Alexis, did you see my post on the bear in my friend's backyard? Do you see what I'm talking about? We have overbuilt so much, and the bears in Florida have overpopulated to the point that they have nowhere to go. They get hit on the roads, causing insurmountable damage to your vehicle. Let me tell you, when you hit a bear, even at 35mph, you will never drive it again, it's totalled! Somewhere, sometime, in the very near future someone, perhaps an innocent child will have an up close and personal encounter with a bear. It will be a horrible, irreversible outcome. Bears need to be "managed" in a controlled hunting season. I'm not talking about a massive slaughter, but a controlled hunting season, to thin them out before a human being gets killed! I belong to a club that is working with legislator's trying to do just that. We have a Web site. Take Care! P.S. You're doing a great job in the AM's!

Good Morning Amiga, I am so sorry I have not called you back, with this change in shift it has been killing me... I just wanted to call to say hi and see how you and your family are doing. Yesit is sad about the bear situation. The one here, I felt so sorry for him, he seemed so lost. Something has to be done to protect them and humans... I hit a wild hog a few weeks ago coming from Miami, it totalled the front end of my car, the worse thing it I had gotten it back from the shop three days before, because someone backed into me damaging the front end.

Oh Snap! Isn't that just the way it goes, Alexis! I hope you weren't hurt! Imagine what a 300lb bear would do to your car!!!! If you are interested, I can put you in touch with the President of our Bear Hunter's Club. We have a State Representative who is trying to get Legislation for managed bear hunting in FL, for the protection of bears, and people.

I think you should let the bear do the weather just once on air....I bet he will go away shortly after. Better yet, put Van Fleet in a bear costume to do the weather outside one morning.....maybe our bear friend is looking for a mate?

Hope you all remain safe!!

lol toddt. If the bear is looking for a mate and Jim dresses up like one, he just might be manhandled and overpowered by Boo Boo. :D

Hey, Alexis,

I heard about your encounter with the hawk! I'm glad you are okay.

Recently a hawk fell on my mother's backyard and I thought of you.

I kept on thinking ... they are so cute ... but as we now know, they are dangerous too!!

Candy, I probably shouldn't even reply to your antagonistic, ignorant, asinine remark, but I'm going to anyway. You can't kill a bear with a .22 caliber rifle. If you were to shoot one with a .22 caliber rifle, you would be very, very sorry, because it would only infuriate it, and the bear would probably kill you. You would need, at the very least, a Smith & Wesson .44 caliber, to do the job effectively, and your aim to his brain had better be perfect. It will probably take more than one shot, anyway. Oh, BTW, bear hunting in Florida is illegal, and will get you 5 years in a Federal Prison, and a $5000.00 fine.

I used to be a volunteer tracker for Search and Rescue in Washington State. I came across more than one bear track and I know that generally they would rather stay away from humans if given the chance.

If you were going to hunt bear, you would want to use a 30.06 win, 300 win or 7mm at least. Anything smaller is just going to make the bear really, really mad. Mad bears are not a good thing.

In Alaska, at the gold mines and refineries, they require any workers outside the permiter of the camp to carry .44 caliber pistols because of the Brown Bear and Polar Bear present.

I say don't shoot it, hose your trash down with some pepper spray every night for a week and the bear will associate it with the smell and steer away from it. You can also try peeing in your trash that has been known to make bears not come around too. I know, gross but it works for some reason.

Whatever you do, DO NOT put your Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in the garbage! They dearly love them!

Hola everyone, I have been back in Florida for almost a year now, and it is great to be back and part of the FOX 35 News Team. I am amazed of how many people remember me from when I was a National/International Reporter for Telemundo Network... For nine years I was assigned to New York and Puerto Rico... But what is even more interesting is that I met a woman from South Africa and a gentlemen from Russia who knew who I was. They remembered me from the Network show I was on, then I remembered it was such a popular show (a spanish dateline) it was sold to other countries, 25 to be exact and translated to their corresponding languages.. Before FOX 35, I was the main News Anchor at Univision 23 / Dallas, Texas. It was a great experience being a part of a team that became the number one news station in that market... Well I hope to hear from you, share your thoughts and ideas... SALUDOS A TODOS =)... Alexis
