That was the most biased report I've seen on local news in some time. Was Nicholas even wearing a helmet??????

He wasn't in the picture that you showed on the news and if he wasn't during the accident he should've been more cautious. I'm not saying he deserved to die, because no one does. However, I'm very suspicious of the report put out there for the benefit of a police chief. One has to believe that this story would've never aired had the "victim" not been the son of a local police chief.

Also rediculous is the introduction of the story, Thomas is advertised as smoking pot and sleeping til noon -like Marvel Thomas really said that in an interview, while Nicholas is an MATC standout. This was bad journalism at it's worst.

To clear up any misunderstandings, I feel sorry for Nicholas, but I find this story is very vendictive and 1 sided. Maybe the finger should be pointed at Nicholas if a helmet was not worn!???

The law does not require helmets, but it does require drivers licenses.

The story was not done "for the benefit of a police chief." It was done for the benefit of everyone who drives a car legally and safely.

Marvell Thomas actually did say in an interview that he smoked pot and slept past noon. It's just that the interview was with a police officer, not me. So, the description was accurate and verifiable.

In most other states, Thomas would have gone to jail. In Wisconsin, he got $179 in fines - and he didn't bother to pay even that?

Jive, between you and me, who is basing their arguments in fact and who is relying on bias?

Helmets might protect the coconut, but the rest is very vunerable. Body vs auto usually results in auto winning big time!

As a motorcycle rider who doesn't always wear his helmet (thank God my mom doesn't blog) I have to say, what's your point? Jazzbode was right, the body blows can be lethal.

I don't understand how you ignore the fact that the driver of the car ran a stop sign and didn't have a license but you blame the person who died for not wearing a helmet that would not necessarily have saved his life.

I'd hate to think of what you'd say if someone who was suppose to be in prison committed a sexual assault. Would you then comment on what the victim was wearing because under your logic, it would surely be her fault.

I can not even beleive what I am reading. Why does it matter if he had a helmet on or not? That was a gut wrenching story? What if it were your child? The bottom line is he, like many young men in our city are driving around with out licenses. The big difference is he killed someone. What if he was wearing a helmet? He is still dead. The penalty was a joke and the young man is still driving. Would you feel different if both parties were white or if both were black? Or would you see it different if the victim was black and the driver was a white person from the brubs? A life was lost needlessly!!! He was wrong, the price he paid should have been higher and he should not be driving until he has his license. It is that simple.

Jive, I can feel the sympathy pouring out...NOT.... from you of course!!!!!I guess it's ok to drive without a license, kill someone, not pay your fines and continue to drive illegally. As Nicholas' father said "It is a slap in the face" and I agree! Even though Thomas eventually said he was sorry for what happened to the "dude" (such respect)..yeah right, it was one of the wimpiest apologies I've ever seen. As for your post, it's absurd!

The points here are quite correct, this D#$t B*g did not have a lic, he has never had one, has shown habitual criminal behavior, (is such a productive member of society), a lay about dopper, He would be singing a different song if he had to stand over the casket of his own child, provideing that he ever knows who his children are. It was glowingly apparent in every segment of the interview that he did not give a hoot what he was being asked to face up to. and like so many of these wastes of good human skin, really does not care in the least what he did.
The point is well made, that Jazz would be singing a differant song if it had been a white driver and a black kid killed on the cycle. OMG we would have Jackson and sharpton here protesting on the Mayors door step to have the person hauld out and beaten in public. Because the same outcome would have been a HUGE racial issue that the driver was not held to any accountability.
The state laws are quite a joke, and the few petty changes that have been made are an even greater joke. It's like saying to the families that grieve over these loses every day (Oh OK here will slap them on the wrist just a bit harder - there do you feel better) Michigan has it right Long prison time that most assuedly keeps unlicensed drives from getting behind the wheel.

I just think that when riding a motorcycle, you're much more vulnerable, especially without a helmet. Thomas had a traffic accident and driving without a license. Those are the 2 offenses. And you all want him put away as a murderer. The accident is unfortunate; if Nicholas hadn't died you all wouldn't mind the fine and if he wasn't a police chief's son, you wouldn't have reported this. If Nicholas was in a car wearing a seat bealt he would be alive! Big time biased reporting Bryan.

OK, first off AJSB, the helmet may or may not have made a difference, haven't you ever heard of INTERNAL BLEEDING???? And in some cases, Like car and motorcycle accidents that the internal bleeding is so bad that no matter how long the doctors work on the patient they still die. If the guy wasn't driving his car and obeying the law the person on the motorcycle might still be here today!

No where was it mentioned that the driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and they were seen driving exessively fast. That is what I'm trying to make everyone aware of. But you all are a bunch of sheepish robots.
