ok guys, here's the scoop.  I was in Walmart the other day with my three year old son when the guy in front of us dropped the F bomb a few times while talking to his buddy.  My son, of course, picked this up. Now I can't get him to stop saying it!!  Any suggestions?

Oh, this is fun. One thing you could do is every time he says the word. Say no honey, it's truck. Keep saying truck. Then say fire truck, get his mind on another word. If he continues, say no you must not say this, or just give up. The more attention given, positive or negative, will only cause him to say it more.

See, my mom said to try to correct him only once or twice, then to ignore it. But geez, we'll be out in pulic and he'll say, "F that!" (This is what this dude said several times) or else he'll say, "Can we get some F-ing ice cream?" Old people give me the dirtiest looks!! LOL

I would try like Gammies said using another word to throw him off but if that doesn't work I would just tell him that is a dirty word and your not going to be allowed to play or whatever you use to punish him and let him know he can't say that anymore.

My son said that word in place of truck. He loved big trucks and would yell that out the window of the car everytime he saw one. So being that I knew what he meant to say, I couldn't really punish him except to try to get him to pronounce the word truck correctly.

All in all toddlers are cute that's for sure....lol. It will pass in time.

Carry a jar of peanut butter in your purse with you and before you enter any public place of bussiness place a big wad of that in his mouth. That should keep his tounge tied for a while. LOL Cancel all deserts if he continues to us that word, he'll learn fast enough.

80's MetalHead,
I'd say this will pass just like it did with my little girl. Everyone in my little girls family cussed. We use to go to church and her favorite saying at 5 yaers old was Holy SH..

Imagine my horror..with that one. When I would scold her about it she would say daddy and so and so say it. I tried to use the old cliche...adults say and do things all the time they are not suppose to, but it's still wrong. Her response was always like that of a good laywer. When I stopped stressing she stopped saying it.

Try placing it in his head that he miss pronounced the word and give him one that sounds like it and the way he is pronouncing it, it isn't a word! Of course he will learn better later in life! LOL Work with the words that sound almost the same and you keep saying. Young children can get diverted easily with their big attention span. Good luck, you'll need it! LOL Been there

I LOVE Meb's idea! On the other hand, that could cause him to grow up to hate a truly nutritious food! He's old enough to understand what a spankin' is if he doesn't stop saying it though, if you believe in that. My youngest daughter went through that for a time, she picked up some wonderful words from HER FATHER, a DEPUTY SHERIFF! She once told another Deputy, for no reason at all, "You're a f-ing dirtbag!" She was three, and knew EXACTLY what she was saying, and she DID get her fanny whupped, right there in Sonny's!

80's metal head...I am with Gammies on this one at 3 they are too young to know and yes, if you already explained no no bad word..and the child continues..then the next best thing is too deterred him with words that sound alike..and its fun like Gammies said...kids are just way too smart these days. Anyone here remembers back in 70's and 80's babies were born with their eyes closed..as the late 80 and 90's approached it was like a BIG SHOW DOWN when a newborn came right out looking at ya.....LMAOFF... Shame those idiots didn't the common sense to see there was a child in their presence...YES, I DO CURSE...but if I am around kids definately DON'T DO IT...

I found with my two 3 year old only repeat bad words I react to. my son was pushing his cars into the table saying the sh poopy word. We didnt even give him the time of day and it ended right then. It seems the more you give them a reaction over a word the more they say it.

If it portrays a sexual context have them charged with lewd and lascivious behavior around a minor.. Then they have to carry that perv tag around for life :)

LOL well, I've been ignoring the little F bombs and so far it doesn't seem like he's ready to give up on it. My in-laws are coming for a visit next month... their English is awful but I guarantee they'll pick up on this. LOL
