Just curious to see what you think should happen to Buckhorn Inn in Franklin?  That's the bar police say Eddie Keck left drunk, and then killed a West Allis couple a short time later Christmas Day.  The City of Franklin is investigating the tavern to see if its license should be revoked.  One of the bar's employees admitted to the media that Keck would often leave the tavern after having too much to drink, but would usually sleep off his buzz in his car.  (For more info, check out my story from Wednesday night).

Everyone, from the people who produced this toxic brew, all the way down to the person who served it, should either have to pay heavy fines, loose their company, or both. The guy who did the actual driving while drunk should get a slap on the wrist, and a 12 pack. This is Wisconsin after all, and being the "progressives" we are, we have NO right to expect him to be responsible for HIS actions. As is the norm here in Wisconsin everyone BUT the person who did the actual crime are the ones to be held accountable. Liberals LOVE to destroy businesses, but can not stomach the thought of holding individuals responsible.

NOTE: For you Liberals, this was posted as sarcasm.

LOL Earwig. I don't know how I feel about that. As for the two deaths, the driver should be totally 100% responsible. As for the bartender and or owner, they did know he was too drunk to drive. They could have at the very least called the police and warned them of the car and where it was leaving from, which way it was going, and whatever else. That may sound extreme, but when I was a certified daycare provider, I was mandated by the state to report even a suspision of abuse towards the children I watched. That is just a suspision. These bartenders knew he was drunk. That is where I have a problem. But in the very end, it comes down to the guy who got behind the wheel when he could have gone back into the bar and had them call a cab.

As a resident of Franklin I feel the Buckhorn Inn should have been torn down years ago just because it is a dive and a major eyesore! There is a definite problem if the Buckhorn knew of Keck's drinking habits as to where he would go out and sleep it off in the car before driving home. They must have "over served" him on many occasions as he was a regular. Knowing of this mans drinking problem, why did they keep serving him to the point where he was unable to drive home safely? Keck is absolutely responsible for driving drunk and killing 2 people however I feel that the tavern should be held accountable for allowing him to get drunk and walk out that door and get behind the wheel of his car and drive it. Why write laws if they are not going to be enforced??

The bartenders probably didn't call because they were all drunk to. Have you ever been in there? I was there once a while ago and lets just say the bartenders are famous for getting smashed right along with the patrons. The place is a total hole in the wall that should be shut down, if not for serving him to that point then because the building should be condemed

great job on the posting of this blog, chris_goodman. keep up the good work. i agree with mrstracy that the driver should be held liable for the deaths of the 2 people he killed while he was so drunk. it is up to the city of franklin to decide what the heck should happen to that bar.

The way I see it... being a liberal and all... is that Keck gets 2 manslaughter terms back to back and DWI. The bar gets a stiff fine and the first of three strikes. The proceeds of the fine can go to the family or to AA.

We don't shut down the bar the first time this happens, but two more times they come under scrutiny... tenders being drunk, patrons being over-served or impropriety, then shut em down. If the owner(s) are so inept to run a straight operation, they don't deserve to be allowed to practice... that means their licenses are revoked... even if they own six other bars... shut em all down.

that'll get owners to take a bit more concern for how they run their joints... liberal enough?

If the bar knew he was driving drunk then they should be penalized. Big time.

Overserving is against the law. People should know when they are becoming drunk and take responsibility to stop, call a cab, go home. But that would be the sane and intelligent thing to do. And that is certain too much to ask of people in this neck of the woods.

My question is how many more bars out there do the same thing? To them it is a money making business. So wine them and dine them as the saying goes. I don't go out to bars anymore and I am only in my early 30's. The man who actually did the accident should be charged for killing the innoccent. He made the choice to drink and drive. The bar made the choice to serve him. They knew he was drunk and they knew he always get's drunk but they always serve him. I guess as the saying goes "there is a first time for everything". Please Franklin do something not just a slap on the wrist because this is the first time that we know of.

As someone who bartended for 10 years and worked in Eastside alcoholic dives, let me tell you what we would do.
Where I worked the bartenders were allowed to drink with the patrons. We played dice games for shots and most people there were there to get drunk. We had a responsibility to our patrons and would take their keys away if they became too drunk to drive. Although most people on the Eastside walked, still, if we knew they would be driving we would make sure they didn't.
Either someone who was sober would drive them home and put them inside, or they would have to sleep it off in a corner somewhere.
The bar and the bartender have a responsibility to their customers. Most people who drink too much suffer from depression. As their friend, I would get to know them and try to help them work out their problems. This bar, obviously, doesn't care about it's customers. Sure, let him sleep it off in the car, but take away his keys. Now two innocent people are dead.
The driver should be charged with vehicular manslaughter and the bar should be heavily fined and constantly watched. The first thing I would do is send in a health department inspector. That may get them closed down. This seems like an establishment that doesn't care about their customers. I would imagine a few health department laws are being broken.
This is a tough case to judge without knowing the people in the case, but, as a former bartender, I know we have a responsibility to our customer. Many times you don't know if the customer went elsewhere and drank more, but, in this case, we know he left direct

Sorry....

we know he left directly after leaving the bar and attempted to drive home.
My sympathies to the family and friends of the people who suffered from this.

Drinking and driving is such a major concern especially in wisconsin. You would think people would learn a lesson. Anyways, not only should the man himself be to blame but the bartenders, and the family who first let him leave after knowing he had a few there. The bartenders stated "he usually goes and falls asleep in his car" someone should have taken the keys away or let him sleep at the bar. In the past this particular bar has been in a lot of trouble.....some which several people didn't report to anyone. Even the news didn't get the story.

All these different view's,#1 you drink you take the responsibility, bar owner's run a business,to make money,as all business owners,we can't baby sit for everyone but ourselve's just because they pour you a beer does'nt mean we should pee our pant's for the most part most tender's and owners want to protect their interest's,becareful who you blame, what if someone left 1 bar after drinking 10 shot's entered another, not under influence yet,has 1 more beer and now it hit's him ,he leave's 2nd bar now blitzed, kill's some one what bar is to blame? the individule! #1 answer we know for sure he is guilty. also though buckhorn stated the man above (alway's)goe's to his car blitzed, they new it and this was a regular this was an accident waiting to happen.i drink 1-2-3 but for flavor.not to get stupid.what if you went to Mother's house for Thanksgiving had a few drove home and killed someone, should we hold mom responsible.
