There's been a great deal of talk and excitement about this year could possibly  produce the first Black or First Female to ever be President of the United States. We've come along way,but have we really? I started to get a little curious and wondered just how far we really have come. Would you vote for a Gay or Lesbian Commander in Chief? is America ready for something like that? Would you be willing ? Does it matter?

It wouldn't matter to me as long as they were openly gay. That way the chances of blackmail are a lot less.

As long as that person is capable of working for all of us I have no problem w/race, gender or sexuality.

Would you vote for a Gay or Lesbian Commander in Chief?

If it was For_The_People or DEOP running, the answer would be an unequivocal "NO"! However, I would not necessarily let sexual orientation of a qualified individual factor into the equation.

I don't think that it's ever going to happen, however.

What makes you assume that we haven't already had a gay or bisexual president? Don't ask, don't tell has been a government policy for more than most seem to realize.

George Bush isn't gay enough for you?
We don't have a woman or black president yet.

I for one would rather not know because that would always be on my mind every time I hear their name. Right shadows, don't ask, don't tell. It would probably be better for everyone if they kept it in the closet. But as we all know it would eventually come out. I don't want to know what kind of sex my commender and chief has. Being president of the United States of America is not a soap opera.

I'm pretty sure we've already had a Gay President before, but not open.

Well then I guess we couldn't get all upset when something like the Foley case with sexual texting and email to a page gets exposed by a party that gave Studs who had actual homosexual sex with a page a pass after senturing them. We have openly gay leaders now who get caught running gay brothels out of their D.C. appartments with their boyfriends.(Barney Franks)

Don't forget Janet Reno in the Clinton administration who upon entering her position had the gay and lezbian community begging her to come out of the closet publically for no reason other than a childish sticking out the tongue at America.

Sexual preference should have nothing to do with ability to hold office or position.

Abunai,I find it interesting you would compare Gay & Lesbian with Pedophile behavior and prostitution, and lump them all together.
When they are not synonymous.

We had a president that wasn't married. So he must have been gay. J. Edgar H was gay and he did a great job. Probably decorated his office real nice.

"Senturing" them? What does that mean, Abunai? That word isn't in the English dictionary.

Promiscuity and infidelity aren't synonymous with homosexuality, as Gingrich, Giuliani and Vetter, among the current Republican sex scandals, show.

Sexual orientation has nothing to do with being able to perform in public service. Intelligence, integrity, honesty, decisiveness and respect for the Constitution and the law do -- and there's been a glaring dearth of those requisites among the "decent, God-fearing" heterosexuals running our body politic the past seven years.

I am sure in history there must have been "closet gays". I have no problem voting for a person based on their qualifications. However, many religious people, who are not "Finatics" are going to have a problem voting for such a person because their personl choice will conflict with their Christian ethics.. It's hard for people to separate the two...

I also bring up the point and example of "Susie Stanton" He/She, was definately qualified for the job of city manager. However, because of the issues surrounding Her/Him, it became a side show!!!!! I just think we have enough clowns and side shows in Washington. President, is a serious job and I don't think there is enough time for the circus to be in town... Because of that, I would not be willing to vote for a gay person at this time.

Dearest August; I know that but my sentences must have been too close together. Hey, help out there. Who was the single president? An old pres like Coolidge, I can't remember. My point with J. Edgar was that he sucessfully hid his queenness without controversy. The FBI headquarters are still called the J.Edgar Hoover building right?

"Abunai,I find it interesting you would compare Gay & Lesbian with Pedophile behavior and prostitution, and lump them all together.

Exactly where is Pedophile behavior referenced? But since you brought it up: Pedophilia is a cultural moral line, and can be hetrosexual or homosexual...

If you are refering to the pages in either story, their ages were of concenting limits for a matter of fact.

But as far as the topic goes.. the point is you already have them in the legislature out in the open. Executive Branch or Judicial make up the other 3 legs if you will. Who really cares. It makes as much sense as people trying to make Romney's mormon religion an aspect and forgetting that the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is mormon and been re-elected 3 times and on his way to his 4th in 2012.
I think worrying about such things only distracts from what we should be focused on in the selection of our leaders. Too many people dont take it anymore serious than voting for someone in a reality show.

To me it doesn't matter if they are black, white, gay, heterosexual, male or female.

If they can do the job, then they should have the job. But to vote for a candidate just because they are a woman, gay or black is just stupid! Stupid people shouldn't be allowed to vote!

Why would that matter, if they can do the job, its none of my business what they do behind closed doors..Just don't pull a Clinton and run on FAMILY VALUES and then CHEAT and LIE about it while in OFFICE> I can deal with most things, but Lieing, Cheatting and then thinking is OK.. He was a great EXAMPLE for the KIDS....

Do any of you feel America is ready for something like this happening in the near future?
