We hear so much from our elected officals that more money is needed  to pay for this program, that project, or for any other expense that may come along. Like everyone else, I am tired of hearing about how much more taxes need to be collected to pay for everything.

I say enough is enough, our elected officals need to start looking at all the wasted dollars and misuse going on with our tax dollars. How many times have you seen government workers using vehicles for their personel gain, you know like say for making that micky D's office run, to stop and pay a bill, or to buy lottery tickets? How many times have you seen school buses parked at Wal-Mart, or at one of the fast food eateries? How about one elected offical that just receintly stated he needed and additional 2 million dollars for his department, but can't justify the departments expenses. And to top it off suddenly finds 1 million dollars. What, was it just laying around? I don't think so.

Remember a couple of years ago when there was talk of not enough money to pay for fuel to keep the school buses running?

I know money is needed, but before they ask for increases they need to justify all the wasted money. How do we police our money and our elected officals? Maybe it's time for these elected officals to learn to budget these expenses properly or learn to read the employment section of the newspaper.

The Pundit suggests that grass roots government (city, county, etc.)needs an inspector general department that has the authority to audit (civil component) and investigate (criminal component) waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer funds. These IG's exist at the Federal level for almost every department and are basically autonomous and usually pay for themselves and thensome with just the savings they produce. Not alone the the scare factor for a government employee or official concerned about possible criminal prosecution for illegal actions. Just a thought.

But how are you going to get people to “wake up” and actually start to realize how bad things are and WHO is really to blame? It as all fine and well that so many people are willing to call them selves “politically active” and spend all day blaming the President for ALL our problems ......
This county (Orange) has a two and a half billion dollar budget this year , but we have an official population of only one million people ! So where does all this money go and what control do “we the people” have over it?.....all road projects have to wait for “federal funds” (sometimes for years) all school constructions must wait for “new tax increases” , county parks are charging admission , we pay for 911 operators (and pay after the fact if we use an ambulance)...on the other hand we did not “vote “ to build the new city building, court house , ELC* building etc. and we did “vote” (against!) the train (4 times) but all of theses multi million dollar projects have been funded with our money !

The inspector general is on the right path. Personally, I think that is a little over the top but I would like all municipal departments use a "time study" program. What that is is a person(s) who picks an individual and secretly watches them perform their daily work for a week or so. When the study is completed they move on to another subject and report to the powers that be. Although they are concentrating on the workers, the people in command will get the message also. When the public get the result of that report, they will not allow this waste of time and money to continue.
