In 1992 black males age 12 to 24 experienced violent crime
at a rate significantly higher than the rates for other age or
racial groups. Males age 16 to 19 were particularly at risk;
their violent victimization rate was almost double the rate for white males and 3 times that for white females in the same
age range.

Among persons age 16 to 24, the rate of violent crime that
black males sustained was more than 1½ times the rate for
white males.

While black males between the ages 16 and 24 comprised
only about 1% of the population age 12 or over in
1992, they experienced 5% of all violent victimizations.
White males 16 to 24 made up about 6% of the population
and were victims in 17% of violent crimes.

Serious violent crime victimizations, 1987-92
Excluding murder,* the most serious violent crimes (rapes,
robberies, and aggravated assaults) comprised 60% of all
violent victimizations of black males age 12 to 24 in 1987
and 65% in 1992. The proportion of these crimes against
white males in the same age range remained stable at
about 45%.

During the same 6-year period, more than half of the
violent crimes committed against young white males were
simple assaults ¾ crimes that involved no weapon and resulted
in little or no injury. For young black males, slightly
more than 1 in 3 violent crimes were simple assaults.

*Murder is not measured by the NCVS because of the inability
to question the victim.

Between 1973 and 1992, the rate of violent victimizations
of young black males increased about 25%.

Overall, among persons age 12 to 24 in 1973, there was
1 violent victimization for 10 black males and
1 for 8 in 1992.

Black males age 20 to 24 sustained 1 violent crime for ¾
10 persons in 1973 8 in 1992

Black males age 16 to 19 sustained 1 violent crime for ¾
11 persons in 1973 6 in 1992

Black males age 12 to 15 sustained 1 violent crime for ¾
10 persons in 1973
14 in 1992.

29 Year Old Man Shot and Killed in Cahokia

Last Edited: Tuesday, 02 Jan 2007, 1:10 AM CST

-- Cahokia, IL --
An argument between two men may have led to a fatal shooting in Cahokia.

Police are holding a person of interest, but are not yet calling him a suspect.

An Illinois State Police crime scene technician took away several bags of evidence from this house on St. Columbia Street.

Investigators aren't releasing much information but say just before six Monday morning, someone shot a twenty nine year old man, who died later at nearby hospital.

Detectives aren't saying the victim was murdered but they are questioning a person of interest concerning the shooting. Police also say the man they are holding may have been arguing with the victim before he was shot.

Neighbors say he was taken away in handcuffs and lived at the house.

Police aren't releasing the victim's name but say he may have been visiting their person of interest. T

Detectives had a late model blue Dodge Aurora with Missouri plates and a shredded front tire towed away from the crime scene. Sources say it may have belonged to the dead man.(Reprinted from Fox2KTVI, Tuesday, January 2, 2007)

Rodney was not only a teammate of mine for three years at the semi-pro football level here in St. Louis, but a great friend. He had his problems like many of us, but this heinous act was needless and is distressing to all of Rodney's family, friends, teammates and fans. I was absolutely blown away when I heard the story break this morning as I was working out in the gym with a couple of my football ex-teammates.

Please say a prayer for Rodney's soul that God will take him in his wide and all-forgiving arms and finally place his soul in eternal peace.

"I will miss you very much, Rodney! Watching you run back 100+ kickoff returns and seeing you come off the field without even the slightest hint of a celebration. You will be sorely missed all throughout the semi-pro football community as well as right here on the East Side."

May your soul rest in eternal peace.
