Ok so we are sure to be bombarded by those on the left that have been sitting like vultures in the branches waiting for something to come by to chew on.  Now we are going to get a ton of reports from the LEFT about how this is a failure of the Bush administration.  So its time that instead of simply reporting the news, to actually ask WHY unemployment numbers are as bad as they are at this point.  To actually look, we will see that auto makers are taking a HUGE hit.  Why?  What is it that keeps us from the bread and butter in the past for the industry (SUVs and Trucks)  FUEL PRICES!

The ridiculous sky is falling... we will all be dead in less than a decade, enviromental crackpots have this nation so tied up in knots, we are in a full panic!  Enviromental nuts got an unrestricted free ride for many years because being kind to mother earth didn't have any direct impact on citizens.  But now that we have over 50 blends of gasoline, a population that has increased drivers and cars but not refinery capacity, fallen for every Global Warming fact that today are being debunked faster than they can come up with new ones, and we legislated a corn based fuel supplement (ethanol) that take more energy and expense to make, and burns faster than gas!

Democrats promised us in 2006 they were going to lower gas prices and they were only $2.50 per gal. then.  Now elected on that promise, the response from Democrats is they are sad that prices went up as fast as they did, that everyone took notice. (Obama)  So now, prices have over 70% of America demanding answers, and the Speaker who promised lower prices, now refuses to allow bills to the floor for a vote, and continues to tell us she intends on saving the planet?  Really?  Didn't hear that as part of you job OR a remember you telling us that America was going to pay for saving the planet all on our own!  I thought unilateral work was a bad thing...

Either way... The unemployment issue is a direct result of America sitting on its hands, not being proactive in this nation's energy needs because special interests (enviromentalist like Kennedys, Gore, etc) are in bed together, INSTEAD of working for us!

Yea your right, who needs them polar bears anyways, and as far as that gasoline talk, hell we need to go back to good old leaded gas, with that you didn't need all that smog stuff on your car.
And them inviromentalists are a real pain, what are they talking about CO2 thats just air, that is good for you, right!
Think about it, the earth has been around for a couple a few hundred years and its still here so just leave it alone and it will be fine.

To me the real big issue on the economy is we are spending more than we bring in. Look at our Kyoto neighbor to the north still doing way better than us and that has been unheard of, they usually follow suit. The only difference is they are more focused on paying the deficit and the debt that what we are.

Want to know who is doing well... Russia was on the scrap heap after Reagan drove them into the ground in the late 80s. While we decided to celebrate the cold war over, and ignore the fact that the 800 lb Gorilla was still there, Russia decided to try again, this time they put their efforts behind energy independence first, THEN once stable, have gone into their second phase and thats the good ole military machine again. THIS time they have never ending revenue, and we are stuck with a bunch of old hippies in Washington, who resist any regulation into their financial operations, and now we have literally turned the tables on the entire cold war!

Here comes the excuse for not cutting taxes again like Clinton did after his promises made in 92!

Fine.. The deficit this time goes to former Clinton team who are now elbows deep in Fannie and Freddie, old Democrats that fillabustered and blocked ALL attempts at regulation of their little financial playground! If we are about to go a TRILLION in debt, then its time to throw out the Barney Franks, Schumers, Conners, Dodds, Jamie Gorelicks, etc!

Farm subsidies GONE! Redundant programs Fed and State.. GONE! Earmarks GONE! Private accounts NOW! Drill NOW.. Nuke NOW... Throw all the enviromental hippies out NOW.. unless they can actually PROVE the planet is dying at mankind's hand!

You libs complain about unemployment being up to a whopping 6% but that is NOTHING compared to what Democrats and their lobbiest friends for former administrations like Clintons have put us into!! Wasn't good enough to strip the military down to nothing in the 90s, once done there the entire Clinton administration has been bankrupting the ENTIRE nation with their antics in the bank/mortgage industry!

I didnt say that the unemployment rate bugged me or I didnt want tax cuts ;). Just don't think environmental issue are the root cause. And I do believe getting rid of government waste is a good first step.

Ironically Nukes and exploring and drilling NG is more environmentally friendly emissions wise than what we have now. But then again I guess a little bit isn't better than none.

Gee and here I am thinking that jobs
are disappearing because the GREEDY
CEO's in this country are sending all
the work overseas. How ignorant of me!

It's all about greed in this country nowadays but, that's an adverse side effect to a free
market society. NOBODY needs to make
an eight figure salary for sitting
on their a$$es and "making decisions"!

And it's NOT about staying competitive, it's about retaining those salaries because they'll
be damned if they are going to waste
their Ivy League educations that mommy
and daddy paid for for a meager "six
figure" pittance!

Oh, and let's not forget about the greedy
UNIONS that make it difficult to get
our foot in the door of a decent job!

As far as American automakers are concerned,
I wouldn't mind seeing Toyota buy out
Ford and Chrysler and dissolve those companies
out of existence as they have no passion
(or skill) for building automobiles, as
long as they make 'em pretty.

Smitty, never fear, the U.S automakers are doing much of the same thing that they did in the late seventies with the other "gas shortage."

They are going to quickly find a way to raise prices on the small cars in order to recoup the profits from the trucks and larger gas guzzlers. I don't know where they think that the people making $10 per hour are going to get the money to buy them.

With the auto makers in India, etc. just waiting for an opportunity, the U.S. automakers are placing another nail in their coffin. And next time, the buy American slogan won't work at all.

Very true Shadows!

Not that I'm disagreeing with Abu but,
I believe in what I see and smell and
it kinda stinks that it takes so
long (if at all) for prices to drop
on products when gas prices drop.

I mean c'mon, we are not at $4.00 a gallon
anymore so I find it funny that
while companies are paying less for transportation, everything
else remains unaffected.

It seems the mentality is, "Hey, they've been paying for it at this price for this long so let's just keep charging them the same price while improving our profit margin."
Just an observation but, I'm willing to learn.

I totally agree though that the unemployment
rate is a direct result of rising fuel prices
but, at the same rate, what's the excuse
now? Enter the speculators! Here to kill
the party! Pricks!
