McCain/Palin.  Palin... who?

"I have no idea who HE is?"

That was how I started LAST WEEK’s blog!!   It was a young viewer’s response to the name “Joe Biden” when Barack Obama announced Biden as his choice for Veep.

I’m guessing that barely-out-of-high-school woman will be DUMBFOUNDED this week. (and perhaps the bulk of America!)   For John McCain’s choice is not a 30-year political veteran like Biden.  Not a name in the news OFTEN this past year because of his own presidential run.  But a LITTLE-KNOWN name... with less than two years in statewide political office... from a state that gets little attention.(unless you’re planning a cruise or wanting to drill for oil)  Alaska has only THREE electoral votes!!!

Sarah Palin.  Governor of Alaska.   SARAH PALIN!   Let me say it louder.  For she was not even in the top few names mentioned LAST NIGHT.(although her name was floated in the past.  And a fan favorite of one blogger: palinforvp.blogspot.com/)

WOW!  Does this not ENERGIZE the race!!!

There were rumblings that McCain had a trick up his sleeve last night. www.johnmccain.com  Huckabee was ruled out after reports he texted or emailed someone to say it wasn’t him.  Mitt Romney was reportedly seen leaving his home with an overnight bag.  Hhhhmmm... wonder where he was headed?  Was he in on it? No Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty?  What happened?   Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge flew to Dayton, Ohio last night.  Wasted trip?   Or media trick??!!!

Reports are now... Palin was flown to a NEARBY airport.  Tricky, tricky John McCain.  Very clever!   Time Magazine... you’ve done 8 cover stories on Obama... in sensing you owe McCain/Palin one.

-So who is Sarah Palin???

Here’s the Alaska website gov.state.ak.us

Here’s Wikipedia (although this site bugs me as ANYONE can enter info... and its not always accurate.)  However, here it is:   (and to those who want to make fun of Palin for being in a beauty contest... let it go.  She won money for a college scholarship.  Brains and beauty.  Nothing wrong with it.  Policy?  Experience?  Different issues, and your choice).

Sarah Louise Heath Palin (born in 1964)

Born in Idaho and raised in Alaska, Palin played point guard on her high school's basketball team. She was the 1984 runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant, receiving a scholarship that allowed her to attend the University of Idaho, where she received a degree in journalism. After working as a sports reporter at an Anchorage television station, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska, City Council from 1992 to 1996, was elected mayor of Wasilla (population 5,470 in 2000) in 1996, and ran unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor in 2002. She was elected Governor of Alaska in 2006 by first defeating an incumbent governor in the Republican primary, then a former Democratic Alaskan governor.    ######

Palin was presented to the public this morning.   McCain says he was looking for someone to “help him change Washington.”   Is Palin the one?  A good counter to Obama?  Like him,  she comes from a middle class upbringing(is a union member, parents were teachers.   Counters John McCain’s 7 houses problem)   Is  a mother of five, a baby with downs syndrome.(family values like Obama/Biden.  Married 20 years to her high school sweetheart.  Gorgeous couple!  Husband is a commerical fisherman, and world champion snow machine racer.).  One son in the military.(Republicans will appreciate that)    You can thank Hillary Clinton for paving the way and proving a woman can get votes in a Presidential campaign... although Palin’s not the first woman to get the nod for VP(Democrat Geraldine Ferraro).  She invited the women of America to "join her in shattering the glass ceiling."  She calls for energy independence.  Championed ethics reforms.   Has executive experience.  Challenged her own party.  High approval rating in Alaska. Says she was a hockey mom who never planned on politics.  Hhhhmmmm.... does it now confirm that youth and minimal political experience is okay?(Obama is 47.  Palin is 44)  Where do you go with that argument?   Imagine a V.P. debate Biden/Palin?

Next week is the Republican National Convention.  John McCain, you got our attention..

and happy birthday!

what a great choice and out of the blue.it not only made McCain seem more progressive and by picking a woman of the west if you will she will help in states like Nevada,Montana ,Colorado,..and being a mom and mother of a boy in the military will connect her with middle class women who can relate to her ..she stands up to big oil companies and even though she is anti abortion some woman i think will at least see her as someone who at least can relate to them as only they can to each other..i think it was a great choice for McCain and the republican party. a gun toting moose eating strong independent woman and mother who is not afraid of hard work ..hell if she wasnt the VP choice I would make her my choice for a wife..sorry Beach Boys you were wrong than God they aren't all California girls

Of what I now know of Palin (thanks to Wikipedia), I like what I've read. Reminds me slightly of Governor 'Arnold'. Someone who can rattle the cage a bit and doesn't mind standing by her princibles no matter who she ticks off.

I think it's great. Palin seems like a strong intelligent woman who stands by her beliefs and principles. I already admire her, and I'm a hard sell.

McCain ~ Palin 08! woohoo!

Finally, some REAL hope for America.

Sarah Palin is a political pun. She brings nothing interesting to the republican party. In fact, she has just made the case for the democrat that McCain is not about change.

Now, some of you might say, what are you talking about? He picked a woman. But no, Sarah Palin was not picked because she's a strong conservative. She was picked in hopes to offset the vote for women and strike an interest with the evangelical sect.

Let's face the real facts here. People, who don't like or disagree with Obama, do so because of his skin color. But do any of you understand that when you support McCain, that you're sinking deeper and deeper into failed policies and debt?

Why are conservatives and republicans scared of Obama, when they know that he's right. All of the issues that he raise are on point. But since he's part of different politicial party, people act as if they can't think outside the box and welcome change, so that the future of our country will be able to stand the test of times. You can't stand the test of times with old ways. If that was the case, then nothing in the United States is worth growing. Now, let's look at the politics.

Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, who do you honestly think have more of an interest in "IMPROVING" the lives of americans and the fabric of our democracy? Because as Obama stated, "this isn't a red america or a blue america. This is the United States of America."

And I would like to add that this is not a White America or a Black America. This is the land for all who wish to work hard and actually make something of the

Palin...who? LOL

Politics! What a chess game.

I listened to the Palin press conference today via radio and later watched the video. I had a very different impression of Palin from hearing her audio. I found her to be articulate, high-spirited, and quite the bit of sunshine in the republican party.

As I listened, I chatted with a friend who just returned from the DNC, I told her had she heard the news. Her reaction was-Damn! smart move. I was not totally impressed with what was said...something about her tone that concerned me. It was more like Hillary Clinton's speech--to me, she did it because she had to do it for the party. Not totally sincere. But, that is audio-first impression.

It was a smart move and quite the obvious. As I come to learn more about the woman, I am unsure of her. Upon my return home, I had videotaped the breaking news conference and watched Palin.

Hmm...being a woman, I wanted to like her. I wanted to know that this woman was in it for the purpose of changing America for the better...I'm not sold on this new tactic of throwing in a woman. Palin gave respect to Clinton and Ferraro-that was nice. Palin, however, does not encourage me, she concerns me.

It would have concerned me if Clinton became Obama's VP choice. Why? Because I doubt that they could have been a well balanced group who could work side by side to lead our country. Meaning-where one has its weakness, the other has it as strength. I want the leadership to be willing to have some opposing views but overall, put the people first before their own pride or

self. They are leaders of great passion for change for our people living in our world. Having Palin as the VP for McCain concerns me because I question the balance. I got the sense that when she sang the praises of McCain, it was more so a child reading the speech the parent gave them. Not a great impression. As I look for a person to which I could identify, I wanted to see her passion, hear her voice, and recognize a mother, a wife, and citizen who is like me, I did not.

All the arguments that I've heard about her experience (little) cannot be judged unless we judge Obama's. That's fair. Her family situation, as such, her ability to stand up and speak out, and to address the Big Boy's Club mentality, these are all admirable. It is a let down to me, so far, because I know that as much as I want to know that Palin is in this place because of her ability, she is more likely there because of her gender and a vote.

I'm interested in learning more about her. I have many questions for Obama/Biden and for McCain/Palin. I would have really liked to hear from others opinion about Palin...honest opinions.

'People, who don't like or disagree with Obama, do so because of his skin color.'

'I would like to add that this is not a White America or a Black America.'

Which is it Contradicted?
And no, I couldn't possibly care less what color Barack's skin is. I didn't witness segration, I grew up in a time where everyone's treated equally. I don't like Obama because he's weak, supports killing fully developed babies, supports homosexuality, doesn't come across as patriotic, has nothing in common with me, my lifestyle or values, and he wants to grant criminals special privileges like driver licenses. He's supposed to be a leader, someone better than me, not worse. Someone I could look up to, not down on.

I got the impression that Sarah was incredibly honest. She made a believer out of me!

She's someone I could trust and look up to, she'll make a great leader, I have no doubts.

The more I read and learn out about Sarah Palin, the more I admire her. She's a mother of FIVE, (her baby has down syndrome, she knew this before giving birth) and does a fantastic job as the Governor of Alaska. She has a huge approval rating, and married her High School sweetheart. She's intelligent and beautiful. wow. What a woman.

Christine,

I did hear about Sarah Palin several months ago as a possible candidate, and wow! What a way to go! I must tip my hat to John McCain...this man is brilliant! Just so you know, there are articles that just came out today on Newsmax.com. The women's organization Susan B. Anthony is very pleased with McCain's choice. I will try to get a Political Post up, with the Newsmax stories as my sources, so that you can easily get a quick reference. I'll make sure the original titles are there. I'm definitely happy with McCain's choice. Also, I agree with Crafty about what he is saying about the liberals on his last post here. I look forward to reading more of your thoughts Christine, along with the others who respond.

Having a son in Iraq doesn't make her Joe Biden. What does that mean? Who claimed she was anything like a Joe Biden? She is way above his league. She's more in line with McCain than Biden is with Obama. You're right, Marv, she's no Joe Biden, thank the good Lord.

It has been my honor to work(anchor 10pm news) at Fox 11 news since 1990(yes, I started when I was 2!) Jokes aside, Fox 11 has allowed me to continue my passion for knowledge and education. My parents were both educators and stressed "knowing about our world." They were aid workers in Brazil(my heritage) and Africa and emphasized a caring for community. I love coming to work each day and being a part of "what's new." Fox 11 has allowed me to serve through our Wednesday's Child program. Our goal, to help children in foster care... who will end up on the streets at 18... find permanent safe homes. Through WC we are using the power and outreach of TV to find adoptive homes for children in GREAT need. My parents were foster parents and adopted one boy. I was adopted by my step-dad, which gave me the name "Devine." At home, I enjoying cooking and fitness. I have a new puppy for the first time since high school and am completely in love. (and with my fiance too!)
