The NRA and Gun Violence

This Sunday, April 15th, The Jaco Report looks at the National Rifle Association convention here in St. Louis, and at whether the NRA's anti-gun control stance is at least indirectly responsible for the upsurge in gun violence in America's cities.

 

A group of ministers affiliated with the St. Louis Clergy Coalition  claims that the NRA's campaign against gun control and gun tracing leads top more illegal guns on the streets, which has led to an upsurge in gun violence in St. Louis. The NRA replies that the spike in violence has more to do with local police not arresting criminals, local prosecutors not being tough enough, and local judges being too lenient.

 

Si is there a correlation between illegal guns on the streets and the NRA's positions. A group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns thinks so. The group, which includes St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, has campaigned to allow cities to share data on illegal guns, hoping it will help them pinpoint exactly where the illegal guns originate. But that sort of information sharing is currently illegal under a federal law passed in 2004 at the urging of the NRA.

Very good point made.I may have gone on the record for supporting our right to bear arms to protect ourselves/our loved ones,but I'm also just as quick to admit that sometimes,the N.R.A's a little too gun FRIENDLY.The real problem's that the way our current "laws"[?]are set up,it's much too hard for the law abiding people to get guns while too easy to the WRONG "people"to get them.Also,with all this ruckus about assault weapons,many forget that it's the easy to conceal HANDGUN we need to fear much more.Because how can one conceal an AK-47?
One real problem I admit the N.R.A. overlooks is that an originally law abiding gun owner however becomes a murderer in a DOMESTIC case!

The 2nd amendment allows the right to bear arms
NOT-- shoot people for kicks!!!!
You have listed the true "PROBLEM" though, at
least the way I see it. NO not the police and
not the prosecuters......YEP..THE JUDGES,
CODDLING the criminals and releasing them early. I've said it before on this blog site,
when one of these repeat offenders is released
early or has been released because someone
forgot to cross a "T" or dot an "I"----And Repeats---- let the JUDGE DO THE TIME !
As long as our slow motion , liberal justice
system stays the same.... I will exercise my
AMERICAN RIGHT....and bear my weapons.
PERIOD.

So if a man kills his wife or wife kills her husband that don't mean you punish all the law abiding people.

The Large amount crimes in our city is committed by African American youth.
Pastor Rice wants the state to baby sit their children instead of the Parent/s of the black youth within our city or across the country.

The NRA is there to protect law abiding citizen who want to own fire arms. the more the Camel sticks its nose into the tent of our lives the harder it is to get it out.

Great responses by all,ESPECIALLY SERVANTOFCHRIST!Also,a great point by Fireman33 that you don't want to punish the other law abiding gun owners for the occational thing that goes postal and blows it's wife away,sinse there are OTHER weapons they'll be more than happy to use instead if they can't get a gun.

For the record,I intend to get a .45 for conceal&carry,and also,an AK-47 kit where I'll replace the original barrel with an 8-10 inch longer[for improved accuracy]more heat-resistant titanium steel one,and replace the firing cartridge of the AK...with the M-16's.Resulting in a modified/improvised/hybrid 7.62 mm AKM-16!

Thank god for the NRA and their defense of our 2nd amendment rights. Without the NRA, the anti-gun rhetoric that liberal politicians, community leaders and media people like Charles Jaco spew would be unarming honest, law-abiding people and turning us all into crime victims.

These St. Louis Clergy Coalition people you mention are the same black community leaders that mounted a fight against Proposition B for CCW years ago. Their false and largely political attack on guns as the root cause of violence in their communities distracts from their real problems. They use it to give the appearance they are defending their community against an evil group. To my knowledge, guns do not cause unemployment, don’t drive up drug and alcohol abuse rates, and aren’t the cause racial tensions. Guns do not cause teen pregnancies and fathers to abandon their children. Guns do not sing popular rap songs glorifying drug dealing, pimping and shooting at cops.

It is these so called leaders denial and acceptance of these root problems that is killing their communities. The media and people like Charles Jaco give them the stage to do their pathetic and misguided grandstanding. Need proof of my point? The dominant group of gun owners in America is not the minority group of people claim to represent. So why is the violent crime so much higher in their communities? How does unarming an honest, responsible gun owner fix any of their problems?

BTW, we went down to the NRA convention this afternoon. There were lots of law-abiding responsible guns owners and not one thing that should have

The way the Right to Carry is designed pretty good. Since I have a mental disabiltity, a limted reactino time, and my vision is limited, I feel happy without a gun. As I remember, that the law forbids handicap people to have weapons. If I had a gun, and saw soneone attacking a friend of mine, with my limited visibiltiy and reaction time, I could accidentally shoot the wrong person. I just let the well trained people use them. Most able-bodied people have gotten the training on how to use the weapon. For me, prayer is my weapon. The suspect sooner or later gets in trouble.

Here I was all ready to do cyber battle with the anti gunners, and cant find any here. Darn the luck.

I have been a gun owner most of my adult life, and none of my guns have ever hurt anyone. Unless you call using my gun to hold a criminal until the police showed up to arrest the guy hurting him. never even had to fire a shot at the guy. I guess he did not want to take that chance.

So now I am trying to think how stopping me from buying a legal firearm will end gun violence.............Nope can not think how that would help. Maybe if the police and legal system would just enforce half of the laws on the books, and more people owned guns and learn how to properly use and handle guns, that might have a effect on crime also.

More great responses by everyone!Now as far as AMOM's "better parenting..."part,absolutely correct--in SOME cases.I've seen it myself.However,there are plenty of other cases of "badseeds"where no matter how great the parents raise these "natural born killers"[err,sorry for the diss,Oliver Stone!HA!]they still turn out to be monsters.Ted Bundy,for example,had loving parents,a normal childhood,showed no sign there was a monster in him--until one day while dumping trash,he ran across...some porno mags.He quickly realized he was addicted and needed a bigger "fix"each time,then realized it even had to be VIOLENT to satisfy him...and the rest is a tragedy.
This is just one example how one can never blame any one thing on just one thing alone.Just like I'll admit not ALL crime can be blamed on thug murder rap alone,nor cop shows alone.Granted rotten parents who let their kids do whatever they want definetely doesn't help,But occationally a spoiled rotten kid gets his/her act together in the end,and vice-versa.It's everything combined that's turned our society into a hell on earth.
P.S.:Also agree with the birth control part!Parents who only breed "babies for the welfare"while sending them to the I.C.U.just because they won't stop crying,ect. have no business being allowed to have kids to start with!A loving mom--single or married--can have as many kids as she wishes--even 50 or more if she's capable of raising them!Just as long as she doesn't have more than she can handle.

Gettimg back to the gun subject:Likewise,one can blame guns alone for some horrendous crimes like this recent massacre.Because then again,if one of the VICTIMS had a conceal&carry and could have stopped the massacre by shooting it dead...see the point?Plus one whose determined enough to murder will simply use ANOTHER weapon if they can't get a gun.The real problem's that with our current "laws"it's too easy for the WRONG "people"to get guns,too hard for the RIGHT people who need them to get them,and the right people get ARRESTED for just protecting theirselves sometimes while the opposite goes for the criminals!
