I am glad to see that 3 of the 4 were found guilty. But guanentee you 4 out of the 4 are racists. Not only was the beating by the off duty officers, but by local jurors who just happened to be all white.

But what might disappoint us is the sentence which they receive. This guilty verdict is only as good as it's punishment. These officers beat up a biracial man for christ's sake. I hope a hate crime is tacked on to the sentence, therefore extending the length of time they do.

"These officers beat up a biracial man for christ's sake."

mmm, I don't think Jesus needs anyone to beat up another person. He took enough beating on himself to save us. As a matter of fact, I think he would have been saddened by this whole thing.

People need to get over this black vs. white crap. I'm so sick of it. All I saw was a guy who got beat up for no reason, just because some dirty cops were drunk and racist. Sure, Jude is no angel himself, but that was beside the point. I was so afraid they'd get off, and I'm disappointed that the one guy did. Will he go back to work with the MPD? I think he should resign. He was just as guilty as the others if he just stood there and did nothing. How can he sleep at night? I wonder! I also think all these guys should give back the pay they received while not working.

And, by the way, I'm white. I feel that everyone is due justice, no matter what color they are. Simple as that.

I too am sick of the racial lines, but we cannot just ignore them when our own police are bullying a man because of who he is.

AJSB-
Your fwwlings toward this case would be very different had he not been bi-racial. If he were some white guy with bruises laying in a hospital bed for the same beating, I can only imagine the words you would be blogging.

AJSB, I was on an all white jury and mainly women. We found a black man, not guilty for spouse abuse. We went on the facts presented (not a very good job by the way) and wanted to convict the guy just because his lawyer was a complete jerk (just a juror joke).

Two ladies felt that he was guilty. I stressed that we were were given the instructions of "unreasonable doubt" and because the guy got on the stand and said " I would never shoot at the mother of my children", we found him not-guilty.

No race issue there.. but you don't always hear about those stories. Not everyone is about race.

Jive, this was a giant leap compared to the joke of a state trial. This trial came closer than I even imagined to bringing a fair verdict. It also paved the way for the civil suit by exposing facts that weren't presented at the state level. I believe it's far from over and that there will be more to come as far as Jude receiving compensation for what he's gone through.

I'm not sure if you were referring to the first trial or second in your first paragraph, but in the federal trial there was one African American person on the jury. Also, have you ever heard of a case involving the MPD beating of James Shoemperlen? Seven police officers in that case were fired only to have 5 of them hired back onto the force. Injustice doesn't come in a color.

No one should be beaten by cops. I was referring to the state trial (#1) of an all white jury. Not all jurys that are all white are going to be biased. But I don't see how anyone in their right minds can let those officers off. Other officers should be angry as well because these Jude beatings only divide the MPD and black community. Not all officers would do such a thing.

A badge can be replaced. What a sorry reason for a beating.

AJSB, as I was trying to explain, you have to be a jury and judge on "unreasonable doubt" so unless the prosecuting attorney presents the case well (which in my case he did not) you are not going to find someone guilty with unreasonable doubt. So if they are not-guilty, then the prosecution did not do their job.

Don't be mad at the jury.
