Over the past few years since I've been fully engaged in the workforce, I have noticed employers soliciting charity contributions to the United Way. Each company seems to establish a goal for the total amount donated by all of their employees. I saw this when I was in retail during college and now see it at my full-time job. My wife was recently sent a solicitation to contribute to the United Way from her employer.

I don't have much of a problem with the whole United Way thing, if my company didn't beat on it so much. What about other charities? I usually donate to charities affecting those who are close to me such as MS, Loopus and Leukemia. I don't have the money to donate to the United Way.

You should work for my company. Every month there is something to donate for - money for a particular disease research - a teddy bear - school supplies and backpacks for kids going back to school - "choosing" a child to buy a gift for at Christmas - donations to send underprivileged kids to camp - cans of food for food pantries - blood drives - etc., etc.....

If you are only being hit up to contribute to the United Way - oh, did I mention right now there is a United Way campaign going on at my employers? You are lucky!

Personally, i donate to homeless shelters near me. Give only to what is nearer to your heart.
No need to feel guilty for that. Nice point.

I am a secular athiest, residing in Milwaukee hoping to see more diversity within this city. I am frusterated with our country's domestic and foreign policies and ashamed to be an American. I enjoy blogging because it gives me a chance to voice for those who are poor and less fortunate than the supposed affluent in this city.
