Okay we had a story on Fox 35 News @  five.  Some airlines want the planes to only carry the amount of gas they need.  No more....   I find this very scary because how many times have you been on a flight that has been re-routed or had to circle an airport for a few... imagine running out of gas..

What do you think..

I do too! You should always have more in case of problems to cover the possible need that arrises! What is they were forced to circle the airport, what could they do but be forced to land! What if they get into bad weather causing stronger turbulance, that takes more gas to keep control! Morons who don't understand the effects that can be caused are making these calls and places peoples lifes at a higher risk!

Is this really the most newsworthy story of the day to be the featured blog?

...the simple answer that was ignored 8 years ago is to fix the out dated FAA , it was at the breaking point in the last days of Bill Clinton and at that time we had two choices 1 spend trillions to buy a few years more time for the old system or 2 switch to a “fly free” program . Switching would have cost a bit under 350 billion (over 4 years) and would have cut fuel consumption by as much as 50% while setting our air traffic up for another 100 years...Billy in his last 90 days in office signed the bill that authorized the expenditure of 2.4 trillion dollars to stick with the old program...this had two consequences 1st it added 1.1 trillion dollars to the first “Bush” budget and 2nd it burned hundreds of billions of gallons of jet fuel over the past 7 years .....thanks Bill !

Todd...I hope you are kidding!

The extra fuel has always been a safety issue in case something should happen to either divert the plane to a different location or a prolonged flight! To take that away is also saying lives or not as important then saving fuel is! ARE THEY NUTS!!! WHAT MORONS!

Airlines are a big scam anyhow, they overcharge us, treat us like cattle, and are very rude to their customers. I try to avoid flying..see when i drive at least my luggage stays with me and isnt "lost". I deal with NO snobby flight attendants, and I certainly dont get "delayed" for 5 hours in any kind of rush hour traffic.
And even with the high costs of fuel...its cheaper to drive.

Its a NON Story. Pilots calculate exactly what is needed. It is nuts to totally fill up a plane that wont use the fuel. Worked for USAIR in the late 80s and alllll airlines do this. I think the story was that a couple pilots got memos they didnt like.

THEY will NEVER not fuel up too low. Dont worry.

Well, I hate flying so it doesn't directly affect me, but if I did or a love one was getting on a plane, one never knows these days WHAT MAY HAPPENED????///// SO I BE AFRAID VERY AFRAID......."Attention, all passengers we regret to informed you WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND NO WHERE TO PARK, GET YOU PARACHUTES ON......AND GET ON THE PLANK........LOL......not funny but it may well happen.........GOD BLESS ALL THE RIDERS

Nice! So if there IS a weather problem, a hijacking, a mechanical malfunction or some other detour that prevents normal landing, we
should follow those old instructions,
"Put your head between your knees, and kiss your fanny, and the world as you once knew it, Bye-Bye!?" How very comforting. Now you're
gonna charge me how much extra for my carry on luggage ?

....TG , remember when pilots would dump all the excess fuel on approach to the air port as a “safety measure” ...LOL

Hola everyone, I have been back in Florida for almost a year now, and it is great to be back and part of the FOX 35 News Team. I am amazed of how many people remember me from when I was a National/International Reporter for Telemundo Network... For nine years I was assigned to New York and Puerto Rico... But what is even more interesting is that I met a woman from South Africa and a gentlemen from Russia who knew who I was. They remembered me from the Network show I was on, then I remembered it was such a popular show (a spanish dateline) it was sold to other countries, 25 to be exact and translated to their corresponding languages.. Before FOX 35, I was the main News Anchor at Univision 23 / Dallas, Texas. It was a great experience being a part of a team that became the number one news station in that market... Well I hope to hear from you, share your thoughts and ideas... SALUDOS A TODOS =)... Alexis
