Mayor Tom Barrett asked Wednesday at a News Conference "what is a 15-year-old doing with a semi-automatic weapon?"  I would love to know the answer to that too.  Its being speculated that the shootings of those Milwaukee Police officers involved gang violence.  You have to wonder where the parents of that teenager were and did they have any idea that he was on the streets involved in this kind of activity.  I am glad those officers will be ok, along with the other teens that were shot on the Southside Tuesday night.  Now if we could just get a handle on the violence that continuously erupts on Milwaukee streets!

How safe is the city really? North Side, South Side, West Side, East Side, County Entity Areas... Everywhere we go there is something bad happening. WHY?

We have a major increase in our population in Milwaukee, and I thought as bad as the violence is in this city, the population would drop, but it doesn't seem that way. I'm all for the fact I'm glad the officers who were shot are surviving and getting better and will be able to return to work. One is already going to and the other one will soon as that one gets fully recovered.

Chris, what do you think should be done?

Anyone can obtain ANY kind of gun that they want on the streets. Guns and drugs are more easily accessible than ever before, especially to kids. Kids are the targeted customers by the creeps that sell them. It doesn't matter if you live in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Kenosha, Racine...they sre everywhere. Kids want these items to impress their friends and to get high. The morals and the dignity of kids today are GONE. They are a thing of the past. Not all kids mind you, but the majority of them. Hang on to your hats people, it's only going to get worse...guaranteed!!!!

Wanna break up the gangs? We already have a habitual criminal enhancer, why not a gang enhancer.

Any felonious crime committed by a person or persons older than age 13 with KNOWN gang affiliations shall serve a MANDITORY 7 years above and beyond any additional sentencing.

They used the RICO (racacketeer influenced and corrupt organizations) laws to bust up the Mafia. I wonder why they don't do the same with the Milwaukee street gangs? For one thing, people in Milwaukee really need to stop giving these kids excuses. I really hope that we don't hear that this sort of crime is a result of lack of jobs or some government program. There is no excuse for the crime, period.

I emailed this to the Mayor. Just a couple comments in regards to the recent police shootings. I seen you on TV asking where is this kids parents, I can bet my bottom dollar they are one of three things smoking crack, in jail, or comes from a single parent home where that parent is working endless hours getting paid a wage that makes it very hard for ends to meet. You should see how this inner city temp services try to whore there workers its sad. You ask what monster would put a gun in this kids hands, he probably got it for free from a "friend", as you know there is a city with inn a city and no matter what the police increase as far as more patrols and what not it isn't going to stop the crime. It's actually never going to stop but you can save some kids, I can speak from experience and from the South Side of the city and being a very negative person at points in my life but when you get to your late 20s you realize what you've lost and how stupid the decisions you've made are. I have friends that will never be free do to these decisions and I know they regret them everyday just as this 15 yr old will when he's 23 - 24 and never coming home. The ways to prevent some kids from going down this route are reaching out to these trouble youths in Middle School have ex gang members talk to these kids, why isn't that 100 to 1crack to cocaine ratio in the federal system publicized more? Take some federal prosecutors into the schools so they can see what happens to "successful criminals" that some of these kids look up to. I know my wrong path started in Middle School and most peo

First of I'm thankful the injuries were non-life threatening. I do believe there are so many issues on the streets that need to acknowledged. Where were the parents in this situation? Even if we get a better control of guns.....some individuals will still know someone and get there hands on them. Coming from a police and military family I know how difficult it becomes to sleep at night worried rather or not they will come home safe. My heart goes out to the family

I firmly believe it is due to a lack of discipline in the home. Ask these kids, where their parents are, or what kind of role models they were for them as they grew up. The problem is...it's going to get worse. This generation of teenagers are going to be having their own kids soon, and they will be disciplined just as little, if not less.

Blame the parents, blame not being whooped or punished, blame lack of programs for the kids, put the blame why some of these kids need to be thoroughly checked by a health care professional. You can put the blame wherever you want, but the bottom line is that unfortunately, not all parents are bad parents. Perhaps some of these parents did cry out for help, but there wasn’t anything that anyone could do….until, of course, someone got shot or killed. The system is set up for failure. I was told numerous times that the police departments are “reactive and not proactive”. If your child is under the radar and has not been linked to any crime, not a threat to themselves or others and is relatively intelligent, then the services for these children are NONE! The YMCA and Boys and Girls Clubs, etc. are great places….for those “good” kids. However, after a certain age, the kids can come and go as they please. The teens have too many rights these days and when you try to cry out for help, no one listens. I asked for help from judges, lawyers, social workers, teachers, counselors and doctors, reporters and even Oprah. Nothing happens. Everyone is all talk or “it’s out of their control”. Unless you have someone that is truly and genuinely interested in saving a kid, most of the kids fall through the cracks. I continue to pray for the officers that were shot and their families and for my child, but I equally pray for the kids that are out there waiting for someone to take them by the hand and teach them right.

Continuation........I also pray for the parents that are trying to raise their children correctly, but are just having a hard time – whoopin or no whoopin. If whoopings really worked, the jails and prisons wouldn’t be as crowded as they are today. There is WAY too much talk about what should be done to these kids AFTER THE FACT! Let’s work on being PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE and maybe we’ll get someplace. Remember this? “Love’s in Need of Love Today” – Stevie Wonder, 1976

First of all, GET JOBS! I'm sick of my tax $$'s paying for you. Its not that hard to live a normal crime free life.

Dont just give them tickets...Tickets are a joke because they wont get paid because they dont care. Make examples out of each and every one. That is about the only way. They need to get what they got comin'. Make new laws so police can be more strict. Make examples out of people. It wouldnt hurt my feelings... Criminals have too many rights anyway. If you're doing something you shouldnt be doing you should lose rights and priveledges.

I would love to hear a story on the news of a gang member trying to rob a person, but instead of the victim getting robbed, the gang member gets shot. Actually, if that happened, the actual victim who shot the gang member would probably end up in jail. How messed up is that?

Not only that, but why does eveyone want to reach out to help? I think its pretty obvious that the people living in the problem areas dont want the help. They should be the ones leading the way to fix the problems. They all look up to thugs. Just observe it for a bit. Its pretty obvious. If they cared they would police it better themselves and help the police/government. I've seen tee-shirts quite a few times that say "stop squeelin'" on them...Little kids to adults wear them! Come on, that's pretty screwed up.

I went to the near north side last week. There must have been an early dismissal in all of the schools because there was nothing but teenage kids walking around. And the adults must have all taken a vacation day that

crobsid52 the gang squad does Ticket alot! They know who the gang members are and when protroling when they see know gang members they stop them, Lopez was a part of the Gang squad he probably know these two. Whats sad is if this 24 yr old tried to influence the 15 yr old positively the 15 yr old would have listened to the 24 yr old before his parents. As for the ticketing thing yes they ticket alot for anything and these people don't pay they a couple things happen if they are under 18 then they can't get there licence if over 18 they turn into warrents.

Get jobs huh, have you ever had to go to a temp service in the inner city? How about you have no education? You only know one way of life to live by and that way of life is every where you turn. If a victtim shots someone trying to rob them at gun point won't get jail time if you follow the news a pizza deliver man shot and killed someone when getting robbed and didn't get any jail time a couple yrs back also some guy from out of state stopped at a gas station and they tried robbing him and he also killed the guy he also didn't get any time. But lets be real here are you going to risk your life or just give up the stupid 20 bucks in your pocket?

People living in a problem area don't want help now where did you pull that out of your BLEEP? Did you just type that or actually thought that out? Do you think parents want to rise there kids in these places. Asfor the stop snitching shirts most of those peopple wearing them when faced with a prison sentance will be telling!

Let me clarify for you fa_53204

Yes get a job. Youre right the inner city is not a place to work, but then again, there is not much business there either. Try looking in a newspaper sometime that has classifieds under the "JOBS" heading. There are lots of them out there. There are a lot that are general labor positions that dont require a lot of education. There are also websites that people can find jobs on too. Its not that hard.
Also, no I didnt pull anything outta my BLEEP. The people living in the problem areas do want help, so youre right. But they want others to help them instead of helping themselves and holding eachother accountable for their actions. The people living in the mess should be leading the way to try to fix it. I cannot try to help someone who wont put the effort forth to help him/herself. Most of the violence is people living in the inner city hurting/killing other people who live in the inner city. They're hurting their own neighbors and themselves.

FYI though if you did a poll in the inner city on internet usage it'd be pretty low and as far as the news paper it isn't happening with no expirence, to humble yourself go to a couple inner city staffing services and try getting a job through them, then when you do see what it is you have to do and what the pay rate is. You may find out why some people in the inner city choose to sell drugs. I know I couldn't find work in my field for a little bit and going to those temp services sure humbled me and made me appricate my true job skills and the pay rate!
