What's in a name?  Well some think in my last name there is fajita meat, tomatoes, onions, and sour cream.. ha ha ha... okay yes when I was growing up, many many many called me burrito.. and would say that they had my cuz for dinner enchilada.. ha ha ha  It never bothered me at all.. I love it..

But what I find real interesting is how people enjoy the way I pronounce it.. it captures peoples attention, especially little kids...

Burrriiittoo man here... many friends call me that..

Well I just got out a great 4-year relationship, well I thought It was great... But I guess she didn't... so now the question is, what to do.... I have not really gone out too much in Orlando everysince I arrived, because I spent more of my time on the phone or visiting.. lets not mention her name:  "A" from Dallas, ha ha ha... o well let me know of some fun places to hang out at, although I am a very avid movie goer... thanks...

"No es lo mismo, una coqueta vieja, que una vieja coqueta."

"No es lo mismo, la comoda de tu hermana que acomodame a tu hermana"

y los otros de los digo en persona, ja ja ja..

These are just funny latin jokes, they can't really be translated.

Okay this is not from me I took it from "candyaquino" blog, but I had this list.  And I can relate to what she wrote... it's just a way to start the weekend with humor.

"candyaquino" wrote:  (and I understand them now too)

These were introduced to me when I was a child...I can now understand its humor

Destemplanza: Mysterious body temperature, not high enough to be considered fever, but serious enough to miss school and work. Illness is unknown by the American Medical Association and understood only by doctors of Cuban origin.

Patatú:  Attack of obscure origin that can strike at any time. Could be serious enough to require hospitalization, yet is undetected by medical technology. Victims tend to be males and females over the age of 50 years.

Sirimba: Attack with similar symptoms as the Patatu's but not as serious and with shorter duration. Can be alleviated by
lying in
bed with a wash cloth soaked in alcohol on the forehead.

Sereno: Occurs when someone steps outdoors suddenly at night and is sprinkled by a mysterious substance. There are no physical symptoms and can only be detected by the Cuban
elders
. The effect of having this disease is unknown: children must not be taken out at night without proper head gear or risk of contamination is certain.

Empacho: Digestive disorder which occurs after the consumption of a large Cuban meal, (i.e. Nochebuena). The only known cure for this disease is "Sal de Fruta ENO", (Alka-Seltzer is completely ineffective).

Mollera: Soft cranial spot found on new born babies of Cuban origin. Much more sensitive than that of Americans. The slightest touch to that area can lead to irreparable brain damage.

Locura Ovarial:  (Ovarian Induced Dementia): A strange phenomena that occurs when a woman proceeds to wash her hair while menstruating. Can also strike if a woman takes a shower in the 40 days immediately following childbirth. Symptoms include inappropriate behavior requiring the sufferer to be committed. First studied at Cuba's "Mazorra Clinic for the Terminally Insane". Every Cuban family has at least one case.

Chochera: Syndrome affecting all Cuban senior citizens to different degrees. Characterized by all around bitchiness and irritating behavior. Treatment: Permanent stay at nearest nursing home.

Punzada del Guajiro:  (Brain Freeze): Sharp pain of short duration in the head occurring after a particularly cold beverage. First reported by "guajiros" (rural Cuban farmers) upon first experiencing refrigerated liquids. Although bothersome, it doesn't have long-term effects.

Cuerpo Cortado: (Cut Body): Frequent and mild condition of unknown ethnology. Symptoms include but are not limited to: Fatigue lack of energy and chronic whining.

Moño Virado: (Twisted Bonnet): Psychological imbalance of short duration that causes strange mood swings, violent irritating behavior as well as general unpleasantness. Extremely common. Can strike anyone regardless of age or sex.

Rabadilla: Skeletal region located at the end of a Cuban's spinal cord. Has absolutely no equivalent in the Gringo's anatomy.

Hi everyone.. thank you so much for your words when I announced my nomination.  Well the gala was great It was awesome to see all my former co-workers..  Well I did not get the Emmy.

I was a bit sad because I wrote, produced, and anchored this special political show, it focussed on the importance of voting and why people should vote.  It was very good, actually it was the highest rated show that day, beating CBC, NBC, TELEMUNDO AND FOX... But I at least it was nominated..   A political program on immigration and crossing the Texas border won..

I do want to congratulate all my co-workers from Dallas who did get Emmy's that night... Volga Santos, Jose Lomeli, Virgilio Avila, and Sports director Mario Montez......

Next year lets see how it goes here in Florida... once again thanks for all your well wishes...

Hi everyone... I just wanted to share with you that I was nominated for an Emmy Award.  It is for a 30-minute political show I produced, wrote, and anchored in Dallas.

This show was actually the highest rated show during that time slot beating all stations ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC... so yes I feel proud of that work.

I will be flying out tomorrow for the big gala and have to admit am excited, not so much about the award itself but to see my friends and the great people of the Metroplex community.

I will keep you informed if I get the Emmy...

Alexis...

Hola everyone, I have been back in Florida for almost a year now, and it is great to be back and part of the FOX 35 News Team. I am amazed of how many people remember me from when I was a National/International Reporter for Telemundo Network... For nine years I was assigned to New York and Puerto Rico... But what is even more interesting is that I met a woman from South Africa and a gentlemen from Russia who knew who I was. They remembered me from the Network show I was on, then I remembered it was such a popular show (a spanish dateline) it was sold to other countries, 25 to be exact and translated to their corresponding languages.. Before FOX 35, I was the main News Anchor at Univision 23 / Dallas, Texas. It was a great experience being a part of a team that became the number one news station in that market... Well I hope to hear from you, share your thoughts and ideas... SALUDOS A TODOS =)... Alexis
