I learned something very interesting working on a gas drive-offs story on Thursday.  Its always a great idea if you pay for gas at the pump to GET A RECEIPT!  It could save you from trouble with the law.  A family member of a Sheboygan County employee recently was pulled over by police on suspicion of not paying for gas.  Well, she DID pay and had the receipt to prove it.

I also learned that in Sheboygan County, about half of gas drive-offs turn out to be honest mistakes.

I put in $$$102.00 in my little pick-up truck yesterday!!
Oh my Goodness! I cant believe how it is seriously affecting even the littlest things in my every day life!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
HERE IS A REAL STORY!!!!
A local stone company here in Sussex is expanding, so they moved a river, and have sent 3000 to 4000 cars all on a detour for weeks now while they close Lisbon road and build a new bridge and tunnel under the road. BOTTOM LINE? FOR MY household alone (Family of four) it will cost me over two thousand dollars out of MY POCKET!! (That is leaving out house only two times a day, many days are more than that! Library,grocery store, bible study,work, errands to my family... you get the picture)
That is gas money alone ... not even any of my family's business hourly rate/time taken into the factor!
oooooooooo it really gets me mad!!
The big company gets bigger and the little guys have to pay for it!!!
Frankly we are sick of it here in Sussex!!!
Some one might be inclined to think:
Who is paying off who?
V - your situation is even affecting my friend in Slinger. A road is proposed to be moved right through her back yard!! Just so those trucks from that quarry and avoid a different route.
I told her to search the DNR website for endangered plants and animals to save her property.....
ANYHOW, if all gas stations made pumps pre-pay 24/7 they would not have to worry about drive offs.
We go to the same gas station all the time and do not have to worry about being accused because they know me. After pulling into a pump, closest to the building - I also go in to pay in person so I don't have to worry about the card machine not working - seen that happen before as this employee you mention.
Hey there!! Nice to see you too!! Trying to stay home as much as possible and conserve gas... I wish more would try to bike, motorscooter etc.... I know living out by you that is very hard and in your line of work - hauling around garden equipment and everything... I fell for you.. $102 - ouch!!
Yeah, I always like to do extra things for my clients... you know like run over and pick up something that I know they would love in their yard or house. That happened the other day... it turned out to be a 17.00 errand to buy a $6.00 item. Oh well, so much for good deeds?...
Half of the drive-offs are an honest mistake? I don't think so..
I think I have a bridge to sell you in the eastern part of this country that you will really like.
Hi Chris,
As you might know, I live in Sheboygan and I read The Sheboygan Press online often and I did not hear about what you reported on.
Thank you for reporting on this.
Tip #2. When siphoning a gas tank, always use a CLEAN garbage can.
I have to take my boys to school every day and pick them up every afternoon. On my way doing that I pick up two other children to go to the same school. I use to not charge them for the trip because I have to go there any way. Well now I do get money from them because I do have to go out of my way a bit. One mother compalined a little and I just told her that her child can walk then. She desided to pay up. how ungreatfull hay?
If you are all willing to be ripped off, don't gripe about the price of gas while you're standing there filling your tanks!!! Bottom line.
Well due to living on a fixed income (& don't get squat in child support) my vehicle now sits in the garage on E. I've taken my kids out of after school programs and they won't be joining any this summer.
You can try to follow all the tips you want but it's still not going to help you save. This ethanol crap that they put in gives you LESS gas milage which means you'll be right back at the pump sooner every time. (The rich keep getting richer)
Thank you all who support me. I just bought a new car less than a year ago, well it was 3 years old, the other one was 14,but that's not the point,anyway, I can't even enjoy it like I'd hoped to. The only thing we can do is try to limit our driving as much as we can. Stop and run errands on the way home from work instead of going back out,things like that. If you can, use regular unleaded, it is cheaper. YET.
And remember, we're on this ride together.
Keep a good thought and don't lose hope.
Catholicgirl55 -- You got it!! Were ALL in this TOGETHER!! My oldest daughter is 20, in college and has a part-time job. on top of this she has ALL the bills and a car payment! My heart goes out to all but most of all "the kids" just trying to get an education and get to work!!We help Her as much as we can but at this point in my life I am unable to work(neck surgery in Sept.)and my hubby does earn a decent living but now that I had to leave my job, were trying very hard to stretch each and every penny and strangely we ARE SAVING MONEY BY ME NOT WORKING! I have also decided to stop driving due to my medical condition, I just dont have the "reaction time" with turning my head and DO NOT WANT TO PUT ANYONE IN DANGER WITH ME BEHIND THE WHEEL!! Sweet Catholicgirl55
You HAVE OUR SUPPORT and You are correct - DONT LOSE HOPE!!!! Good Luck Sweetie and hang in there, You are a very wise young Lady and I wish You ALL THE BEST LIFE HAS TO OFFER!!
dude it cost $58 to fill up my Chevy Impala. In December it was $45. And Bush had the nerve to say "What?! What are you guys talking about gas is never going to reach $4 a gallon. That'll never happen." I saw $3.79 today.
On What You Drive? This Must Be Your First Time. Hey, Are You Driving Like A Retro Impala 95-96 Impala or like 2000 model Impala? I'm only asking because a retro impala has V8 from what I hear and that's why and it burns up gas like a truck or an SUV. If you got like a 2000 model (not the new new ones that are out), but the models from 2000-2005 then you should be fine, because mostly all of those are V6.
