The Chinese call this day "lucky."  I would bet John Edwards would beg to differ.  While lots of folks rushed to marry on this special day... it was a marriage scandal that topped the news... and talk radio... and most everyone I encountered this evening.

In case you didn't watch news today, listen to radio, or live in a cave... here's the story in a nutshell according to Associated Press:

"Former presidential candidate John Edwards, who won nationwide praise and sympathy as he campaigned side by side with his cancer-stricken wife, Elizabeth, ADMITTED in shame Friday he had had an affair with a woman who produced videos as he
prepared to launch his campaign. "

Driving to work... talk radio's Larry Elder was debating whether the Edward's affair was newsworthy.  One caller complained there were more important issues on the planet.  Thoughts?  Elder says it matters because Edwards may... was... in line for a possible political position should Obama win the presidency.   Elder said past questions on whether McCain had an affair were valid too.   Think the French would agree?

Water cooler gossip is sure to be hot and heavy on this one... (unless of course people aren't at the work water cooler and actually enjoying their weekend)

I know, I know this topic is too easy and I'm sure everyone has an opinion.   So, go for it.

I echo Hillary Clinton's prayers for the family. Kind of ironic knowing Edwards was so critical of Bill Clinton's affair.(Df... I'm sure you can find YouTube video on this one)

Heading home tonight... reporter Ed Laskos who covered the story sadly said... "there are no winners on this one."

On that note, I'm going home... and watching the Olympics!

Christine This i guess is apart of life when it comes to people and imperfections.Pointing fingers at others when four fingers are pointing back at the one who is pointing the finger.Yes I feel for Mrs.Edwards hurt and can imagine how hurtful she felt or yet feels. And it is also true that people are so disappointed with politians and there seemly betrayal of caring about America when there appears to be indifferent in there relationship.Marriage is a sacrice trust. But I am not standing in judgement of the Senator but glad that He did the right thing. As for as the Media is concerned. The media will do what they have always done.It does not matter who the famous person is.It's the news that America wants even when they say they don't want to know. We love the gossip.

So much for BLOGGING 101. The big losers are the "spokesholes" for the MSM and the print media for knowingly "sit" on this story to help cover for John "Silky" Edwards. You spokesholes went on the offensive to suppress ANY conversation concerning this issue. You've confirmed, again, that you spokesholes are NOT HONEST BROKERS OF TRUTHFUL INFORMATION, PARAGONS OF VIRTUE, or PILLARS OF CREDIBILITY. Passive Agressive...

first of all Larry Elder is one of the biggest racist morons in broadcasting when commenting about McCain's Paris Hilton Lindsay Lohan ad he thought what they were getting at is seeing a black man with white women..he tried to debate that fact on hardball on MSNBC..I don't know anyone who got that from that ad..that alone tells you what an idiot that guy is ..as far as Edwards affair ..big deal Clinton did it when he was president ..so did Roosevelt and Kennedy ...So what? politicians are human like the rest of us ..what makes it disgusting is that he cheated while not only married but married to a woman who was going through a traumatic time battling cancer ..only they know what was going on during that time in their lives and it should stay that way..

let's qualify the situation. who could resist the opportunity to launch the rocket with a beautiful woman who is flying around the world with you? Rielle Hunter is a nice looking woman. i don't feel any man has an obligation to publicly announce who he is playing hid the salami with. it's not like john edwards dropped his drawers for monica lewinsky. i'd give Rielle Hunter a position on my staff!

I did indeed have to put the past blog on the backburner(Blogging 101) as the company has asked me to write a new blog once a week. So... we are at that point. I will try to revisit some it and some of the issues addressed, however, 94 responses made it tough to respond to all as we neared week's end.

So, to stay on message. How 'bout them Olympics?! Anyone see the fabulous Michael Phelps? As a former swimmer, this is one of my favorite competitions. I pulled this copy from the Bloomberg website: "Michael Phelps took the first step on his quest for a record eight titles at the Beijing Olympics.

Phelps broke his world record in the 400-meter individual medley at the Water Cube pool, cheered by U.S. President George W. Bush, to win the gold medal.

He'll race in today's 400- meter freestyle relay as he continues his bid to surpass fellow American swimmer Mark Spitz's seven golds in 1972.

Re: Edwards... I'm with you Media. Am I my best if I kick a man when he's down? Can any of us declare perfection? As voters we do have a right to not choose to vote for a candidate or support one in the future. And that's why this issue may matter. Someone's personal life is not my business... unless of course you are a politician who once campaigned on family values... who may be in line for further political opportunity. It is a shame for the Democratic party who believed Edwards had some policies worth exploring or they wouldn't have selected his as a vice presidential candidate with Kerry. It is now being reported that Edwards will not be attending the Democratic Na

ooops... got cut off. Edwards will not be attending Democratic National Convention.

Ok... logging off until Monday night.

As of this morning, the U.S. has two Olympic golds. China tops the list.

Quick continuation...

The Olympics has nothing to do with the Edwards issue but it is a lot more uplifting and inspiring! My kind of issue. And great idea! Let's always stay just on my original topic... which was Edwards & Olympics. Thanks for the great idea and thanks for being an example.

Meant to include this in above email. National Enquirer "broke the story." Log onto Fox News Channel site for an interview with the editor. Mainstream media facing the question on the morning news shows as to why this was covered only after Edwards came out with an admission of guilt. New cred for the Enquirer????

Any thoughts on this comment from another news outlet? Republican strategist Alex Castellanos said Friday that Edwards' infidelity may affect both parties' images.

Back to the Olympics... USA plays China in basketball today. With Kobe and the boys... a commentator said It may be the most watched basketball game in history.
President Bush there to watch firsthand. So jealous!!

Uplifting and inspiring? ha ha That's funny...We gave up on the boring, fragmented, and misleading coverage of the Olympic Political Sweepstakes Games. We turned over to a REAL sporting event...The PGA Championship. That's right, golf was far more exciting than Women's cycling, soccer, beach volleyball, and a tape-delayed basketball game between the U.S. and COMMUNIST CHINA. BTW - we knew the score of the game 2 hours before the morally depleted MSM showed it to us. Watching our basketball team beat up on a worthless opponent did not bring the "inspiration" you were referring to...

Edwards said Friday he "will have nothing more to say" about the allegations. But with questions still looming about the identity of the child's father and the Enquirer standing by its reporting, the blogosphere will probably keep this story alive.

"I was taught when I was a young reporter that it's news when we say it is. I think that's still true -- it's news when 'we' say it is. It's just who 'we' is has changed," Carr said.

Arrogance....

Christine,

I think I see a political avalanche in the horizon. I feel for Elizabeth Edwards; things like that can break a family apart, and I'm sure you've seen a number of victims with the Wednesday's Child interviews you've done over the years (and yes, the Sunday's child interviews years ago). I just hope those who are salivating over the news will stop dead in their tracks, and rethink their positions. John and Elizabeth Edwards both need a healing to occur in their life together as a married couple. Satan has a devious way of destroying marriages, and we can't let the devil win.

As for the Olympics, it's soothing to watch something for recreation and personal enjoyment. I hope you have fun watching the games; I've noticed you have a very busy schedule.

Now I have one thing to address with one of your responders:

Crafty, aren't you getting a bit jaded? I saw how you took a swipe at Sebar...let's not go there guy! Also, remember that this is only a blog...let's not take a swipe at Christine either. I think she's doing a great job as a blogger, and when she wears the hat as a professional journalist on air, she does it very well and with class!

Christine, your colleagues Amy Murphy and Maria Quiban are 2 of the nicest people I've met this weekend, and I remember when I met you at the Billy Graham Crusade in 2004; the 3 of you are 3 of the finest people I've met from the station. I always enjoy reading your blogs! Take care now.

You know something, I honestly didn't want to waste my time listening to this rubbish. I was much more interested in what I was authoring in my latest Wyler Scott novel number 6 of a planned 19 "Indio Indian" and had more fun time with the characters till the misses called, then I called it a night...(Author's do have their limits you know) :D Back to work on it a day or two later. Much more fun writing then listening to the depressing news especially when that piece of crap cheated on a dying wife. Bespeaks what he really is at the core!!!

It has been my honor to work(anchor 10pm news) at Fox 11 news since 1990(yes, I started when I was 2!) Jokes aside, Fox 11 has allowed me to continue my passion for knowledge and education. My parents were both educators and stressed "knowing about our world." They were aid workers in Brazil(my heritage) and Africa and emphasized a caring for community. I love coming to work each day and being a part of "what's new." Fox 11 has allowed me to serve through our Wednesday's Child program. Our goal, to help children in foster care... who will end up on the streets at 18... find permanent safe homes. Through WC we are using the power and outreach of TV to find adoptive homes for children in GREAT need. My parents were foster parents and adopted one boy. I was adopted by my step-dad, which gave me the name "Devine." At home, I enjoying cooking and fitness. I have a new puppy for the first time since high school and am completely in love. (and with my fiance too!)
