight." DEAD-ON! Funny as heck! The room roared... and so did those of us in the Fox 11 newsroom.

An Obama funny... "As you know my father is from Kenya...Obama is Swahili for... THAT one!" Of course, you have to know the political news, or have seen the debates, to know the reference to "THAT one!" Otherwise... not so funny.

In this election... in my book... McCain won the race for comedic timing, humor, delivery and audience reaction. Who knew he was so funny!! Obama, always smooth... was a little off. Kinda reminded me of those Comedy Central roasts. They always bring up a family member... wife, ex-girlfriend, ex-husband. They deliver scripted jokes... and are a little short of hitting a home run. Gives me new appreciation for the accomplished comic. But hey, "A" for effort. "A-plus" for helping America laugh a little during these times of economic stress. "A-plus" for
poking a little fun at comments or issues that may have offended one candidate's supporters or another's. Obama joked... "whoever gave me my middle name... must have never guessed I'd run for President." Hussein. His middle name is Hussein! (that one was actually funny, with the perfect comedic timing)

So, this begs the question... when one is laughing at one-self... does that make the medicine go down any easier?
Republican V-P candidate Sarah Palin is scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live this Saturday. Tina Fey look out. This is the woman "who can see Russia from her house." Few of us can say that. Fey plays Palin pretty perfectly. So, we may be asking... "will the real Sarah Palin please stand-up."

It can't be easy being in the spotlight... where every word is analyzed... every faux pas maximized... every mistake immortalized... on YouTube. I know, I know... these candidates auditioned for the role. Still!

I leave you on this Friday night with a bit of levity. Sorry, I haven't blogged in a few weeks. The weight of the financial crisis left me with more questions than answers. Plus some of the news ladies www.thegoodnewsfoundation.org/ held a big 500 person luncheon to honor those making "good news." So, I was slammed with that.

Back to business on Monday. Election day is two-and-a-half weeks away.
And that's NO joke!

I saw the Alfred E. Smith Memorial and it was great! Both John and Obama where hilarious, I actually liked Obama once again (if only for one night) and thought he came across as an incredibly nice, funny and cool person with an amazing sense of humor, he did great. But so did McCain of course.

I saw SNL as well! Sarah Palin did great, she’s just to cool.

This was very sad and honestly displayed how very left and in bed McCain is with Obama. What business did McCain have attending that Liberal party but to make a total Donkey out of himself instead of telling this country how he is going to fix it and also stand behind the people here. Is Obama even a real citizen, they are trying to hus that one up too. He may have a Kenyan Birth Certificate as he buys his way into office thanks to Oprah Winfrey one of the wealthiest leftist women in the world, not to mention the other Hollywood Marxist Tinselturds who hate this country including FOX and its employees. If Pelosi and Obama are running this country thanks to foreign money and Bush Admin helped kill the only large enough party to prevent it, you Christine as sweet an smart a person as you are may well find yourself a propaganda tool of American Marxism. That is why the party with the new Donkey called McCain is not funny, but rather, a large sad tragedy indeed for you, me, the children and the children's children.

Lmao! Some people don’t have a sense of humor, at all.

I agree with you on this Christine, and it wasn’t only hilarious, it was nice to see these guys laughing a little bit and toning things down, if only for a night.

200 sex assault cases pass prosecution deadline before LAPD tested DNA kits
The cases are part of a backlog of 7,000 DNA kits that the department has not tested, according to an audit by City Controller Laura Chick. Police say they don't have enough money.

Los Angeles police officials have allowed the deadline for prosecuting as many as 200 potential sexual assault cases to pass without testing DNA evidence that might have resulted in a suspect's identification, according to a city audit released today.

The 200 cases were part of an overall backlog of 7,000 sexual assault test kits that have not been examined by the LAPD. Each kit contains a potential genetic road map to the perpetrator of a crime.

LAPD blames faulty fingerprint... The latest from The Homicide ReportPolice Commission chief calls for investigation of fingerprint lab errors

"Sometimes I find problems as city controller that simply defy explanation," said City Controller Laura Chick at a news conference at which she unveiled her findings. "It is beyond disturbing that the thousands of victims who have undergone the invasive ordeal of [submitting to] these tests do not even know that their evidence is still untested."

The LAPD has been repeatedly criticized for its huge backlog of untested DNA evidence, but officials have said that they lacked the money to move faster on the cases.

Chick's report, however, found that the logjam existed even though the department had received nearly $4 million in grants in recent years to address the prob

Christine,

I'm glad these candidates took some time out just to have a few good laughs. Personally, I thought Sarah Palin was the funniest. By the way, I would have come out to Saturday's event, but I attended a retirement luncheon for one of my pastors. I look forward to another live event you guys will do in the near future.

The country is going down the tubes. Major, major Depression, people are losing their homes, families committing suicide. Marxists positioned to seize and destroy your freedoms and this is funny. Christine, these people may have been laughing, but ask the American people if this is a real time to laugh.

we Americans will have one of these men in our lives for at least four years, to take a little time to enjoy a few laughs together is nothing wrong in fact its healthy for us to see another side of the two in stead of uptight and grumpy

Just on the Savage show, former Pennsy state attorney Berg filed a lawsuit against Obama. Claims Obama not a natural citizen. Obama's certificate of birth only an acknowledgment and the one at his website is a forgery.

Also in the news, a blackman robbed a white woman and then in an act of racism carved a B on her face with his knife.

That McCain supporter made up the story I posted here yesterday claiming she was robbed and a black guy cut a "B" on her face. Since she lied to the cops, throw her butt in jail. More on the news story unfolding right here...

Folks, it doesn't get any more like the wild west mentality here with all of these antics going on.

Thanks for your responses.

I think the comedy outlet does perhaps expose a new audience. McCain on Letterman, Michelle Obama on Jay Leno the other night.

Sebar... I give you credit for correcting the one example.

Welcome MRed. Haven't seen you write before.

Df... HORRIBLE story/problem. Some corrections put in place just today.

Dasvics..thanks for gettin' it!

Well I try to be honest as I am typing this novel "L.A. Business" right now while reading your posting I am responding too. If I make a mistake I will always admit to it and I have apologized for going overboard, because I am not perfect as nobody except one that is. The girl that did that needs to pay the piper.

I feel bad for you guys if Obama gets in. I think FOX will be over run by communized laws silencing it. But there is also another bonus for the other press that wanted Obama, Pelosi and Reid. Those news staffs will be silenced too. Well I am going to begin backing off politics I think and going back to my main loves of story writing. I need to keep my website filled with fresh tales for the masses.

Thank you Misses Devine for your candid and professionalism hard endeavors online. I still think you and Mr. Markie "Baby" Thompson would have a blast hosting a dance show formatted more towards American Bandstan only concentrating on "Northern Soul." It would be a blast watching you both swinging it wildly on the dance floor with the competing guest talents and enjoying watching bands playing their tunes. Nothing like that on the air right now. (Time to concoct that show idea 34 seconds flat O.o )...cheers

It has been my honor to work(anchor 10pm news) at Fox 11 news since 1990(yes, I started when I was 2!) Jokes aside, Fox 11 has allowed me to continue my passion for knowledge and education. My parents were both educators and stressed "knowing about our world." They were aid workers in Brazil(my heritage) and Africa and emphasized a caring for community. I love coming to work each day and being a part of "what's new." Fox 11 has allowed me to serve through our Wednesday's Child program. Our goal, to help children in foster care... who will end up on the streets at 18... find permanent safe homes. Through WC we are using the power and outreach of TV to find adoptive homes for children in GREAT need. My parents were foster parents and adopted one boy. I was adopted by my step-dad, which gave me the name "Devine." At home, I enjoying cooking and fitness. I have a new puppy for the first time since high school and am completely in love. (and with my fiance too!)
