On my recent trip to KentuckyI purchased a locally crafted mountain dulcimer.
Don't know what one is? Watch this:
That ain't me playing it (fat as I am). I have learned to play "Amazing Grace" and a few other songs. It is FUN to play, that is for sure. I'm learning to play it from a book that I bought. I've contacted some folks who give lessons, as I'd like to pick up some pointers. So far no one has replied. Anyone here know of someone?
The Booth Brothers Are Back!

Yep, this Saturday at 7PM at the Fine Arts Center of Hamilton High School in Sussex, the Booth Brothers, Southern Gospel music's most rewarded act, will be performing again. They were in town a year ago and just brought the house down with awesome harmonies, high energy, and just a fun show. I think that it took two days for my hands to stop hurting from all of the clapping that I did.
Opening for the Booth Brothers is Eternity, our own local Southern Gospel quartet. If you've never liked Southern Gospel music, then this group is for you. They are into harmony and fun and they are definitely not your grandpa's version of Southern Gospel.
If you want some out of the ordinary fun this Saturday, try out this night of terrific music. You'll laugh until you cry and your teeth will hurt from vibrating to the tight, tight harmonies that both groups sing. And The Message? How can "God loves you!" be boring?

Nothing like starting a beautiful summer Saturday with some traditional bluegrass music. By traditional, I mean one microphone that the band gathers around while performing a traditional song. Ladies and gentlemen, Half Bad Bluegrass doing "Old Slew Foot" (also known as "Bear Tracks")
A friend of mine just told me about "341", a female Southern Gospel trio that does all acapella. They are from Wisconsin! Wow! You can catch their music on their web site
HERE. I'm trying to set up a concert for them at my church. I'll let you know when!

As many of you know I'm crazy about Southern Gospel quartet music.
Here is my latest favorite group: The Ball Brothers. Really contemporary, but still firmly rooted in powerful harmonies. They do a lot of a capella songs, which I really like. Remember: If your fillings don't vibrate the harmony is not tight enough!

I've listened to this song over and over lately. For some reason it really touches my heart. I even found the original video of it by the Moody Blues. Of course, guys aren't supposed to admit things like this, but that song and that video really get me choked up. Perhaps it is because I'm over 50 years old and had a rather wild, shall we say, 20's and 30's. But this song really gets to me. As I said, I play it over and over and watch the video a lot as well. Both can and have bring tears to my eyes. I ain't to proud to admit that.
Somplace in past that each of us lived is that one person that we wonder of: "Do you remember me? Do you sometimes think about me?" I can't put my finger on anyone. But I know that she is there.
A great Southern Gospel concert

Hey, next Friday night there is a terrific Southern Gospel concert in Menomonee Falls. The Booth Brothers, a big-time Southern Gospel trio from Nashville, TN, will be singing at the North Middle School auditorium. Opening for the Booth Brothers is Eternity, a terrific quartet from Germantown. Eternity has an amazing gift for tight harmonies. Both groups do a real wide variety of Southern Gospel from traditional to a capella to real up-tempo modern such as one might hear from Ernie Haase an Signature Sound. The thing that I like about Eternity, The Booth Brothers, Ernie Haase, and a lot of the newer Southern Gospel groups is that they put on a show. This isn't dreary religious music. These guys know how to have fun. You can't help but laugh and clap and have a ball. If you have had a lousy day and things aren't just going right, you can plub in some of these guy's music or go to a concert and in no time you are on a high that can last for days.
The concert info can be found here.

Eternity, Wisconsin's best Southern Gospel quartet will be performing Thursday night 3/29 at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Waukesha. The show starts at 7PM. I'd crawl over broken glass to see these guys' show. So, I'll be there. If you show up. say hi to me. I'll be wearing my "Godmen" ball cap.

I really wish that Milwaukee had a good place to hear bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music. Anyone know of a place where you can catch good bluegrass music on a regular basis?

Milwaukee used to have a place called the Blue River Cafe. I'd hang out there several times a month. Man, there was some great acoustic music performed there. Bill Camplin, Buck Stove and Range Company, Spheeris and Vodoris, James Lee Stanley, Grass Food and Lodging, are some of the groups that I saw there. A lot of times you just didn't know who would show up. The listed act would be there, but some other performers would drop in and sing as well. It was a wonderful and cozy little place. You could talk even while the performance was going on, although the music was so good that you rarely wanted to do anything but listen. One night it closed and never re-opened. I don't know why. The place was always busy. I think that it was located on Water and Wells. I could be wrong about that. I sure wish that there was another place like it.
