We've known for a while about the dangers of the Internet and how you really don't know who you're talking with online. However, parents tell me they still have a hard time getting this across to their kids.

A Collinsville Mom was horrified when she found personal information her teenagers were putting out on community Web pages. She then told her kids to take down the pages only to find them posted again later. Now she's decided the only thing she can do is constantly talk to her son and daughter about responsible surfing.

Her fears were confirmed when I told her the results of a Fox Files investigation. We found registered sex offenders with online pages and plenty of 'friends' who were communicating with them on the site. We tracked these guys down and you'll see it Monday on Fox 2 News at Nine.

The authorities and the Web site were also very interested in what we found. We saw a pretty strong response to this story in an effort to keep what we've exposed from happening in the future.

What I really hate about our wonderful sociaty is WE let our most vulnerable be harmed because of personal rights. If the Doctors say that pedophiles can't be rehabilitated then why do we let them stay in this country? they need to be on a Island.

Be safe

To catch a preditor..Good idea!! It does not have to just be Chris Hansen that does that kind of a show!! These reality shows copy cat each other all the time why not copy one that can make a differance...Good job

Hi Chris,
Glad to hear you have done this investigation. Maybe it will get more sex offenders off of the streets. I have 2 in my immediate area and at least 100 in the surrounding areas. So any help is good help.
Thanks!

I also live in Collinsville and the number of sex offenders appears to be rising. I purchased a new home and then several months later a registered sex offender buys the home next to me. I agree ship them off to an island, because even if I wanted to sell my home who would buy it now?

The shows done by Chris Hansen just confirms what a big problem this is and just imagine how many more there are that never get caught.

put 'em on an island. oh hell no!!!!! people may wanna vacation on that island.
part of the problen is that the courts keep giving 'em slaps on the hand and letting em back into society and giving other people 10-20 years for a drug offense. everyone should have a problen with this. i say keep em in jail until they die or hell put em on death row. whatever. but dont keep letting em out to do the same damn thing.
i have long believed that there is no common sense in the system

Not only do we have to teach our children to be cautious, we also have to teach them how to defend themselves when they are approached. We all know that the there are more outlets, in this high tech world, for predators to prey on the innocent and therefore we need to let them know that we aren't going to stand for it. I think sting operations and undercover investigations are the best way to capture these sickos, who blend into the real world and hide behind their computers with secret identities.
As we are continuously being exposed to the new era of crime on the web, we have to educate ourselves on how to combat the corruption.

I know we can't just line up pedophiles in front of a firing squad or castrate them .....but I can wish.....

Why aren't judges handing down harsher sentences on these perverts? Why not force them to wear a label of some kind, especially if they are attending places/events where children will be present. "Oh, but that's humiliating" WHO CARES??? Try being molested by one of them....THAT'S humiliating!!

Why are the rights of criminals so much more protected that the innocents? It makes me sick to think of the complete lack of common sense in the justice system these days.

Setapart, you have such an excellent point. I can tell you from experience that the justice system has to play out or their A-hole attorneys will find any loophole possible. It takes way too long...believe me, I have been waiting three years for justice. One point to offer...common sense isn't so common because if it were, more people would have it.

Kill them all. save our children and our tax dollars. I believe rapist, child molesters and murders for greed or passion should all have a death penalty and forget the 8 year death row wait. we would all live in a safer world.

any sex 0ffender should serve life in prision...and if not, any twice convicted sex offender should be given capital punishment...do you want to see sex offenders on the streets with your children??? hang them quickly

What about the people who made a stpid mistake when they were younger and now pay for it for the rest of your life? In some states if you urninate on the side of the road you are placed as a sexual offender. I know that in NeW York that if you even graze a women's breast that you can also be put on the Sex Offenders list. You all are so easy to judge these people. Some of them are a real threat. while others just made a mistake in their life that wasn't what I call a sex crime and now must be lumped in with real criminals. These are people to, andn ow they must carry that lable for the rest of their lifes. Just remember not everybody on that list is a real threat to your children. Some of them just made mistakes as KIDS and must now deal with it for their whole life.

Sex offender list dont always give enough details. It just labels people "sex offender"

The sex offended listed on my street had been 18 yrs and he was dating a 16 yr old. Daddy didnt like the guy so he called the cops and now this guy is labeled a pervert. He's 40 yrs old now and has 4 kids but the label still follows him to this day.

raping or molesting kids is not a mistake. It is a planned evil act. Kill them all!

Nobody said anything about raping or molesting people being okay "Stephan". But lik the instance that the perosn above you just wrote, that is a classic example of how this system is flawed and needs to be redone. You all are so easy to point your finger at someone you think is a predator. Think how the familys felt after seeing their loved ones being tackled by the media any chance they get. Also editing interviews they had with them to make them seem way guilty. Most of the people on this list are normal people just trying to live their life.

Being on myspace is illegal??? I was not aware that it was a crime for people on the sex offender's list to have access to the internet.

Where is the list for murderers, drug dealers, theives, and drunk drivers? If we are going to protect kids, why not protect them for these people as well??

What I think is a crime is reporters using a list meant to aid parents in protecting their children as a tool to hunt down and persecute people who are trying to live their lives in peace. All in the name of the mighty sweeps week.

Hello all,
I am a very avid follower of this subject (offenders) since an incident when my youngest was ten months old. I am still working on making life miserable for these morons. Anyway, I blogged the News Democrat on their story of Illinois' most 12 hated. My oldest daughter spends a lot of time on the web so I am constantly monitoring it. It is all about being a parent and becoming involved with this issue. These fools cannot be rehabilitated and I am with the Fireman on this one, put them on an island. Furthermore; I sure would not let them deliver my newspaper, would you? I want to become a cyber angel and help the authorities put these pieces of crap behind bars where they belong. The liberals will say; however, that they are humans and they have rights, but my question is this, victims rights? Yeah they have the right to spend the rest of their miserable lives behind bars. If they are from Illinois - come and see me as we will always leave a light on for you if that is what it takes to protect our children. Now, for the ICP fans out there, the song "Halls Of Illusion" fits what needs to be done with them perfectly! Anyway, God Bless, keep up the fight and PROTECT our children before it is too late!! Army Strong, Wilky69
