Just curious to hear your feedback.  I did a story Tuesday night (you can see it on our website) about a woman who was fined $400 dollars after sending a text message during a movie.  The woman plans on fighting the ticket which was technically for Disorderly Conduct.  Curious to know if you think the woman was treated fairly or unfairly.

I think the woman was treated unfairly in this circumstance. No one around her complained about her sending the text message, so there was no reason for the theater staff to intervene.

I understand the rules about the cell phones being turned off or turned down completely for no sound while a movie was shown. That's the rule.

If all volumes on the phone were completely silent: speaker volume, texting volume, regular line volume, ETC... then there shouldn't've been any problems where someone can send text messages through a cell phone unless, it would be messing with the sound through the screen of the movie than that's different.

She can fight that. I wouldn't be surprised if she wins that situation.

This is so pathetic. Is it that hard to get through a 2 hour movie without using a cell phone? Personally, I think it's just rude. No excuse.

1) the theater made a public anouncement to shut them off!
2)she obviously made no effort to get up and walk ALL THE WAY OUT TO THE HALL to make her call
3)when asked to stop it and follow the rules of the theater she blatently refused.
Just another example of the (I'm entitled attitude)
I have no doubt in my mind that when she was asked to follow the theater rules she was the one who got mouthy and beligerant. Just because she has the phone it's her right to use it to distub everyone else. Why is it that she could not have just gotten up and said "Oh I'm sorry I'll step out in the hall" No It's you be dissin me and I got the right to do what ever I want"
Since the advent of cell phones we have seen an ever growing use of them by people who think they have the right to just (disturb the paece) (a criminal offence) The whole attitude of I've got one so I have the right to inflict my boreing life on everyone around me. rarely will you find a group so inconsiderate as the cell phone users in this country. By and large if you take the time to listen to these people when they are on their phones, annoying everyone in the area, you can tell they have the feeling that they are the most important person on the planet. Well just not so!!
I would just like to know, why it is that people think that just because they have one handy they are excused from the common curtesy of getting up and excusing themselves to take the phone and go some place private to have their inane conversations. It's quite one thing to be reached for an emergency, and another to just inflict stupid chatt

Ditto Dances...Society today reeks of ignorance, self indulgence and just plain old selfishness. We should all go live for a month or two with the Amish. 75% of us would probably melt.

Well all movie theaters run different. Some movie theaters have people in the theater rooms to make sure cell phones aren't used like at AMC Mayfair. That's all I know of. Possibly anywhere else I don't think so, but people know regardless to turn their volume to silent or basically in this case OFF.

Her cell phone should not have been on - period. Annoucement or not.

If she chose to keep it on, incase the babysitter had to reach her - she should have stepped into the hallway to return the text message.

I'm sorry, I don't feel sorry for her. Had she stepped out of the theater, to return the message, maybe I would have.

I'm with you wfb, I am so sick and tired of the "me" attitude that people have.
If you cannot sit for 2 hours and watch a movie go into the hallway.

She was there to see a movie. Not to send a text message. Her actions were selfish and now she knows not to do this again next time.

Belia, I am tired of the rules do not apply to me people. Rules are made for a reason and should not be broken - even if you don't agree with them.

In this case, it was "I was only returning a message about my 5 year old daughter". Well fine, do it in the hall. WHAT is the big deal to walk out into the hall and respect the rule of the facility and the people around you?

First and foremost Dances this statement:

Why is it that she could not have just gotten up and said "Oh I'm sorry I'll step out in the hall" No It's you be dissin me and I got the right to do what ever I want"

is highly offensive. Not all black people talk like that and you have no evidence this woman was like that. Secondly, I do believe she was in the wrong for using her cell phone in the theater. She should've went out to the hallway can called the babysitter, texting is a waste of time.

I do believe that the theater worker was rude with her. This was an instance where bad customer service and the wrong person mixed. She should've left the room and talked to the manager. I would've wanted an apology for the attendant rudely screaming put that away or whatever he said. After mixing bad customer service with the wrong person, then you add a small time cop into the mix. Pretty much any situation and a power drunk small town cop is going to be trouble. I'm sure this guy needs to put on his badge every morning, just so he can feel like a man. Sorry guys I really hate abusive small town cops that are power drunk. Our society is constantly the victim of bad customer service. Is politeness such a hard thing? If these guys can't handle a situation like this with poise, they won't make it very far in life.

first off, she should've put the phone on vibrate [ no dirty minds here people]....took her phone out in the hall or restroom and answered it, in lieu of an emergency

...that would have been instant conflict-resolution...instead we get "adults" behaving like kids.... as always

and who DOESN'T have a cell phone in 2008....i've seen kids with their own personal cell phones!!!

ARGH!!!!!

Has anyone experienced an idiot talking on his/her phone during a movie? i have and it sux, I didn't do the right thing and tell the employees. I actually stood up and asked the teenager if he minded. I haven't set foot in Mayfair since. I haven't been to Mayfair mall since 2004. I know they have new rules, but I don't want to deal with the immature element.

I think there was misconduct on both sides, the woman admitted she was striking an attitude and if the security guard really was behaving rudely, I don't think either of them can really claim the upperhand.

It's kind of like football . . . two penalties called, just drop it and move on. There are bigger problems to worry about.

She was ticketed for disorderly, not for texting.

In any event, the LCD on my cellphone will literally light up a dark room. If I were to start playing with a flashlight during a movie, the usher would have more than just a right to make me knock it off.

In consideration of the rest of their clients, the theater has an obligation to put a quick halt to boorish behavior, especially when it adversely impacts the enjoyment of their facility.

I might hafta go patronize this theater. If I don't answer my cell phone, you'll know why...

Fox6fan wrote "who DOESN'T have a cell phone in 2008" That would be me. My wife has one but I never use it.
If I am walking through the woods or grocery shopping I don't need to be bothered by a phone call.

I think people should be fined for disorderly conduct when they talk through the movie. At least texting is quiet. I don't have a cell phone either. I want SOME peace and quiet in my life!

Does anyone know that this is how the current movies are pirated? You just record the movie on your cell phone and then make as many copies as you want from your computer. Most pirated movies sell for $5 or $10 each.
