With John McCain having now chosen Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, both veep candidates are in place, and it's time for a quick historical reminder of just important these "number 2s" can be. Since 1900, no fewer than five U.S. vice-presidents have ascended to the presidency under emergency circumstances...

-1901, Teddy Roosevelt becomes president when William McKinley is assasinated.

-1923, Calvin Coolidge becomes commander-in-chief when Warren Harding succumbs to illness.

-1945, Harry Truman becomes POTUS when Franklin Roosevelt dies in office.

1960, Lyndon Johnson becomes president when John F. Kennedy is murdered.

1974, Gerald Ford enters the Oval Office when Richard Nixon resigns in the wake of the Watergate scandal.

Now, with Joe Biden and Sarah Palin in place, the 2008 McCain-Obama debate can continue with an added question:  In the event of illness/assasination/scandal, which-if either of- these VP choices is ready to be the Leader of the Free World?

Of course, the primary question should be...Which one of these PRESIDENTIAL candidates has enough experience to lead the free world?

Like Bill Clinton said...."You can't do your job as a United States senator, AND campaign for the presidency at the same time".

How much experience on the national scene does that leave Obama?

In my opinion, If Obama is going to use the experience thing, he is treading on dangerous ground.

So in other words, this is the best ammo you have to put down the republicans? No one is going to buy this. Another typical example of media bias towards Barack Hussein Obama or whatever his real name is.

Dear Hamburgers- so the mere mention of Biden's and Palin's names- with not a word about their respective resumes or policy positions- and a reference to the history of recent VPs who are called upon to assume the presidency, is, to you, evidence of "ammo" used to "put down" the Republicans? I would suggest that your insistance upon using Sen. Obama's middle name and the phrase "or whatever his real name is," tells me all I need to know about your own objectivity. Best regards, Bruce

Bruce, good point. Let us not forget that his name is Barak Hussein Obama. Not "whatever his name is."
Although he seems to want us to forget the middle name.
