Russia now illeged to be making plans to put offensive bombers and missiles in Cuba in response to American defensive missiles in Poland and Chek region.   Ah yes!  The good ole days of the 60s all over again!  Lets also put Hugo Chavez into the picture now as he is arming up his (as Obama would put it) little country as well.  So now with Russians power, on Cuban soil and friends to the south, we have a powder keg issue right in our back yard again!  Better start looking at this election REAL close folks!  Democrats in the 90s took our military and defense down to almost half, and the liberals have made sure the entire planet understands that we struggle to even effect deterence in two regions at the same time.  We also have let the world know that we have oil here larger than anything the middle east can get, and just sitting on it!  Russia is already tapping it just 30 miles off of Florida, and the Chinese are about to join them!

Call me an alarmist all you like, but then you tell me if we are in a "healthy" position right now.....

"After completing 20 planes for which we have begun procurement, we will shut down further production of the B-2 bomber. We will cancel the small ICBM program. We will cease production of new warheads for our sea-based ballistic missiles. We will stop all new production of the Peacekeeper [MX] missile. And we will not purchase any more advanced cruise missiles. … The reductions I have approved will save us an additional $50 billion over the next five years. By 1997 we will have cut defense by 30 percent since I took office."
The speaker was President George H.W. Bush, on Jan. 28, 1992.

Cheney, three days later, boasting of similar slashings before the Senate Armed Services Committee:
Overall, since I've been Secretary, we will have taken the five-year defense program down by well over $300 billion. That's the peace dividend. … And now we're adding to that another $50 billion … of so-called peace dividend.
Cheney proceeded to lay into the then-Democratically controlled Congress for refusing to cut more weapons systems.

All good history DEOP. Take it further back to the latter 80s when the Democrat lead Congress actually passed the plan to reduce the military long before Bush 1 was even in office. The plan was a drawdown for post cold war build up. During that time I was actually operating with Mobile Sea Base (MSB) Hercules in the Gulf and Windbrown (the other barge) was almost gone. Iran/Iraq was in full swing.

Then we left.. We warned Saudi and Kuwait that if we left it would get ugly. 5 months later Desert Shield began. Bush 1 was President, and the drawdown had to be stopped as we took everything we still had over to the middle east. The UN supported Liberation ONLY, and thats what we did. UN Resolutions between Sadaam and Coalition Forces set the cease-fire up after 100 hours of straight pounding.

Bush 1 is gone, Clinton steps in, and by 93 Iraq was breeching resolutions, and firing on forces in the no-fly-zone, and making a mockery of weapons inspectors. But the 1997 drawdown was NOT stopped to answer the call, and Clinton carved 140 Billion a year out of DoD budget by 97 and ran us into the ground.

For more insight.. google Operation Earnest Will (tanker escorting) or Praying Mantis.

The point is, Bush 1 upon agressive action from Iraq, stopped the drawdown and took action. Clinton however REFUSED to answer the call, or uphold the US responsibilities of the cease-fire agreement. Instead he used the military for expansionism at an even larger capacity than Bush 1 did around the world, but continued to undercut the budget and assets and divert the money to his own interests! Literally ran the military into the ground at almost half price, and did so by hand picking Pentagon leadership that went along with it! Guys like Adm Boorda, and Gen. Wesley Clark who watched Kurds in the Gulf slaughtered, and Uwanda crushed!

WHY is anybody,, ANYBODY at ALL,, bringing up Bush 1 when THIS post ONLY mentions the Democrats during the 90s..

I thought that certain people said that you couldn't DO such things when Clinton's name came up during a GWB Bash.....

WOW! Guess an explanation is necessary.

See, the original post said "Democrats in the 90s took our military and defense down to almost half,". I was simply pointing out that there also were Republicans who were more than happy to cut the military in the 90's.

WELL IF OBAMA IS ELECTED WE WON'T HAVE ANY MILITARY, HE WANTS TO CUT ALL MILITARY SPENDING TO FORM A NATIONAL POLICE FORCE. HIS PLAN IS TO GET RID OF THE MILITARY AS WE NO IT ALONG WITH THE FBI, CIA, ETC.
HE ALL SO WANTS TO CUT OUT THE SPACE PROGRAM AND FUNDING.
I BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS IN HIS WRITTEN PLANS FOR AMERICA.
HE ALL SO WANTS TO GIVE THE U.N. MORE CONTROLL OVER THE U.S.

LOL! Other than Cuba, the other players here are building up beyond what has been around for decades.

Silver Fox makes a good point that seems to go over most folks heads. Obama wants to repeat the Clinton days of stripping the military spending, and taking that money and turning America into a European socialist state! Since taxes won't be enough, he will have to cut DoD, NASA, and alot of other programs to get that revenue. Karl Marx would be quite proud of Obama's efforts!

Lets not forget he already snuck past a bill for Global Poverty to pass out .7% (Hundreds of Billions in taxpayer dollars) to poor nations up to 2015.. (IOWs warlords and dictators who are starving their people...)

Meanwhile Russia, Cuba, China, Chavez, etc smell blood in the water....

While I defend this Administration many times over ANY thing Kerry, Gore or Obama would do to this country if elected, but this Whitehouse amazes me at times. They are hands off many things. One is the Russian alliance. When they became more free with the destruction of the Soviet Union, Clinton and Bush should have had high level "helpers" in Moscow 24-7.

To have Russian President saying he is upset at our Missile Defence in Poland and Czech Rep and threats to aim missiles at Europe... should not be in play.

If Russia is our Friend, that Clinton and Bush claimed then they better act it.

I havent seen too many things that they are our friends since Putin took office. Helping Iraq and Iran, Venezuala, flying bombers again, etc. I would be there yesterday if I were President. (and dont expect any change with the 2 up coming.)

what does it really matter if we are a nation that respects sovereignty and freedoms of others so much. Or is it we rather dictate to others? More power to them, we just need to protect ourselves more then..

dks75.. its not that we dictate others its that the others are offering themselves to be dictated to, and that void left unfilled will become a Chinese, Russian, or Iranian problem. Prevention is far cheaper than a cure! We didn't make the world as it operates, and the results of just checking out of all these other regions around the world have always ended up with our enemies attacking us here at home. Isolation is not the answer when we are the only country in the world to offer ourselves to all.
